Sooo... the difference between my ex 4650G and the new 5700G are really good. And bad, also :)

The good part is ... well ... performance. I get 30-50% more fps in World of Warships that I play regularly. The PC seems a bit faster even though it was already plenty fast with 3 M2 I got inside my case. It is snappier. My work software (Studio One DAW) is really liking the extra cores and the better IPC and cache, there I can definitely feel them put to use. Aaaand there starts the bad part. Unfortunately my fanless case was perfect with 4650G but with this one, not so much. It heats up to 90 degrees C (194 F) when playing and I don't quite feel confortable like that. It can't disipate heat fast enough. On the sticker they say the case can accept up to 87W CPU, but better stick with 65W. And in theory 5700G is a 65W CPU, in practice I saw spikes of 117W displayed on Open Hardware Monitor. Are there problems to worry in the future or is it ok to let it be like that? How's that gonna affect my M2's?

It sounds like your board is using its own aggressive settings that exceed the stock AMD limits.
The first thing I do with all of my Zen 3 based systems is go into the UEFI and set it to ECO mode with a +200MHz for the PBO. Better than stock performance with less power and heat.

Ok, I have followed what this guy says here and it did lower my temps.

Before that I had reached 95° C and it throttled. Now after over 1h of gamimg I get this. I did what he said with PBO and Curve Optimiser and I did that to the GPU also, still in process. The CPU curve offset I could get for now is -20 and for GPU -7. Still trying to go lower to see if the system is stable.

The ForceMP510 is on the back of the MB, the CT is next to the CPU (that's why the highest heat) and the HP is in the PCI express slot in an adapter wwith a radiator, so maybe that's why it's the coolest. The motherboard is a Gigabyte B550i Aorus Pro AX

Those SSD temps aren't terrible, though it's going to vary from device to device. Your NAND likes to run hot, but the controllers generally want to be cool. But if you are producing less heat from your CPU then that's a good idea overall, especially if you've managed it with a PBO undervolt.

I didn't expect the GPU to consume that much. 50-70W? Next week I'll start working with it again and see how it impacts my work. I was worried that the high temps might reduce the lifespan of the M2's

My 3090TI takes 450 watt default, I turn it down to 350.

I bet. But the case is small, 6 liters. Underneath the MB there is no space, the one near the CPU already has a metal cooler, it came with the motherboard and the one in pte PCI Express slot is inserted in one of these: https://www.axagon.eu/en/produkty/pcem2-s

So I can't do anything for them, except lowering the temps from the CPU/GPU
how about this ? $10 and there is a low form factor for $7

Prices for AMD 5000 series are really starting to come down in Australia atm. I am watching a Youtuber atm who mentioned that price changes seem to be happening in most countries but not the US. It's a shame the 5800x3d is in such demand due to crappy price of 7000 series. Screenshot 2022-10-31 194103.png

I haven't watched Bryan's vid yet. But prices are coming down in the U.S. The 5800X 3D sold out everywhere it was listed for $329-$339

Most of the other Ryzens have seen price drops lately too. 5600 $130. 5500 $99. 5700X $200. 5800X $225. All with the Uncharted games bundle. To name a few. None of them are consistent however. Prices fluctuate, sometimes daily.

Yep it was Brayan's Wheres Wally Video I was talking about. It does seem like a great time to build a new system. Something like the 5600/5600x seems extremely good value. :p Shame the 7000 series has not seen a price cut as well. I was originally going to upgrade to the 7700x but it really doesn't seem worth it atm. I am mostly just limited by single core performance so.......its almost tempting to buy a 5600x for the price of selling my 3700x and just wait for 6 months to see what happens.

That's exactly the upgrade I just did for one system. Like new retail 5600X from our for sale/for trade forum here for $115, replacing a 3700X. For my use it is observably faster while running on less power. My 3700X is not a silicon lottery winner by any means.

Ooooooh that does make it very tempting. It would also give me something new to play with for free.

The only thing that would make the 5800x3D appealing today. If they had versions that could clock up to 5.2-5.3ghz without gimping the voltage for the processors because of the v-cache voltage limit. The 13600k makes the 5800x3D kind of pointless. If the 5800x3D were $200 or less, very different story. AMD would be going back to their value play or best bang for the buck image. That is where AMD was really good. During the early Zen days and up to Zen2. You got a lot of computing power for the money.

5800X 3D has sold out everywhere it has been listed for $329-$339. All those thousands and thousands of buyers disagree with you, and so do I. And I think you may be lost. This is the 5000 builders thread. If we wanted to talk about doing a 13600k build we'd be in the Raptor builders thread. ;)

I'm probably going to build a system with a Ryzen 5500 by end of year, but would use a 5600 if anybody runs a price special of $115 or less. I just recently saw it for $120, but held out for lower for Black Friday or Christmas sales.

Have you considered getting psychiatric help? You're way too concerned over $5. ;) In all seriousness I get trying to find the best deal and all. But it's $5! That's 1% of a $500 build.

Ok, but in quite some situations R5 7600X or R7 7700X is faster vs R7 58003XD in gaming.

- Hardware Unboxed test: Hitman 3, Spiderman Remastered, Horizon Zero dawn, Cyberpunk 2077, CS.GO

But in general, yes red+long-lived old AM4 still is great combination for gaming.
