That was really only an "argument" when Intel was dominating and changing their sockets like a girl changes clothes. (As Katy Perry might sing)

I had multiple CPU's on the same board on Socket 7, Socket A, Socket 939, Socket AM2, and Socket AM4. Know which one I didn't? LGA 1155.

That or you went with an i7 and held it for 5-10 years.

Yes, some of our members posted still having their Sandy or Ivy i7 in service 5 years ago during the pandemic.
Nah I went with an i5 and kept it for 6 years. An i7 just wasn't worth spending money on to upgrade to.
Same here. When we upgraded my son's 4690K a 1500X+B350 was not much more than a used 4790K. DDR4 prices had spiked badly, but selling the old parts took up the slack.

My X99 with Haswell EP is still in service, though I need to troubleshoot some Linux software issue...at least I am pretty sure that is the problem. But yeah cheap 2011v3 Xeons are nice still.

Yup, used my X99+5820k from launch 2014 until I upgraded to the 7800X3D in 2023, where I sold it so a colleague could use it for his kids to play minecraft etc. So it is still in use.

My MO nowadays is to wait till a socket deadends and then pick up the best gaming hardware I can buy on the socket used for as little as possible.

My main box CPU/Mobo/RAM was something like $415 bucks in 2022 which I wouldn't consider too shabby.

Then you just hold onto it until it depreciates to essentially nothing, and then build anew on the next dead end platform (AM5 probably for me, the X800x3d or whatever they end up calling it).

>>I don't think AM5 will surpass it. But I would not wager on it.

I haven't even considered going the AM5 route yet, because the processors I see appear to be way overpriced for the performance, compared to AM4 processors. I mean, I can get pretty decent AM4 processors for $90 to $100, and a processor with similar performance on AM5 costs $170. Why would I "upgrade" ?

This is exactly why AM4 will remain the budget option for a while to come. Though Alder Lake Intel 12th Gen parts get a nod if you can find them at the right price.

I usually unload my last gen parts at very reasonable prices on this forum so I know there's at least a half dozen users out there who are quite happy with my old 5800X, 7800X3D, 7700X, etc.

I don't want to hurt "feelings" but this is ...... ".............", ".............."......., """""""""", """""""""""", ........."....

I just want some kind of recent generation with dual x3d cache on both, dual chiplet kind of things...

Don't want to hurt anyone besides the Manu!!!

Please give us a 9950x x3d dual chiplet design that is not threadripper or epyc. I don't want or need extra connections.. Just more cpu / compute!?

Then AMD should give us 16 cores on single V-cache CCD, even if it's 8 Zen 5 and 8 Zen 5c cores. This multiple CCD crap should only be tolerated by heavy multicore users like the server/workstation crowd.
Meh, AM4 gave more than anyone expected. 16 core CPUs in the mainstream, and vcache cpus for gamers. All this other talk is for other threads.

Yeah, I was referring to AM5 since @Thunder 57 linked to his Zen 5 thread post.

HOWEVER, maybe AMD should seriously look into a 8 year anniversary AM4 shrink or backport 😛

My mistake. I read the post above mine mentioning a 9950X dual cache chip and didn't realize this was the wrong thread.

Adding 2 more quick disconnects. Rigid tube is for the birds unless you are making money from it. No doubt beautiful builds.

But for a post standpoint. Yea. 2 more soft tubes and I should be good till I can't use a mouse anymore.

Whelp, discovered that for about or more than a year I ran the GPU connected to 2 output ports on the AMS radiators. Must've just run it backwards through those two rads IDK.

So a bunch of redoing and trying to make minimal changes as to not have to take out more rigid line. 😆

Leak test overnight. Should I go half into green?

Broke a bit power 90 rotary. 😫

That is a beast!

^^^ Preparations make me wonder if DaaQ has confused the 9800X3D with a 256 core Epyc 😀
Correct. I thought I was in the Ryzen 5 gen thread 🤦‍♂️it is a 9800x3d.

Wow.what happens when you're stuck with mobile only and sober 😀.

@DAPUNISHER possible to move to correct thread? Lol I'm so sorry. I seen Ryzen 5 and was tired and no reading glasses on LMAO.
