Maybe for gamers who aren't rich/live with mom and dad.

You could always get this and a PCI-E video card for around the same price after all is said and done... but that's assuming you're buying a new video card too.

I thought that was an agp board too? And you can get two of these for the price of that one.

Yeah, but you can also overclock it to 4ghz (check out toms hardware) and it's dual core... I'm not a fan of intel or anything, I was just making the point that if you wanted to, you could spend your money on a motherboard that supports a PCI-E board instead of paying it for the AGP premium.

Right, but are you going to be able to hit 4GHz overclock on that VIA chipset board? Also, Tom's hit 4GHz on water cooling, plus measured fairly high power draw, estimated 200W for CPU alone, and stated that a good 500W PSU was mandatory. So, 2X price on CPU/mobo combo, more expensive PSU, expensive water cooling (AFAIK no cheap water cooling is any better than premium air cooling), real cost difference in electricity used (see that locked thread in CPUs that FelixDeKat created)... I can't see how that P-D 805 is worth the cost for us cheap bastards in this thread. ;) We're all about low TCO. $80 for CPU/mobo combo, $8 for HSF (Cooler Master w/copper base and 80mm fan shipped price from ClubIT), whatever cheap PSU... it's all good. BTW, my latest combo from Fry's was the Sempron 3100+ with an Nforce4-4X chipset board with PCI-E and overclocking... all for $80. Outpost has not had that deal yet, but it's been available off and on from various Fry's with various CPUs for a month or so.

Got mine last week and it is up and running......2.34Ghz stable using the Biostar BIOS and a step up in core voltage. Should be able to take it to at least 2.4Ghz when I have some time to play with the settings.
Not bad at all for $79. I can definitely see a difference in games compared to my old 3200+ Barton. Nothing huge, just smoother gameplay in some areas where I used to experience some stuttering.

One thing I have noticed is that the board won't boot up stably when the HTT is at 2x. Boots and runs fine at 3x and 4x, but for some reason hates 2x.

Hey AMUNPiper, glad you found the deal to your liking and welcome to the forums.

BTW, I see that the "other" thread about this deal keeps getting locked. That guy just doesn't get it.

Thanks Zap.
Been following this thread for quite some time....is full of a lot of good info.
Finally decided to go ahead and get one, and am glad that I did. Might have to pick up another for the kids.

Glad you found it to be useful.

robertk2012, if this thread was just a single page regarding just the original deal which expired then it would be worth a repost, however the deal has been almost continuous (excepting for when out of stock). So what if the price changed a bit? Knowing that people are finding the information here to be of value means a repost is not needed regardless of whether the price is off or not. There's plenty to offer here with people posting when the combo is back in stock, when out of stock, when offered in a Fry's, the "easy" BIOS overclocking settings, the best value heatsinks, clockgen info, "alternate" BIOS info... thus this thread is still current and other threads are redundant.

Now, you are right in saying that it would be nice if the OP updated his post to at least reflect current info, but still this thread has "prior art" and thus yours was a repost. There's another thread around here on Corsair ValueSelect RAM that seems to be updated whenever prices change, and that's pretty nice to see. Perhaps the OP will see us discussing this and at least change the thread title.

I agree with what you said but I really believe that the price is just as important since this is the Hot deals forum. All the input put forth so far is appreciated and should not just be deleted. Why didnt the moderator just update the price?

Boy... Still showing "Call for Availability".... I have my friend ready to buy one of these combos (he is still running a Dell with a P4 1.8ghz :Disgust;). I have helped him upgrade the Video card, Memory and the HD. Now I have told him it is time to put the original parts back in and make a new system with the better Video card/Memory/HD. Between this and a case w/PS, he should be in good shape.

BTW: I have started a WTB thread since I am looking to try a NF4 S754 motherboard. If someone has one F/S (Zap?!?!?) please let me know. I am interested in playing around with S754 a bit more (just not ready to spend for S939's yet). I am considering a re-furb Biostar NF4 from newegg since that board has PCI-e and AGP support that might buy me some time (I am not quite ready to replace my 6800GT yet).

Sorry dude, the one I reviewed has a buyer (already gave me $100 deposit to build complete system with that board). If you are wanting socket 754 with overclocking and PCI-E, I have a Biostar Geforce6100-M7 board that I can sell you cheap, just PM me. BTW, it's NOT the Tforce version but the Geforce version, meaning it won't OC as well as the Tforce but may do as well as the ECS NFORCE4-A754 and definately better BIOS-wise than the ECS NFORCE3-A. I reviewed it and my conclusion was that if it weren't for the Tforce board, the Geforce version would be the top socket 754 mATX board IMO.

If your friend really wants one of the NF3 combos, PM me and maybe we'll work something out because I have one of those. Someone wants to buy it, but money talks and promises walks (to bastardize a popular saying).

Damn... This looks like such a good deal. I just can't justify the purchase of a motherboard without PCI Express...

The great thing about the Fry's combos is that the motherboard is basically free. Unless you're looking for uber-top-of-the-line graphics, take the money you would have spent on a motherboard and spend a little extra for the AGP version of the video card you want. I practically guarantee you'll still save money. Obviously upgrades will be limited, but at the price of this combo, upgradability shouldn't really be a factor in your decision.
