I don't think this really is such a bad idea. They already had specific orders not to use the US flag on buildings, monuments, etc. Unfortunately, in the heat of the moment, that order was disobeyed numerous times. They even put the US flag on that statue they tore down. They don't want to give the impression that we are conquering Iraq to the rest of the Arab world, who suspects us of ulterior motives in this campaign......

In Viet Nam we weren't allowed to fly the American flag except in specific situations. I guarantee that it bothers you more than it does the troops. They are far more worried about rations, ammo and their hides than they are about flying Old Glory.

Political correctness will be the ultimate undoing of the USA.
We have lost many lives in this battle. The raising of our flag at a symbolic moment of taking down Bagdad is one I want the Arabs to remember. I'm glad they are repeating it over and over on their networks. These people need to see what happens when you play with fire... you get burned.

I think this is a good move. although I thought the soldier who placed the american flag over the face of saddam statue, then took it down and put up an iraqi flag was kind of symbolic. The american flag should be allowed on our equipment and soldier clothing
I agree. I don't agree with the flag being removed from our own equipment and clothing, but it should definitely not appear anywhere else. I know how important our pride is to us, but it's probably better to be sensible about this issue. I would rather err to the side of caution than to the side of pride.

Yes they had not shown ANY of the celebration until that flag went over Saddam's face, they had a story on it in less than 60 seconds stating it should have ben an Iraqi flag, did they ever show that was raised as well? Of course not, but it's the western media that's biased....

It's too bad we weren't as smart as the Brits and issued that order before we invaded. Not surprising but too bad nonetheless.

that was testosterone-laden blunt show of US domineering, and that's not going to go over well at all

I see nothing wrong with displaying the American flag over there, but if posted in a non US base, the pre-Saddam Iraqi flag should be flown higher. Foreign flags are not banned in the US and other countries why should they be banned in Iraq?
I can understand not flying it all over the place, putting it in the Iraqi peoples faces so to speak but I think that both UK and US flags should be shown on their vehicles and encampments, if for nothing more than identification!

why does it have to be the American Flag? I would rather see an Iraqi flag. I find it quite disturbing and arrogant, but that's just me.
