You obviously didn't read the article very carefully "Analysts have suggested that this move is a precursor to AMD splitting into two companies". AMD and Fujitsu are already partially merged. This will merge them even further and then take that merged company and split it into two parts: memory and processors. Basically they will take 2 companies, combine them, and then form 2 new companies from that mixture.

...and that's not bad. Stock prices go up!

Don't really see the problem... either way, people see that AMD makes amazing CPU's.. they will be fine once they get some help from other companies. Intel cant be the only one making desktop CPU's.. that would suck royally.

i wouldn't be phased in the least by a split of AMD. I consider it an attempt to solidify their cpu business by separating further from the flash business.

AMD Products could become less readily available for a time (Unless they are stock piling at the moment) while the exchange takes place but i do not think we would see any difference from what happens now...i hope...a single company share would suck majorly...especially if it was intel...they could price cpu's at whatever they wanted :S

Thats what I was going to say....this would be very bad for their CPU division.

In the new joint venture, AMD, No. 2 in the industry behind Intel, is expected to own a 60 percent share to Fujitsu's 40 percent stake in Fujitsu-AMD Semiconductor, according to The San Jose Mercury News, citing industry sources. Each company currently owns a 50 percent share in an existing partnership.

AMD & Fujutsu will not merge. The key word from that article is "joint venture", AMD & Fujutsu joining to gether and starting a 3rd company name Fujitsu-AMD Semiconductor.

Fujitsu is an incredibly wasteful company. They spend way too much money on fruitless promotions.

Unless the Flash market has improved recently, it's the opposite. Poor Flash sales has been pulling AMD down for 2ish years now.

This is not a bad thing so to speak. AMD is just splitting up into two different parts within the same company. It has been this way for awhile ever since AMD/Fujitsu got together - a flash memory division, and then a CPU/chipset division. No doubt that the two of these companies will be working closely still in the future. I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing for AMD since they have been taking a lot of hits in the desktop market due to slowing demand for PCs. This should cut costs slightly for them and allow them to restructure upper-level management. That's just my opinion though. ;)

If it splits then say bye-bye to AMD processors. They'll become somebody else's processor division and then probably be killed off, just like all of the other companies have been.

Flash has been their profit cow for some time now. Even in this sales slump its still churning necessary cash for them.

Remove AMD's flash business and you cut their lifeblood.

If you have a link to some current numbers I might be convinced, but last I heard the Flash market has been in a major slump for sometime now.
