You obviously didn't read the article very carefully "Analysts have suggested that this move is a precursor to AMD splitting into two companies". AMD and Fujitsu are already partially merged. This will merge them even further and then take that merged company and split it into two parts: memory and processors. Basically they will take 2 companies, combine them, and then form 2 new companies from that mixture.Originally posted by: TheEvil1
thats a merger not a split up. and thats good news

Hasn't the flash memory business been what's carried AMD recently?
In the new joint venture, AMD, No. 2 in the industry behind Intel, is expected to own a 60 percent share to Fujitsu's 40 percent stake in Fujitsu-AMD Semiconductor, according to The San Jose Mercury News, citing industry sources. Each company currently owns a 50 percent share in an existing partnership.

If it splits then say bye-bye to AMD processors. They'll become somebody else's processor division and then probably be killed off, just like all of the other companies have been.

Flash has been their profit cow for some time now. Even in this sales slump its still churning necessary cash for them.
Remove AMD's flash business and you cut their lifeblood.
