"AMD's role in Stealth Viral Marketing - Q&A"

http://alienbabeltech.com/abt/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=24247

Gonna post a "fair warning" mod comment here for the community's benefit and behest: Critique the message (the context and pretext of the contents of the link itself), not the messenger.

And that goes for the messenger of the message within the link. You can critique the message, the method of its delivery, and your perception of the intent if you feel inclined. But personal attacks against Apoppin are not acceptable as he is a member of this community.

"What a DB" is not acceptable, "the method used by Apoppin makes me question his journalistic integrity" is acceptable. Separate your issues with the topic itself from that of making it a personal issue. (if that is where you fall on the matter)

Threadcrapping in this thread is not acceptable. If you don't like the thread then don't post in it. The very topic itself is intrinsically inflammatory, as such it is the ruling of the VC&G moderator staff that this thread is NOT a flamebait thread.

Find a way to be productive, respectful, and civil OR stay out of the thread. Personal attacks, thread-craps, etc will be sanctioned.

Well, having never visited appopin's tech site besides once to see what the commotion was about, with this article, I am now persuaded that I have been missing out on some top notch journalism and that I should subscribe to his site on a more regular basis if I want to keep myself up to speed with IT news.

Or am I being sarcastic?! YOU decide.

I'll give this a read when I get some time at work, always looking for an interesting article. Good thing not much is there yet, so I can read as it gets added.

Thanks for continuing to pollute our forum with inflammatory hyperbole. Now a link to another forum where the couple a few active forum posters are going to collectively speculate their way to a conclusion ?

What is wrong with you ? Not only are you a long time member of the community and you add this trash to our forum, but you're stuck on this topic. Ironic when you are a member of nvidia's focus group, a group that started as a viral marketing effort by nvidia.

Shame on you.

Please don't do this. You are attacking the messenger rather than the message. Warning.

Whatever grooveriding, give me some free 7970s you shill.

NOTE: I am just joking

edit: my thoughts - some of it looks plausible? maybe?, but unfortunately apoppin is using data from 2006. I'll give another read after work.

I feel really disappointed, that "AMD's Stealth "Playbook" - the "how to" recruit and target a tech forum" heading has no content. I'll gladly say good things on the internet about AMD or Nvidia, whichever gives me free stuff! :D

What does this have to do with the "hardware and technology" of "video cards and graphics"?

Sounds more like social "news" to me.

Ok, this damage control thing is getting out of hand... Just wait it out people, seriously, its not like african families are gonna die just because AMD is currently leading the graphics industry

Seriously, a focus group member posting about viral marketing... Sounds like a good premise for one of those bar jokes

If AMD is paying for viral marketing its not getting its moneys worth. Of course, how do you defend a disaster like Bulldozer?

Still, I will be interested to see what REAL evidence he comes up with. I would think nVidia is the far bigger violator (wood screws), but I don't like underhanded tactics from any company.

Well done . You know me keys I was as big an ATI fanbois as there could be . The reason I wouldn'y buy NV was for this type of marketing . Around the time discussed I noticed the AMD was doing things differantly. As time passed I seen AMD adopted NV marketing method. I posted about it some time ago but I still stayed with AMDs gpu . But PH and BD ended it for me , The OUT AND OUT LIES was even worse than Rollo way worse . So now I back to NV. Who by the way has changed its marketing to the + side of whats acceptable . still a ways to go but much improved

When I read Q&A I thought he was actually going to ask people in the know NOW, not dig up info from 5 years ago.

He SHOULD be asking questions now but I think after starting something like this, no one from AMD would care to comment.

guys should let this thread sink. just saw he took someones post from here. let him fill up his article from his own forum posts. he has what 6 posters?

I'm still waiting for a real article. in a month he has posted 2 articles. so much for a tech site. he's always bragging in his posts of all the stuff he is reviewing - post the articles!

guy became a joke overnight. sad.

I would like to respectfully disagree with you on the Rollo comment. The AMD "shills", fanbois, or whatever they are, are all very amateurish. Rollo, otoh, was extremely intelligent, professional, and was able to deceive many intelligent people for a long period of time.

BTW, the reason Apoppin is so pissed at AMD is that they called him a few years ago and basically laid out their viral marketing plan for him. When he got offended/upset/etc, it started a long downward slope to his relationship with them, to the point that now they've lost one of their biggest fans. He still claims to this day that 2900xt was a great video card, and he can list numerous bullet points defending his orange box purchase. AMD lost him the same way that nvidia lost many of us during the AEG days, and it's very unfortunate that they weren't willing to try finding a way to salvage that relationship.

How does Rollo tie into AMD viral marketing? Wasn't he an nVidia man, heart and soul? Or is ABT claiming he was secretly an AMD mole who was supposed to offend people so badly with his pro-nVidia talk that they bought AMD just to spite him? I don't get it.

If their is a viral marketer here (among the regular members) then their doing a good job hiding themselves. We have some blatant fanboys of both colors but nobody I would say is a viral marketer. Or, should I say, a very good viral marketer. Any time anyone makes too outrageous of a claim they're pretty quickly slapped down with facts.

:whiste: Disappointing he would do something like this.

I'm sure vm is everywhere, but I can't say AMD is any worse than nvidia. I would go as far to say that its obvious nvidia is the worst of the two. I don't know of any AMD focus members. But there are plenty of 'nvidia' focus members.

Why can't that abt guy just let it go. AMD doesn't like you. Get over it already...

so it took him this long to spill the beans? yeah not buying it. I'd say he's clearly still bitter from not getting a review sample. he's trying the same thing that Brazil website did only difference is the Brazilian site actually posted articles. 2 articles in one month? one of which was a collection of rumors and the other his trip to CES? I doubt amd is crying over this soured relationship.

guy needs the hit now he's pulling a Charlie.
