I have the same concern for those that overuse their vocabulary. :D

Sorry, had to say it. :D

Yeah, I probably needed that... :/

Perhaps you would like to add your particular insight regarding the market conditions for AMD or Intel, which is the subject. Or you could insult the OP and continue to look rather uninformed. Im guessing youll continue with the latter.

And btw, responding is not "bupp"ing.

Har-har. *slaps knee* Maybe I should stay out of the kitchen too, eh?

I am uninformed - grad students don't have enough money to pay attention to the stock market. I know that in tech, stocks are high stakes - they drop, they rise - you ride the wave. I just didn't see the significance of one day - except to re-spark controversy that has become the new vanilla around here.

And if you want to get all F7 - you forgot an apostrophe in your contractions.

Grad student eh? Let me guess, underwater basket weaving? And whats this, you know stock prices rise and fall? Gee, I didnt know that. Thanks! And if you dont see any significance of a one day drop, Im betting you didnt even read the article. And if you think your sarcasm is anything more than worthless, think again. :light:

Geeze, man - lighten up. It's hard holding your breath for that long underwater.

No, actually, the little I understand about economics (I never really cared for it), tech stocks seem more volatile than others since the industry moves so fast. I may have missed the significance, so I'll read it again. I think, in the beginning, I could have taken this a little more seriously without the Anti-AMD spin that's been going around here for awhile. Crash and burn and get out of the kitchen didn't really tip me off that we'd actually have a discussion on our hands here.

I'm not trying to propogate a flame war here felix - if you want to win, you can (hell, maybe you already did...). I realize I don't know everything - I come to AT forums to try to learn.

K. Since, you asked for insight -

I'm not saavy enough to be able to say what will happen, but I don't think that AMD's announcing up to 50% price cuts helped their Q2 sales this year.

I may be way off base there, so I'm going to shut it and watch this 'market stuff' and maybe I'll learn enough to open my mouth later.

And sorry for making an ass of myself.

Oh wait newsflash!!!

An anti AMD thread???...Whenever I see an anti-amd thread or pro-Intel FUD (this not necessarily one of those) I give myself 3 guesses who it will be...generally I only need 1...

Why the mods have not gotten rid of this tool I dont know....

I say perma-ban for...

A) repeatedly posting obvious flamebait threads
B) repeatedly misquoting peoples comments
C) likely a repeat offender who has been banned before, so no 1 week vacations now
D) offers NO value to this forum....when has this guy ever helped anyone here....

Lets have a poll to see if Felix is a positive or negative asset to this forum....I know which one my money is on....

I don't understand why in the world the OP seems like he is happy about that? Makes no sense to me? Why aren't you happy that Intels is way down too? People are losing money and he is happy? Talk about sad and twisted.

Intel is doing no good. It has reported a 57% drop in Q2 profits and has further announced large job cuts.

A little dramatic aren't we?
Looks like a drop on bad news to me... no crash & burn.

Yes, the title was a bit dramatic. But just read some of the posts of people who became 15%+ poorer in one day, you'd think it was the end of the world.

Bad inference. A sad and twisted inference you made, Jason.

They are only poorer if they sell at the low. If they wait and let the stock rebound they are ok. Long term investors should be just fine.
Day traders that were long AMD may have got bit. But those that were short may have made a nice little chunk of change with the stock dropping.

It's not a drop on bad news, really.

From what I've seen, when a takeover is rumoured the taking over company (AMD) loses share price, while the company being taken over (ATi) gains.
This appears to be what's happening, and it wouldn't be too suprising if the shares bounce back a bit soon enough.

I think a huge part of the problem wiht intel and amd is that they hit the wall on performance about 4 years ago.

A pentium 4 or athlon xp with 512 ram from 2001 or 2002 will still perform just fine for 90% of users today. Back in the 80s and 90's you would get huge gains and computers would be outdated in just a year or 2 with how fast cpu power was growring.

not the case anymore. For familes that surf the web using XP home. They won't need to upgrade their 2001 computer for a LOONNG time.

Anyway, now AMD have bought ATI, they look in a very strong position indeed.
No crashes or burns from where I'm standing.
