I am building a new high end computer and i want to know if buying a X2 4800 or a fx-57 proc would make any difference? i mainly use my computer for gaming and editing videos and would a dual core be any better than a single core?

can you justify your opinion?

the 4800+ would be the better choice if he has that money to burn

If dropping nearly a GRAND on a CPU, its the X2 hands down..

Almost guaranteed 2.6ghz and then its a no brainer..

Sacrifice 200mhz for a ADDITIONAL core @ 2.4ghz!! ( 2.6ghz OC )

You could always OC the FX-57, and many have dont to 3.0 :). But I would have to say the X2, as if your video editing, especially using photoshop, then you'll see a VERY large increase in that application. As for games, well you won't notice that much of a difference because the video card matters more than the procesor for 3d games.

Even based of the Link of the 2nd poster, the 57 @ 3ghz doesn't win by much..

The second core is absolutely worth it at the same price.

$800 for X2 4800+
versus
$1000 for the FX-57

So they are not the same price as the X2 4800+ is 20% cheaper. Enough for the new Nforce4 full dual 16X lane SLI boards that are coming out if you get the X2. :D

Just wanted to point that the X2 4800+ has dropped in price enough below the FX-57 that it makes it harder to justify the FX-57

For people who have the money, buy two pcs, one F-57 just for gaming and the other is X2 or dual opteron workstation or desktop for all the work :)

If you can afford only one PC, then I prefer the X2, even if the F-57 will beat it in single threaded applications the X2 is still better...

Imagine this situation (we all do that even if we use the PC for mere gaming):

I run Doom 3 while I have Antivirus software and software firewall in the background. Also, I download a torrent file that eats 5-15% of processor power.

The single core processor running the game will be running at 80-90% efficiency dedicated for Doom 3 while the dual core will be 100% dedicated to the game as the other running operations will be handled by the other core...sweet isn't it?;)

Even if gaming will not benefit directly from the 2nd core, the X2 is the way to go for today and surely for tomorrow :)

X2 4800+ for sure. Why?
1.- Multiprocessing
2.- Versatility
3.- Very fast
4.- Cheaper
5.- Future applications and
6.- 2x1

its true that hte fx-57 is the best for gaming out there, but 5fps doesnt do justice. the x2 4800+ is the far smarter choice and the more superior processor in all fields. dual-core's the future.
