Global Foundry's yield must be good? RX 470/480 cards' prices have been dropping like flies.

RX 480 could be a very very loose bin. Defects probably aren't very common, but massive variation forces them to have a pretty low bar for an acceptable die.

There was a general improvement in terms of efficiency over time with the RX 480, so this variation is getting nailed down, but I don't believe it's up to snuff yet.

SKUs and their associated coolers and cooling specs. 1800X/1700X/1600X doesn't just require a 95W cooler, but a special 95W cooler.

Where did you find these?

Well, looks like the XFR theory is confirmed.

Damn, that onslaught of info about Ryzen feels surreal, we finally get to see Phenom III
I expected leaks to start pouring in later in the month, this is a lot earlier than I expected. I'm not complaining though :p

So it appears that by logic, this CPU:
Zen-28-february.jpg

is the 6 core Ryzen 5 1600X. 4.2 GHZ turbo on 6 cores, for 299$?

And funniest, all of the leaks so far, paint picture too great to be true, and its hard to believe in them, and yet, reality is better than we expected. Funny times.

So it's "95 W" but it needs a 125 W rated cooler. Which honestly isn't that big of a deal although I guess you have to wonder why they don't just make it 125 W.

Because it can be more than 95W, but much less than 125W. Also bare in mind that the CPUs are unlocked. And most likely will be OC'ed.

Because most users will don't even know it OCed automagically thanks to XFR, but will know they have better scores than the competing products :p

The cooler can handle way more than 125W. Its 150W capable at least and I would think 175W too. The reason why is in the extreme low Tcase rating for the X chips. I cant remember seeing one below 60C Tcase before. You are right tho, they would be 125W TDP chips without very good cooling. Will be interesting to see how 3rd party coolers that are used to much higher Tcase ratings will handle it.

Its all related to this:

I just hope half the reviewers won't forget to do some tests with it turned off, or chip manually OCd to the limit.

So it looks like the F type cooler is Wraith like, and the other two A and B are ducted fan type coolers (probably with no heatpipes).

So the 1600X, 1700X and 1800X all require the F type cooler, interesting.

I don't think that they require the Wraith cooler.
The wraith bundle is how AMD is positioning those SKUs to differentiate them ;)
We'll find out soon

Well not unless you want XFR to work decently... Sure you can cool it with a roll of quarters and tooth paste if you want, but F or better for me, I plan on getting the 1800X and I want to see what XFR can do.

They do require a "Wraith" class cooler to stay within specs. Its not going to work with a HS65 95W cooler for example.

Robert Hallock said something regarding required temperatures for XFR to lift off. The bigger cooler and lower Tcase is not there to hide a TDP but to make room for XFR and avoid a marketing disaster if users put some 40mm fans on their Ryzen chip and claim an XFR dysfunction on Reddit, getting further flak in this very forum and a Hibben article.

How do you know that they truly require a Wraith?
Have you seen data showing that the regular 95W cooler won't dissipate all the heat? Or are you just speculating?

Let's see what Intel ships 5675C (65w) with:

Broadwell-C 95W actual power consumption confirmed.

On topic: a 125W TDP cooler on a 95W tdp product = smaller Tcase, just as the images show. Talk about face-palming fails.

A bigger cooler will despatchheat quicker. Hence giving more headroom for XFR.

The CPU will work fine with a normal 95w sink. AMD is better off with a better cooler to for XFR to kick in and win some extra points in benchmarks. Its quite clever. The bigger cooler probably does not cost a lot more but gets a lot better public perception.
