Well it turns out the 16 ounce glass bottles at the deli near my work are spanish or mexican or something.. no english at all. It is made with sugar and I don't like it as much... it isn't as fizzy for one thing, but that could just be because its a glass bottle imported from another country.

I brought up to the cashierthe fact that they have no english on the bottle and she said they must be imported or something. The spanish woman online behind me said "get a straw... trust me.. i know" wtf!!!

I believe there are no glass bottle cokes bottled anymore in the US.
Sad - I like the bottles more, even though mexican coke tastes the same.
we have limited production glass bottled coke here in 6 packs.

Very cool. Am jealous.

I thought Canadian Coke uses a mix of HFCS and sugar?
it does.

http://www.cbc.ca/health/story...fructosecornsyrup.html

Canadian coke just recently (late 2008) switched back to sugar

http://gomestic.com/cooking/coca-cola-the-real-thing/
according to the bottle of coke I bought today, that article is wrong.

In Canada, if the ingredients say glucose-fructose then it contains HFCS and coke does.

I have a friend who goes to Canada to visit family and brings back a bunch of coke every time. I had him look at one of his cans, and there is no glucose-fructose listed.

Maybe different bottling companies are allowed to use different recipes?

Woah, hold on a minute. You're telling me that there's no ketchup or dill pickle chips in the US? They're missing out.

Of course Lays are the worst.

They're here, though I'm just over the border.

Great.
that's just like the 'old' coke bottles.

American Coke is terrible compared to the stuff that uses real sugar. But so is any American soda that don't use regular sugar.

according to everyone I've ever talked to that was from somewhere else....everything is better where they came from.

Ok so my question is how is:

American coke vs. Mexican Coke - Well I know the outcome. Mexican coke wins hands down. My roommate stopped buying bottled coke from the convenience store and drank my Mexican coke instead.

American Pepsi vs. Pepsi Natural

Are the changes basically the same? I tried Pepsi Natural but I haven't done a heads up comparison like I got to do with coke.

Had a Mexican Coca-Cola refresco last night with my dinner.

Checked the label...SUGAR, not HFCS. (gotta check...some Mexican Coca-Cola has sugar, some has HFCS.)

The overall taste is the same, but the underlying sweetness is much different and the follow-up taste is much better.

Yep, pretty much. Coke with sugar and not HFCS makes a much better rum & Coke too IMO. 🙂

I'm not much of a rum & coke drinker...never liked any soda pop with liquor, but that only makes sense since GOOD rum is made from cane sugar.

If the sugar coke is anything like the pepsi version I will still with the syrup version since all the ones I have tasted with only sugar have tasted like crap.

SO basically the OP was full of it as Canadian Coke does not use sugar???
yes and no. it does taste different from American coke, but there is a mix of sugar and HFCS.

see my pic: http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/IronWoode/coke_label.jpg

If it was a mix they would delineate the two with a comma. I think that slash means that some bottling plants use sugar and others corn syrup.

I was thinking that as well.

Anyone here ever have regular Coke in the UK? I was in Scotland some years back and I swear it tastes like American Pepsi.

what's really annoying is there is no way to tell which bottles contain sugar and which contain HFCS.

But I agree - they taste exactly the same.

I guess you could read the label ... but there is no other way to tell.
Everybody who says they can taste a difference is full of BS.
