Malak, you are seriously misinformed about cars. Weren't you the one saying that G35s are Skylines earlier?

It was designed and built in Australia, which means its Australian. They had them there long before we got the GTO here.

I don't care, I like to make people get upset over stupid things. Cars is such a hot topic in OT, turns the place into P&N jr.

No one is getting upset, the problem is a lot of people around here like to talk about things they know nothing about.

and alot of people know quite a lot about cars as well.

Japanese cars aren't 'muscle' cars, because they don't try to be. completely different design philosophy. and the word 'muscle' is pretty cheesy.

American cars are designed to go as quickly as possible in a single direction. Japanese cars are designed to do the same, except they can also make turns. European cars are designed to do all of the above, while being fuel efficient.

Why did you link to an Australian car as American Muscle?

If I linked to the American version of the Skyline, would it be an American car? The cars in Australia are our cars, they are imports to them 😛 That's a Pontiac GTO btw.

They are BUILT IN AUSTRALIA AND IMPORTED TO THE US.

Stop posting in car threads.

NUH UH

your a fvck wit...the Monaro was DESIGNED AND BUILT BY GMH(HOLDEN) which is an AUSTRALIAN automotive company....it was then imported to the US had it's styling fvcked up by Pontiac and the sold to the US as the GTO, we had the monaro as far back as 2001.

We haven't imported GM or Fords fromthe US since the 60's since they don't sell well here..umm something to do with the piss poor build quality of american cars.

the engines we use in the Monaro, especially the HSV variants are more powerful than the US spec LS1

The 05 GTO comes with a LS2. Not that I am arguing that the GTO isn't a rebadged/reworked Holden Monaro, but it does comes with a LS2.

I personally love the new GTO, whether it is Australian or not.

You need to give Aussies a little more credit.

The Monaro beat a bunch of 911s and a Ferrari at Bathurst. Then it became a GTO. 😛

just a pity that the Monaro that raced at the bathurst 24 had nothing in common with the road going variants...it used a 7.0litre not the 5.7litre

Learned something new today. This was in 2002 right?

I'm looking it up right now... seems like there was a lot of debate on whether that 427 should/shouldn't be in there since high end supercars were having a pretty hard time with it.

ummm yep..IIRC, HSV(Holden Special Vehicles) was going to release a road going variant of the 24hr race car, complete with the cross ram injected 427cu V8 pumping out 400+ Kw's.

It was to be called the HRT427 and was to be produced in small number by HSV and HRT(Holden Race team) but the car was hit on the head after the second prototype, not because of technical problems or government/insurance issues but pricing issues, which makes me laugh because all 50 cars were considered sold before production and more may have to have be produced to meet the demand for such a car...but the been counters stepped in and canned it because they couldn't justify the AU$250000 price tag for each car.

the HRT427 will go down as one of the biggest dissapointments of the early 21st century...not because the car was crap..but because the bean counters were.

IIRC the performance expectation were mid 11's and a top speed inexess of 320km/h
the car was aimed to compete directly with Porsche and Ferarri.

I am aware of that, the Monaro had a LS2 V8 in 2005 as well before production was stopped

Of course you don't care. Every car thread you post in you get owned.

And your Uncle owns a US version of the Skyline...but you simply quit posting in that thread because you got owned.

No difference here. What a freaking retard.

Jeez louise.

I don't see what people don't understand about this. Put a big aftermarket engine in any car and it will go very fast.

Holy **** that would've been a crazy car... and a hell of a price tag to go with it.

yep, the pics looked very cool too, especially the V8 Supercar style cross ram manifold with 8 throttle bodies...very very cool stuff

Well done for Holden, you guys sure know how to cheat. That was a production car race, Holden ran a 427 V8 that has never gone into production for a Holden, ever. They built a prototype, claimed they were going into production (pre-sold enough vehicles to qualify as production), won the race with a non-production engine then cancelled the car. They flat out cheated and should have had their win revoked. It was a huge marketing scam and Holden raised a heck of a lot of awareness for their Monaro by doing it. Screw Holden, seriously.

That may have muscles, but it's pretty much useless.

Cars today are in a whole different league in terms of efficiency and performance and amenities.

I'm guessing unless there's a high percentage of Japanese on these boards, you might, *gasp* see a slight bias in the amount of "American" answers you get.

lol i'm not a Holden fan 😛

I just saw that race on Speed a couple of years ago when they were still broadcasting V8 supercar races. The commentators were hyping up the Monaro... and personally I was rooting for Paul Morris in the Ferrari, since I've been watching him in the Australian Touring car races. I don't remember them saying anything about the Monaro having that 427 V8. But 4 years later... now I know. 😀

This board is slanted HEAVILY in the favor of imports. Don't kid yourself.

What is the question here really? Would I rather have American power or Japanese? Japanese all the way.

Muscle cars? Of course American as the Japanese don't make muscle cars. They make sports cars (not that america doesn't/ hasn't). Sports cars? Japanese of course.......................I  my Zs...........

Oh how misinformed you are. The Holden Monaro existed first.

Moot point, it's still a GTO. It's simply rebadged. I simply pulled the picture from a GTO fansite. A lot of them convert them to Monaro's. Funny thing is, they also had someone there who converted a Monaro to a GTO.

It's made in Australia by an Australian company owned by GM. It's hardly "American muscle".

I wouldn't say "hardly American muscle." It's our engine 🙂
