Your compressibility is waaaaayyyy off 99% versus his 32%...notice you missed the target 1400mb or 2 cds...Looks like 3 cds which menat the file ended up being larger as well....

I am running it again right now. Something strange is going on, it's been extremely inconsistent. It's been running for 40 minutes on the first pass and is only 54% of the way done.

Technonut do you have the widescreen version or the full screen version? I have the widescreen, if you have full screen thats probably part of my problem. I had to change a setting to get 528x224 as it was doing 720x320 on auto.

Thanks for taking the time to do the runs stevty2889.... :)

When I ran AutoGK, I just pretty much followed the linked guide to the letter, using those settings.... ( most everything "auto" ;) ) I have not fooled with AutoGK much myself. I thought it would be interesting to see actual benchmarks from others on this forum instead of quick ones done from reviews on other sites.

I still need to list some different DVDs to try. I would like to see more results from other X2 rigs @ different OC's.

EDIT: stevty2889: I also have the widescreen version. Did you follow the DVD Decrypter settings to use in the guide?

I follwed the DVD decryptor settings exactly as they were in the guide, and the AGK settings as well, but it set mine to 720x320 for some reason, I un-installed and re-installed everything, gonna try again and see if it makes a differance. I missed "--- When you get to the part about additional tasks, we recommend that you
DO NOT check the ?Decode All Supported 4CCs?? box, as it is better to have DivX decode DivX, Xvid to decode XviD, etc." the first time I installed, so maybe that was part of the problem. I re-installed with that box un-checked, I'll see how the results come out this time.

And I am now running again on the X2, but set the affinity so it's only using 1 core, so that should give a close approximation to how it would run on a single core A64 at the same speed.

That is 19% faster then Technonuts P4 rocket....Technonut that is a kick arse P4 you have....I would love to see vapoochill on an X2...You ought to try one....

I will likely try the test ina few days but since I dont have the movie I may have to borrow it from MarkFW900. I am running 4% fastsr then Stet right now but with much faster ram speed. I will laso run it at 2.664ghz for my best time. That is 7.6% faster then stets cpu....Let see if it translate into a linear gain...

Hey Stet can you run the test on the Return of the King movie...I have that one....

Also how do you set it to use an older codec if you have the newer codec installed???

So 1hr 14min versus 1hr 56min.....

single core 2.475ghz is 31.8% slower then Technonuts P4 4.4ghz

dual core 2.475ghz is 18.9% faster then Technonuts P4 4.4ghz

dual core vs single core at 2.475ghz is 56.7% faster....

It appears to me the Divx codec is OK at SMP but at 56.7% it leaves something to be desired...

I am doing the LOTR-return of the King now with guide setup and then I will run it at single core and then I will run it with the superior (IMO) Xvid codec....

One thing I notice out of the gate is in the 1st pass I am not holding a 100% cpu usage...I am seeing 68-82% a majority of the time...I will take a screenshot....So there appears to be the proof it is not taking advantage of all of the power...

My next test should be run the test again as I continue my downloading and watching a movie and see if my times still hold....

It appears the Xvid codec takes longer but it is rumored to doa better job especially when the source is high quality liek a DVD rip would be...I will have to do some QC tetsing...

CPU usage 1st Pass

the 2nd pass had moments in the 90-99% range but I didn't get a screenshot...

Nice results! :) It is great to see a real-world task benchmarked for a change. ;) Using LOTR (either Fellowship or ROTK) works well also since they are long movies.

The X2 is indeed very quick....

stevty2889: Job finished. Total time: 1 hour, 14 minutes 15 seconds (Fellowship Of The Ring)

Duvie: Job finished. Total time: 1 hour, 8 minutes 10 seconds :Q (ROTK)

I am picking-up ROTK on Wednesday, and will post results.

I would love to see vapoochill on an X2...You ought to try one....

You know that I will.... ;) I have just been holding-out for a mobo designed and optimized for the X2 before I make a move. Who knows though, I may just go ahead and grab a nForce 4 939 mobo and X2 sooner.... :) EDIT: I just happen to have the VapoChill 939 installation kit sitting here gathering dust.... I have not heard of the X2 having the "cold bug" , so it should work....

My next test should be run the test again as I continue my downloading and watching a movie and see if my times still hold....

I noticed the same thing, alought I was staying between about 75-85%. When I ran it on one core, it used 100% of the core.

Probably an IO limitation. If Duvie could come over and help me figure how to run this thing, we could try it on my Opterons w/SCSI. They are the same speed as a stock 4400+, but I get sustained read/write at over 200k, instead of 40-50k on IDE and SATA.

HEY TECHNO....

What really with the difference of Xvid versus Divx?? Notice how my Divx chose a lower resolution...Though I have to admit when I watched them at a drug open size of approx 720 they both looked pretty good...The divx file seemed a little better in color as the Xvid was rather bright, however the Divx I think is not as good in the fast action sequences....

What happened to all the features of sharp, bicubic, etc....No really options for tweaking it seems.....Maybe that is why it is the auto program....less thrills

IO limitation??? Interesting.....I guess that is a possibility when you are pulling 100-160fps or nearly 6-7 times real time (using the forced film 24fps).......

Personally, I think both codecs turn-out decent backups... Like I said, I have not fooled with AutoGK much. I think that it is great to be able throw a few (or more) movies on a single DVD-R, and have watchable quality.. :) EDIT: I backed-up a 2 hour flick using AGK/DivX, and the quality using the 1 CD (700MB) option was pretty damn good.

I did a couple of XviD runs of LOTR (Fellowship) before, but for some reason it kept re-running the first pass. Still not bad time considering ;) :

This was done at 2.664ghz...I tried with 200 divider and tighter timings but it appears it like the bandwidth more then timings...So I ran 233 divider but with cas 3-5-5-10...I tested already before and I dont think I could get my ram to be stable at 3-4-4-8 at this speed. I think it got EEU's in F@h but did not when I tested it at 3-5-5-10...I only have 2.85v to give...

Nice times Duvie... :)

I am running AGK ROTK on my primary rig now... Will post results soon.

BTW, OT (My thread though ;) ) What kind of rip times are you guys getting? On ROTK my Plextor 716-SA did:

Average Read Rate: 8.5x
Maximum Read Rate: 12.0x

Total: 11m 16s

I have a Liteon 163 and I dont remember seeing a 12x but I did hit 10x but started at around 4x so my average is likley only 7x...That is some nice rip speeds on a dual layer disc.....

I owuld have to go do it again to get something official like yours...Does it keep a log file of it???
