Wonder if they will make any G chips with the 3D V cache - that would be sweet, but I think they may just give us the 5800X3D for AM4, at least at first, and maybe a 5900X3D later...

Nah, they wouldn't waste that tech on APU's. I'm more interested in the new APU's with RDNA2 graphics architecture than anything else this year.

You're probably right, I have heard nothing indicating AM4 APUs with 3D. But, I also think APUs with RDNA2 will be on AM5 unfortunately...

Amazon price on the 5600G is still there and available. Better CPU than a Ryzen 3600, with better than GT 1030 graphics for $221.50 is a deal in this market.

EDIT: Sold out now. 2/1/2022

What's the best value motherboard to pair with one of these? I've got a microcenter within driving distance and my old tech NAS is falling through possibly, so I'm investigating a new tech NAS with a 5600G.

Just about any 4 or 5 series board is fine. Concentrate on the features you want from the board. Only real caveat is making certain of OOB support. Employees should be able to advise you. Or you can pick a model with a version of bios flashback on it, so you can update it without having a CPU in it.

I have it in an OG MSI Tomahawk for now. But it worked perfectly in an ASRock B450 Gaming itx/ac, too. It already had the latest bios when purchased so it was plug and play.

5600G for $179. (It could be this price at other stores. I only checked 3 sites.)

I traded mine away. Very tempted to buy another to replace a 3200G. The last one did 4.7GHz all core even with a iGPU overclock, with a Noctua redux 12. Ran cool and quiet, always stayed under 1.5vcore. Did it with game mode in the MSI UEFI, one click. The iGPU overclock was one setting change too.

Can't recommend this APU enough at this price.

Disappointed that the 5700G has been stubbornly at or above $250 everywhere (at least at MC)... I feel it should be around $200 really at this point...
If you really think about it $250 for an 8 core 16 thread CPU with decent built in graphics is still a killer deal. The cheapest 8 core sold by newegg is the 10700F and it's $240 with a promo code and doesn't have graphics.

Yeah, BUT it does have less cache and is PCIE3 only... ;)

Here is my hot take-

3.0 16X is still plenty of bandwidth for gaming it up. A 10700f is PCIE 3.0 too, so no advantage there. Also, no point in 4.0 nvme for the vast majority of use cases either. Particularly for buyers at this price tier. And the half sized cache may look worse in bar graphs, but mine will drive a 2070super or 3060ti for a great experience in any game out there. Isn't that what matters? The gaming experience? It boosts to 4.85GHz by clicking one setting, and the Vega concurrently overclocks to 2300-2400MHz by changing one more setting. Free, better than advertised performance, with almost no effort? Yes please!

Where this APU shines though, is tiny gaming capable builds, like a deskmini, or mini-ITX that doesn't have room for a discreet vid card. On its own, there isn't any better bang for buck in the DIY space, for such a build. You don't have to invest in cooling either, the included stock one works fine.

Class leading DIY overclockable APU with 16 threads for $250, and no added cooling cost = hot deal IMO.

MC price update:

5600: $150
5600G: $140
5700G: $210 (LOL I guess they decided it was too cheap, now $220)
5700X: $240
5800X3D: $400

I grabbed the 5700G hoping it would be the elusive stepping 2, but alas, still stepping 0...

5600 is $150 right now at Newegg, that is the deal of the day.

5600 Should PBO undervolt just like the 5600X ? Checking online now.......

Cant find much on the 5600 except it performs almost like the 5600X for less money. I would assume if you have a X570 board. It will PBO very well.

So. $150 is a good deal.

5600X is $190 atm on Amazon

Not certain about undervolting particulars, but @Hans Gruber managed a significant overclock with the 5600

After further testing. The 5600 will do 1.34-1.35v @4700mhz all day, all night and will run cinebench R23 for 11000+ multicore scores. 4.8ghz had issues with cinebench and BF5 after 2 hours of play. For some that is stable. I backed it down to 4.7ghz and called it a day. I would not undervolt a 5600. If you want to manually run the Vcore. 1.35v is a good starting and finishing point.

I caught some flack in the past for using userbenchmark simply as a baseline apples to apples comparison of identical CPU's or in this case 5600 vs. 5600x. The samples of 5600x seemed to top out @4.7ghz as well.

I am using PBO and Curve optimizer on my 5600X via the Agesa tuning on X500 boards. Mine runs 200 mhz over so it can auto clock up to 4850hmz. It works great for me.

I think this 5600X will do 4600 all cores. There is a weak core in there and I dont feel like finding it.

But yeah. 5600 will certainly work for the money. Lots of choices on how to run it. Stock. All Core OC. PBO etc.

Easiest video I found for MSI boards
