You know the saying….. if it bleeds it leads
Well I for one definitely want those 11 bad apples deported.
Unfortunately for progressive dems.. the backlash to this is they want 170,000 bad apples deported.

While I agree they should be deported (and they will be), do you agree that the NYPD officers who instigated the altercation and then lied about it should be terminated for misconduct?Well I for one definitely want those 11 bad apples deported.

Yes, people who want to reinstate cash bail most likely either have no idea what bail is or are deliberately misrepresenting the issue.Again, bail is not for punishment, it is to ensure someone shows up at their court date.

The fundamental idea of cash bail is that we should imprison people before trial based on how wealthy they are, not based on their danger to the community. If people want to expand the list of crimes for which bail will not be granted then by all means argue for that and provide the resources to massively expand pretrial detention facilities.
There is no distinction as to bail requirements for this sort of crime between US citizens and migrants and that's a very good thing. You are seemingly trying to defend bail for Americans.
This issue is about migrants.
Not sure what one has to do with the other. My wife frequently interacts with recent migrants and they are in fact desperately poor. As for bail a quick calculation says he needed to come up with about $1,200, which seems pretty doable to me. Why would you think it's not?And the argument against yours is that migrants who commit shoplifting, beat up police officers are supposedly the same ones who need free meals and free hotels!
Yet somehow they can make $15,000 bail?
Then you're arguing against bail as a concept, which means we are going to need to dramatically raise your taxes to deal with the surge of pre-trial confinement. Are you ok with that? And what're the bets on if he flees and doesn't make the court date? I'll put a dime on it right now!
I simply cannot wait until Rikers is taken over by the feds so they can disband the correction officers' union. I think there is no management, anywhere that can make Rikers work without first getting rid of the union. Closing Rikers makes no sense as the problem isn't the facility, like it's not haunted, the problem is the employees and union contracts that make effective changes impossible. NYC spends nearly 400% more than the next most expensive jail in the country.People who think NYC should hold way more people facing charges should have to go spend a night in Rikers, which is on the verge of being taken over by the Feds because it is so horrifically mismanaged.
If NYC let more hotels be built (and everywhere else just let more housing be built), we wouldn't be in such a rut.If we all had hotels that could get government contracts to house them, we'd be making out like bandits too!
It was net fiscal impact on government finances. Meaning governments made more from them than they spent. If we all had hotels that could get government contracts to house them, we'd be making out like bandits too!

People having places to live >>> aesthetics. But brownstones..
The solution to the problem does exist, more so in Queens. Queens is known to have (either first or second place in terms of county, do not remember,) to have the most acres of cemetery land in New York State. Its just a mater of shifting the Graves to LI or else where and building buildings on where the cemetery was. The problem is with the family members of the deceased. If NYC let more hotels be built (and everywhere else just let more housing be built), we wouldn't be in such a rut.

Calm down there Adolph.Gotta think like Stephen Miller! The real solution is to make fertilizer out of these migrants. Benefits our farmers and we don't have to spend money on deportation or food or housing!
Oh and here's how the Mayor's re-election chances die..
With thunderous applause!
apparently the migrant crime wave is basically racist right wing fearmongering. oh and DINO republican, Eric Adams, who woulda thunk it?
Gifted article.

‘Migrant Crime Wave’ Not Supported by Data, Despite High-Profile Cases
Several well-publicized acts of violence by migrants in New York have unsettled some city leaders, but police statistics do not point toward a surge in crime.www.nytimes.com
Man do you really, REALLY hate immigrants. NYC is probably not a good place for you.Migrants doing a pretty good job of pissing off our base without any right wing propaganda.. and you know fox etc will jump on it!

Broken windows was not effective as the research shows. Also, neither Dinkins nor Giuliani really did anything to clean up New York - the city just followed the nationwide decline in crime.I hate losing elections more especially to traitors!
NYC's been fine mostly since 1989 when Dinkins was mayor.
Funny thing he appointed Bratton who instituted broken windows and crime came down.. but guess who got credit? Giulliani! And Giulliani won 2 elections even though Dinkins did most of the clean up.
That's something about New York most people don't understand or just gloss over.. we're democrats but perception and feeling safe > facts for most New Yorkers!
Oh and Rudy's guys stuck a plunger up a migrants ass if you remember and he was still looked upon fondly and remembered as a good mayor till he hooked up with Trump!
I think the led poisoning hypothesis is a pretty good one too.The economic boom in the 90s, which was especially strong in NYC, powered the vast decline in crime.
