AMD vs INTEL (POLL)

Let the flames begin. These types of threads are generally worthless. BTW you aren't asking about a CPU you are asking about a company, and this is how flame wars get started. Why don't you ask about 2 specific CPUs? Then the thread can have some intelligent conversation.

A month ago (and quite a few months before that) I would have said Intel but now an Athlon 64 3000 would make the better system unless you use the system primarily for encoding. This is without getting stupid expensive. That doesn't mean that AMD is king because you really won't notice a difference between a 2.8c and a 3000+ in normal use. The only time that small % of extra speed will help is for people who use DC apps, rendering apps, and computational apps. These are really the only things that current processors still take a long time to do. It mah be able to save a couple hours processing time over a few days. Are you really going to be able to see the difference in 80fps & 90fps. I think not.

Intel = good
AMD = good
Competition = good
Fanboys = sux.

I vote for faster cheaper CPUs.

After you are done voting here, go find an NVidia vs. ATI poll in the video forum and vote in that too.

I swear, we get one of these every single day.

As my sign may tell you I prefer AMD over all, but it's completly true that there should be specified models, and also the CPU is not all for gaming, you have to consider also the video card and the RAM, this can't be answered by one company, I in my little oppinion prefer AMD, but Intel is not bad, far from that

im not tryin to have anyone flame me. I've only been a member for a month or 2. And i dont know how i can be more specific except that if you were to take the best AMD and the best INTEL proccesor, wich would run the games better 🙂

the question is.. how do you define better?

come on now, the human eye can't detect the difference between 150 fps and 160 fps

the fx may be the fastest chip out but seriously now, you have to consider cost and performance and other stuff before you can really say something is "better" than something else

You should relly be more concerned with your vid card. Come back with the cpu question when you need to know which one is going to render something faster because you need to get a job donein X amount of time in order to recieve a paycheck.

Both are good processors, and while the power strugle is very close, AMD seems to hold the value crown. Most people on this forum don't have the ability to shell out $1000 for the newest processor when it comes out every few months. Many of us define which is "best" by which solution offers us more for our money. I have to say the recent trends in overclocking, value, and overall speed point to AMD (for now).

Competition is great for us as consumers. If either company would ever "win" the war we would be screwed in the future b/c they would surely raise their prices. Every time someone comes out with something new we benifit becacuse we get newer technology and faster speeds at lower prices... which is what we all want!
