I'm running the latest (last before future updates were discontinued) version of DVD Decrypter, and it always opens in 2 windows. (Program & Log on the bottom)

You could go under Tools... Settings... Event Tab.... On Exit... and check the "Save The Log" box.

EDIT: Anyone have Pulp Fiction? (One of my all-time favs. )

Yeah it didn't save my last log.....I would have to d oit all over....I may...

How is the encoding coming along?? You did get the WS version, right?? that is what I have....

It may be IO dependent as Mark suggested. I did a defrag my drive and my time did get better...

Once I get my P4 system back up and running and recover the data, I'll put my raptors in the X2 system in raid 0 and see if it changes my times/cpu usage any.

Interesting my compressibuilty test is nearly 80% faster...maybe this is IO limited...How is your cpu usage techno???

Also notice how everything in bold differs slightly from yours...

looks like a 2.664ghz X2 is 28.9% faster then an extremely oc'd 4.4ghz P4....Based on cpu scaling which appears to do rather linearly you would equal to a stcok 4100+ X2 if there was one....

What I would be interested in if any P-D user had the balls to test this..appears not...if you would beat an oc'd P-D on air.....since it is likely it could only get 3.5-3.6ghz max and should be about 20+% behind me....

I wnat to try to get it under 1 hour but that would be another 9% which I am not going to find. If you had this chip Techno I bet you could hit 2.9ghz or so. You should really get yourslef a 3800+ X2 and vapo it...

This is at stock 2.2ghz 11x200, but using the now stock 250 divider and cas 2.5-4-4-10 at 500ddr .....

at 1.32v actual and load temp of 41c with 2 instances of prime95...didn't even hit 40c with the Divx encoding....

Looks like memory bandwidth might be more important for the X2's than tight timings, at least for SMP capable programs. I can't get my ram stable at 333mhz 3-4-4-10 2T, but I think one of my sticks is actualy bad, since it fails when it's by itself, but the other passes. I'll test it in my P4 system when I get the replacement motherboard, and RMA it if it fails there too.

I'm also tempted now to try out a water cooled Pentium-D 830, since I found out I can get one really cheap, just for the heck of it.

Roundup.....Divx 5.2.1 on AutoGK for LOTR- Return of the King WS version

2.664ghz (11x242) 233divider: cas3-5-4-10------------65min 58sec (65.97)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------0.9% (1.7%)
2.618ghz (11x238) 233dvider: cas 3-4-4-10------------66min 37sec (66.62)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------2.3% (1.7%)
2.574ghz (11x234) 233divider: cas 3-4-3-10------------68min 10sec (68.17)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------12.7% (17%)
2.200ghz (11x200) 250divider: cas 2.5-4-4-10----------76min 49sec (76.82)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------8.2% (10%)
2.000ghz (10x200) 250divider: cas 2.5-4-4-10----------83min 7sec (83.11)

overall you have a 33% increase from 2.664ghz to 2.0ghz from 533ddr cas3 to 500ddr cas 2.5....yet performance is only 26.8%...IS IT NOT LINEAR!! i think that is a clear sign of some sort of bottleneck which may have been increasing the faster I went.....IO may be it...

The more obvius may be looking at the 2 and 2.2ghz since the ram speed and timings are constant...I wich I had a 12x multi...I may try a 9x200 to see if it continues in the pattern...

any updates gents???

I wonder why with such agreat chip as touted by Dothan and Intelia we have not seen any P-D's or Oc'd Dothans competing in this....I wonder why???

Let me say Hatsoff to a class act like Technonut who started this thread to see some REAL WORLD performance...He knew in all liklihood he wouldn't beat the X2 but he did it to truly understand waht the differences were beyond this synthetic world of reviews we get....

Technonut!!! I would take your computer anyday...

I'm going to run-through ROTK again after I defrag my drives. I think that I will run it from my Raptor, then the Barracuda.

I am surprised there was not more participation in this thread. I suppose it is too time consuming. Folks like a fast benchmark like everything else I guess.

