Had some issues with installing windows (just did a fresh download with ms creation tool and it worked) My fault for thinking I could re use my old W10 USB from many years ago.

Case is arriving tomorrow, so everything is just sitting on the mobo case. Already took out the 1080 Ti from the Z97. A very smooth build so far!

I do miss my error code LED display that my Z97 has, and a dedicated power switch. Not a fan of the screwdriver power on method.

I am wondering if I should send back my RAM for a more compatible kit, although not sure if 64gb is possible at much higher speeds. I definitely need to do some more research.

edit: 1st time the mobo did a post, had to take a pic 8C8F1F71-8981-476E-ABFD-ECFCFCC90920.jpeg

I feel like a ramdisk would have a very precise use case these days. Especially as modern Windows is pretty darn good at caching in ram what it needs anyway. Would think it would have some pretty insane random read times though

My friend and I use RAMDisk for CheatEngine as a scratch drive since it is insanely write/read intensive. Saves us a ton of time to find values. I also use it for Kerbal Space Program since that really helped loading times on my old system. 32GB is barely enough!

Just curious. Doesn't CheatEngine search the game/application memory for values? Why is it writing intensively to files on storage media?

When scanning for values, CheatEngine will use a temporary directory to store the values. The user can set this up in settings.

Some scans are many gigabytes worth of data, and even on my old i7, the bottleneck would be the SSD. Task manager would show an SSD at 100% usage until the scan is over.

But since we started using 12-20GB RAMDisks, our scanning speed is exponentially faster; and it even allows us to search for values that we would have deemed too time consuming before.

Unfortunately it seems im a bigger idiot than that and i shouldve gone with the simplest fix: i opened up my case and tightened down on each bracket screw for the HS mount as snug as i could. Two were snug but not quite finger tight.

Fired it up and it idled at 30-40 deg C at desktop. Thats better. Fired up a game and did some trial runs while monitoring the cpu temp and temps spiked to low 70s with averages in low 60s. Fan speed used to be 100% even when it was sitting at desktop, now its barely noticeable.

I think I'll still put the new 360 mm cooler on for future use and sell both the h100i and the MSI cooler. The h100i is like 6 years old so whatever, the MSI i used for like 2 months.

Man im dumb.
Thought I'd follow up on this, corsair h150i capellix came and installed pretty easy. Only had room to top-mount like the previous h100. Not a huge fan of their "control" module but whatever.

Temps under idle/desktop are in 30-40 deg range, during gaming it hits same setting as before (boosting 4.2-4.4 GHz at up to 1.4-1.5 Vcore) and sits 50-63 deg C. Pretty decent improvement conpared to what i had before. Also exhaust air is decently warm on the new setup, whereas before it seemed ambient or even cool...so the heat dissipation is much improved. Overall pretty happy with the new setup.

Dunno if it's in your budget, but you're a prime candidate for a 5800X3D. Wait til after August to shop for one, though.

I ended up grabbing a 5800x. Very pleased...I like to upgrade, so no harm lol. The ID-COOLING SE-226-XT seems to be working well.. mid 30's idle... gaming puts it up in the mid-60's..or depending on the game, in the lower 70's, which from my research shows me, this is excellent for air cooling. I was worried about the 5800x based on all the "omg my temperatures" posts , articles, etc...
Should be set for years.

I have been on the fence for way too long with the Zen 3 CPU upgrade. I see the writing on the wall for Zen 3. I read reviews for the 5700x and other Zen 3 cpu's. All the recent reviews say go for the 5600 or 5600x instead of the higher core count. I need a CPU because my Ryzen test system circa 2017 has a R3 1200 in it. It was built from the ground up with water cooling and B-Die ram sticks. It will inherit my 3600 and this signature build will sport a standard Ryzen 5600.

Did I spend too much for the 5600? $159.99 + tax...

I am sure if I waited for the summer deals they would have bundles with motherboards. I just think Zen 3 is pretty much dead, still works great but Zen4 is the way to go.

Zen 3 may be "dead" but if you upgraded now.. doesn't mean its a worthless platform. Most of us upgrade to cure the "upgrade itch" anyway.. is there really a "need" to go Ryzen AM5 platform, if you are running a 5600x, 5700x, or more?

