I'm looking to build a system pretty soonish based around an AMD X2 3800+ CPU, but am getting a headache trying to find a reasonably priced mobo that supports this out fot he box as i want a nice and straight forward firsty build.
I thought i'd found what i was lookign for in the ASUS A8R-MVP, but have just read a few quite nasty reviews about it's reliability :S

I dealy i would go for an NF4 motherboard like the A8N-E but can't find anything anywhere about setting up a dual core processor in this, as in whether or not it will just recognise the CPU as single core until i update the BIOS or if it just won't be recognised!

If anyoen could explain the ins and outs of installing a dual core processor in an nf4 mobo then i would be very grateful. Second to that if anyone has any recomendations of boards (around £80) which support the dual core CPU out fo the box then please could they enlighten me.

Thankyou very very much in advance, and i look forward to reading your responses.

I just updated my system with a X2 and the Asus A*R-MVP and everything went fine, and stable.

Just like any system, just get good PSU, take some time to fully read the manual and you should be fine. I've used the Asrock 939 dual sata2 before with the X2 and it was fine.... I'm pretty sure that any new motherboard that did not sit on the shelf more than 8 month should be compatible with the X2 out of the box.

Dont be wrong on the Asus. it is a good board, simply not the overclocker one everybody expected. But for mere overclocking, it should be fine for you. And it is fast.

Ty for your help grooge, I am probably going to go for the ASUS int hat case, other than that i was thinking of an Abit KN8 Ultra but it doesn't seem to have so many features.

Thanks Again 14fingers

I'm running a AMD Althon x2 4800+ on MSI's K8N Diamond Plus and it's working wonderfully. All the reviews that I've read on this Mobo have been great. Just a suggestion.