Thanks for the props...:) No, I did not figure to beat the X2. It was interesting to see the results though..... ;)

That old thing is by far one of the best P4s I have seen to date...I have seen higher but off of system I think do nothing but run superpi 1mb and may not be stable to run multi hour encodings...

I listed this thread in extremes INtel forums I hang out in once in awhile...we will see if Big Stan steps up with his P-D chip or Fugger with his Dothan setup....

Defraggnig can help to the tune of 2-3% depending how bad it is. I used a raptor so unless you have some raided raptors I dont think we will see much but it could go to help prove th etheory this is starting to become IO limited...

Techno....what are you cpu usage patterns like when encoding??? Are you pegged at 100% for both first and 2nd pass??? If so that may be a sign cause the faster I seem to go I get less and less for my max cpu usage...at 170fps / 24fps of forced film mode I am going 7x real time with audio...that could be hard as just back a few years ago anything less then a 7200rpm ATA66 drive could not capture a raw AVI file at real time withou possible dropped frames...This iis compressing a file in the range to 1/5th to 1/6th the size but is doing it 7x faster. It may be a limitation that needs faster drives...

Yup I suggested we try it on the SCSI array. I will bet its IO bound. With 5 times the IO speed on the SCSI array (200k vs 40) I get we can get both cpu's to 100%

YOu need to have it set to auto res in the advanced submenu and then with 2cd 1400mb target picked it will size it to fit within those parameters...

I wonder why with such agreat chip as touted by Dothan and Intelia we have not seen any P-D's or Oc'd Dothans competing in this....I wonder why???

more fanboy comments....your not that much different that Dothan...

Really how do you figure???...I can back up any of my claims, unlike Dothan and intelia....Since I can, then what I say is pretty much true and nothing like what Dothan states.

Plus it is a legit question....I wonder why I haven't had one P-D user try the test....the other part is sarcasm since at the time this thread was being authored we were being bombarded by claims, that Dothans are the best chip ever, P-D chips are better then X2's, X2's are buggy and have problems, etc....

I am a fanboy...Fanboy of PC's with encredible performance.....

Since you have the nerve to make that comment I guess I can say you are also a lot like Dothan...A half-wit...How can anyone claim what Dothan was doing is the same as me poking fun at how NO one will do the test with a P-D??? I posted this on extremesystems and there are several P-D systems in there and no one will do it either...

I did that and I now get 720 X 522. Where is the advanced submenu if it isn't called advanced settings? My AMD X2 is running at 2717 and it is running at 75-85 percent but my first pass took 1h 20minutes or so. That doesn't sound right at all, LOL. At this rate it will take my system longer than a 2.8 PIV.

Something seems way off on my system compared to yours Duvie, LOL. My compression time is over four minutes compared to your 2:30 seconds or so at 2.66. I only have around 30% processor usage on the commpression test.

OK.....

Yep something is wrong....

I hit 85-100% on the compressibility test...It is th eencoding passes 1st or 2nd that I seem to be in the 75-90% range...

That time is probably very right actually since you are basically doing twice the resolution....Also make sure you are looking at Stevty...He ran the first movie fullscreen version...notice above how he did something wrong the first time an dgo tsimilar 1hr 20min first pass...he figured it out cause he eneded up getting this...DO NOT COMPARE TO MINE...not the same since you are doing fullscreen version...

under advanced options....make sure auto width is checked....

Talk to stetvy to figure out what he did differently to get much better score 2nd time around...I know he did a reinstallation of the program or at least makes sure you install the divx 5.2.1 codec after you install autoGK...Also make sure you remove previous versions of divx codec on the machine...

This is my first complete test for you all. I used LOTR (Fellowship of the Ring Full Screen Edition)
CPU is AMD X2 4400+ at 2750. Memory is 2X1gig Patriot dimms at 196 and timings of 2-3-2-7
Hard drive is a Raptor.

Questions? My compressibility test is rather high and maybe my memory bandwidth is an issue. I will experiment more tomorrow, LOL.