Amazon and Newegg are getting $200 or more, so I'd say you got a good deal. Sure Zen 4 is coming, but it won't be cheap for a good while. You should be happy with your purchase!

I have more options now with my B350 Gaming Pro Carbon board. I have a 5600 coming for my B450 board. My 3600 goes to the M350 Gaming Pro Carbon. If AMD has fire sale pricing on CPU's closer to Zen 4 launch. I may put the 5600 (on the way) into the B350.

Well I loaded it up and it seems they fixed the issues with memory @ 3733mhz and 3800mhz on the B350/x370 motherboards.

Not sure how many people have beaten this point to death yet, but:

AM4 is probably the best bang/buck socket in PC history. Or at least one of the best. A solid x370 board could be running DDR4-3800 today with tight timings, possibly with nothing more-expensive than Micron e-die (or some old Samsung b-die). Cheers AM4 junkies!

People on reddit have gone from 1700X to 5800X3D. I guess you are correct in saying that this many generations skipping on the same mobo has never been possible in history before and may never again be possible. Mobo makers are surely not happy about the loss of sales.

The 5800X3D is not a good investment with Zen 4 around the corner. If they sold it for $250, different story. I would say a 5600, 5600X, 5700x is the only thing people should upgrade to. The 5900x when it's in the mid to low $300's somewhere for content creators. Others would argue 5950x for any video editing or encoding.

I should point out that my B350 Carbon Gaming Pro is the flagship of the B350 boards. Top of the line and the same in every way to the X370 Gaming Pro Carbon minus the chipset. MSI has been great because my board could run every memory stick in the beginning with no issues. When I went past 3600mhz, it would run 3733mhz and I would get weird crashes and restarts without blue screens. At 3800mhz it would boot and usually crash withing a few minutes. The new Agesa 1.2.0.7 seems to have solved all the memory issues up to 3800mhz. That should have been fixed several years ago.

The B-450/X-470 boards has no issues with memory timings up to 3800mhz. I have said for years flip a coin between MSI and Asus. They are both excellent on AMD and have been great for me for a couple of decades on Intel.

I am the guy who told people to buy the Hynix CRJ 3600mhz kits and call it a day 2 years ago. Credit to DrMrLordX for pointing me to the E-die (e-revision) Micron sticks. The CRJ sticks do 16-20-20-20 @3800mhz 1.37v all day. Some of these memory OC'ers think that running memory @ 1.5v to start is the way. I am not one of those type of Oc'ers. My E-die sticks are @ 1.42v.

I put my very early B-die sticks back in the drawer. Mostly because they were 4GB modules 2x4GB. They could run 14-15-15 but they crapped out just below 3600mhz. So I went with my CRJ 16GB 2x8GB 3600mhz kit.

It's still a relatively-cheap way to set up an elite gaming rig using last-gen hardware. DDR4 on AM4 + 5800X3D is going to be a lot cheaper than Zen4, and it remains to be seen what benefit there is to Zen4 in games. I suspect there will be some improvement, but it won't be a huge boost. In nearly everything else? Sure.

To add... "elite gaming rig...." that if you are someone that doesn't always have the "hardware / upgrade itch".. then you could potentially use this beast of the AM4 system to ride out the entire AM5 platform's life. (or at least wait till the end of AM5 and build your next beast rig off AM5 at EOL). As with most 1st gen revisions of new platforms, it is going to be buggy.. DDR5 is expensive as hell.. and currently offers no improvement over some good quality DDR4.

I don't think the upgraders make much of a dent in earnings from mobos, they are not numerous in the big picture. I think they're more motivated by not having to do testing and updating for several years beyond release.

Alright, last post from me on the Ryzen 5000 thread. The Zen 3 chips seem to run 3-5C warmer than Zen 2 doing basic desktop work. Idle is warmer than Zen 2 by 5C. This one tops out at 65-68C while gaming. Maybe 2-3C higher than Zen 2. Not a big deal at all. I like that they included a cooler in the 5600. It makes a nice paperweight or decoration when I need it. 3600 vs 5600 +600mhz on the core between the two for me. My 3600 was 1.4v @4.2ghz and the 5600 is 1.375v @4.8ghz. This should last me at least a year until I put together a Zen 4 machine. Next upgrade is the graphics card.
