Awesome to see them actually in stock! I thought for sure they'd sell out immediately.

Most of the tech tubers have submarined this launch hard, with their noses in the air crappy reviews. Complaining it is still Vega, only testing at 1080p for IGP, and worse yet, in the latest, hardest to run, AAA titles. At least the Doc tested low resolutions in the Anandtech review. Then concluding by saying the prices are bad.

The logic they promote of going i5 and a used 1060 or Polaris make no sense to me. All of these cards are very old now. Meaning they could have all been ragged out during the first mining boom. Or have seen 3-5 yrs of heavy use. Money you threw away if it dies weeks or months after buying it. Yeah, great advice, roll the dice and hope it works out to be a superior frame per dollar value. Oh, they also suggested a 1050ti, which is laughable. Hey guyz! Don't overpay for that APU, instead, overpay for a1050ti.

Where as these APUs are on par or better than a GT 1030 that sells for over a $100, have a 3yr warranty, and will provide good gaming performance and good productivity, with a discreet GPU. They are the best APU in the desktop market by far, but somehow, in this horrible GPU market, they are a bad value. Yeah, these guys can all get rekt.

I think that at these prices... which are the same as the 5600x and 5800x at some outlets... for normal builds they are really solid. A little discount would be great since you lose some PCIe lanes and cache... but power consumption is solid and they should be awesome at non-max scenarios (disappointed not to see idle and mixed use power usage data in the Anandtech article) and should be trivial to cool given the monolithic chip vs the IOD & chiplets.

Especially vs the crazy 5800x which you have to wrestle to the ground given it's bonkers config.

For most folks you could sub one of these in for a 5600x or 5800x and they'd not know the difference on the CPU side of things AND the onboard video ports would actually work. What a miracle given that is very much the exception to the rule at this time. All for the same price! And not adding in a crazy overpriced, really old GPU with it's own fan with how many hours on it already?

And yeah, @DAPUNISHER it makes *total sense* to compare a $260 CPU w/Graphics to a situation where you pair a CPU with a $265 1060 6GB (what I sold one for a few weeks ago) right? I mean, what's a couple hundred bucks on a budget build?

Or scraping a GTX 950/RX 460 on eBay from lord knows when - but at least they couldn't mine, right? lol.

******

Pondering it a bit more, I am not sure that the 5600x and 5800x at the same price really offer anything very desirable to many PC users. AMD has some hard overlap there in terms of pricing and features. Want graphics? Same price. The X cpus give you what, street cred? ha.

Yeah, he is one of my favorite tech tubers. He does some interesting builds, has some cool tips, and covers tiny stuff that is fun. I also like that he actually plays the games, and always does emulation testing. He is straight forward with what the hardware can and cannot do, and buys some of it locally, which is also cool.

If I weren't in the process of becoming the "more frugal, leaner me", I'd pick up a 5700G for the heck of it. But I have no need right now.

I'd like to see the GeForce 1010 released, and these APUs compared in non-gaming tasks, to the 5600X and 5800X with GT 1010, especially in terms of noise and power usage. I think that there's some real value in these new APUs, even with Vega.

The guy is pretty likeable compared to others. He features a lot of stuff I wouldn't normally know about and presents it in a quick and organized format. He also get bonus points for not begging for money.

While we are doing the "What really grinds my gears!" They all did reviews where they would recommend Intel because at least their high core count parts had a SKU with iGPU you can use until GPU prices settle down. And then say something to the effect of - if only AMD would do that, it would help out all the people that want to build, but don't want to get scalped on a GPU. And - the 3400g is only 4/8 with weak IPC, and performs relatively poorly with a dGPU. Along with its price getting inflated for obvious reasons.

AMD does what they requested, and suddenly it is not enough. Very much feels like they still expect AMD to eat thin margins and appeal on value. I don't remember Intel getting their feet held to the fire for charging extra for having the best products all those years. In fact, as I have pointed out before, it was always "If only AMD would be competitive, Intel would have to lower prices." Basically blaming AMD for Intel's premium pricing. :D

No, these new APUs are the best of class. The pricing is fine given the current market forces too. And pushing Intel and Nvidia products as the solution, points to stealth marketing and changing editorial direction after all. :p

OK, OK, couldn't hold out any longer. Going to do a 5700G / 64GB DDR4-3200 / Asus B550-F ROG STRIX Gaming ATX build for myself, in this case:

Can someone recommend a decent air cooler for these APUs? Do they run hotter or cooler than the 5600X / 5800X? Do those need better-than-stock coolers too?

I've been on 240mm AIO LC for a while now, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth, and the new case comes with enough fans already up top, figured that I'd just go with air for this build.

I was traditionally a fan of the Coolermaster Hyper 212 series, since they offer so much bang for the buck, but they can't always keep up with newer high core count CPUs. Noctua seems to be the way to go if you don't want to take any chances, though they are pretty expensive. Probably the NH-D15 chromax.black if you are concerned with the look of the standard coffee colored fans.

From the Doc's review
As it stands, these two new processors at retail fill out AMD's retail offerings, at least down to $259. One of the key benefits is that these two new processors are cheaper than the existing CPU-only offerings, but also both come with appropriate coolers when they are run at their default power modes

Looks like MC has them in stock too. Showing 25+ for both processors at the ATL stores. Same price but you get a 20.00 bundle discount when you buy a MB, so a small break...

$20 shipped. Solid heatsink, decent fan. Give it a shot, LMK what you think.

Used 3x of them, all of them very quiet on Intel 95W CPUs (8700k, 8600k and 8500).

I would expect them to run about the same/cooler as 5600x, which is awesome based on Anandtech Review.

Thanks! I had a $20 Amazon gift card for donating blood; in for one. Literally buying it with blood money I guess. :p ARESGAME has been delivering some bang for buck stuff since showing up on the scene. 5 months using their 750w semi modular in a system, and it continues to be quiet and work flawlessly.

And I think you meant 5600G since that is what the deal is on.

BLOOD MONEY!!! Love it!

I was actually referring to 5600G/5700G when mentioning "them" in same sentence as the 5600x. Haha, sometimes I skip around a ton on my posts, word and edit them poorly. It all makes sense to me when I write it, I promise!

I was basing the comment on this review:

1628278635651.png

I think consensus is the 5600x is a gem when it comes to slapping a "low end" cooler on it but getting good results because of how efficient it can be.

How about $300 for a 5700G?

If you can get the paypal $75 off $375 coupon you can add the 5700G to your cart along with a $5 filler to get to $375.

To see if you have the paypal coupon. https://www.paypal.com/shopping/

This should also apply to other AMD processors.

I'm patiently waiting for AMD to release the 5300G cpu. I want it to build my new HTPC.
