Zen isnt anything new performance wise as the athlon was vs p4. Its imo more or less the same but the lack of ability to execute avx2 might actuslly give them a mm2 advantage for the majority of the segments. Tough for Intel margins.

What is new vs 12 years ago is the wsa. Zen can be made on samsung and tsmc fabs.

Now if amd csn make more or less the same cpu perf as Intel perhaps even with a small mm2 lead and producing them keaning on the arm ecosystem benefits it must be worrying for Intel that is tied to fixed gigantic fab and process cost.

300 man designed the zen cpu core said Papermaster. There is a lot more to it but its not a 100.000 man org needing to be paid.

Dude im not saying Ryzen will be slower then Broadwell-E...i dont have a crystal ball...

I just pointed out people saying that Ryzen will be faster since they dont have any proof...thats wishfull thinking and overhype...if we have to look at leaked benchmarks Ryzen doesnt look good, they are upping clocks but nobody knows exactly how it will perform..

You are referrink to Aots and sysmark leaks? Even if they are not fake, they are made with an higly crippled ES, probabily with the infomous fix that hurts the performance of 30-40%

New Horizon and CPC tests, even with ES, depicted another story: IPC up to 10% more than BWE (Handbrake) and average only slightly lower than BWE (CPC), but that was an older ES of CPC, so let's wait final BIOSes, final MB, final RAM clocks and final base, turbo and XFR clocks...

A mid-to-late Q1 release of Ryzen would be great. I just hope it delivers on price / performance!

Good job with the interview.
Great news about Ryzen. A bit disappointing about Vega...hope that is maybe the lower end Vega...

I don't think whoever wrote that article knows much about GPUs. An besides: I still belive 0x687F is not Vega 10, and someone already made that screenshot in December. And it's the first revision (there already is C3), and still early drivers for a new architecture, and we don't know at what frequencies that device is running (early Polaris prototypes were also running at lower frequencies).

This thread looks like its from semiaccurate :p absolute overhype the beep out of Zen....we are now talking about higher IPC then Kabylake:D:D
it will be fun when Zen launches and it turns out not so good...and then fast finding typical excuses but...but..but in 2030 when games will utilise more cores it will be faster then an i3...;)

More threadcrapping. It's still not allowed.

This thread is for consolidating known information on Zen. It's supposed to be clean. I've already reported this for cleanup.

Stop derailing, it's not the first time you've done it. If you want to do this, then go do it on the other threads.

If you believe zen will not be faster than a i3 then you are much more delusional that the people who are talking better IPC than KL. I realize you are probably joking though.

So far we dont have much to go on, if we believe the CPC leaks then it should perform somewhere in the broadwell range as far as IPC goes. But time will tell if this is accurate. And what i really want are gaming benchmarks anyways.

We do have CPC on record stating IPC was lower than Skylake right? So there is that.

True, but also take into account they had the first stepping ES and they are on stepping 4 now. Granted that might not increase IPC at all but it could also add a few percent of improvements. Time will tell. We really need the NDA to be up and a trusted review.

Really we just need to wait a few more weeks, then we will know for sure.

If thats F4->3.6@4.0 vs stock 6900 then I am gonna be awful close with my ipc 5% behind broadwell prediction..

That s surely the 3.6-3.9 since it s at CES...

BDW work between 3.5 and 3.7 according to Hardware.fr, and games do not scale at 100%, assuming 50% scaling IPC is about the same as the 6900K, at least in this game.

This cannot be used as anything if don't know for sure that the CPU was bottlenecking the system.

This change nothing, if the CPU is the bottleneck then Zen is less bottlenecking the GPU than the 6900K, otherwise there wouldnt be 2.5% higher FPS for the former.

It could also mean that without the GPU as bottleneck the difference would be bigger eventualy..

It'll be interesting to compare the fastest skus with a 6900k overclocked to 4.3-4.5 (common overclocks).

Not really man. You're looking into this too much.

That demo means nothing for actual gaming. No correlation.

Clocks are looking impressive so just wait till the reviews. Leaks won't be long now. Coolaler prob has one brewing up like in the K10 days.
