I know I am taking my time, but this is taking longer than I thought. I hooked up all the front panel connections to the mother board, all the case fans to the Nexus+ fan hub, all the power cables and the 3.5" drives (with brackets) and the video card. Then I did all the wire management. The only thing left would be the data cables. Since it has an M.2 SSD, It's ready to fire up. *crosses fingers* Maybe tomorrow!

I am hoping to build my 5950x rig next weekend and I’ll be using the NH-D15S from my current rig. Anxious to hear how your temps turn out.

Looks like I'm having some USB issues. There's a new BIOS version (UEFI) for my Asus motherboard that is a fix, but it is in beta. Also, working on a network share issue dealing with Windows 10 being able to see Windows 7 PCs on the network.

Anyone have an easy fix for Win10 not seeing Win7 on the network? It has something to do with Win10 not supporting SMB v1.

Also, is there settings in Win10 to improve their awful start menu or is a 3rd party the way to go like Win8.1?

When you say not seeing windows 7 are you talking about fileshares?

And yes SMB 1 shouldn't be used anymore.

I'm running Windows 7 on my home server. I had mapped drives on my main rig (Win7) prior to the new build. Any way to do this easily or should I just upgrade the other computers to Win10?

This link should cover everything

I think you will just need to re-enable SMB 1.0 on the windows 10 machine as its turned off by default.

No troubles with USB after flashing new bios. No disconnects and super fast transfer speeds. No luck on the sharing on the network yet. I was able to browse my file server through Asus AiCloud, but not through the new rig. I then did a total reset on my router and reentered my settings. At some point, I saw the server name n the network locations. I was then able to map the server drives to my main rig.

I needed more storage for my 5900x rig so I looked around today and found this listed for $250 locally. Brand new and sealed.

WD RED SA500_4TB.jpg

It looks to get mediocre reviews and most likely wouldn't be my 1st choice at MSRP, but for the price I'm sure I'll get over it.

Nice find! I paid over $400 back in December for a 4tB NVME drive to use as storage.

I've finally got my desktop the way I like it. I made custom icons for the This PC (formally Computer) shortcut and the Recycle bin. That took quite some time to do. I feel like I've wasted a few days on that. I seem to forget how many years of customization takes to recreate. The This PC icon is the actual case I'm using, the Fractal Design Define 7. It's my third main rig that I've done this with. The first being a Antec P183 case and the last one being a Antec P280 case. My Photoshop skills are a little rusty.

Since my last update, I've added a SATA III 5-port controller card (workstation motherboard only had 4 SATA ports) and a 2TB Sabrent Rocket Q 2TB NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 Internal SSD. Both installed without a hitch. Going to use the Sabrent SSD for games. Does anyone think I need a heatsink for the Sabrent? The motherboard has a heatsink for the 980 Pro, but not for the 2nd M.2 slot.

What about asrock b450/x470? When amd sam will be added to the asrok. Or maybe there is some beta bios
Resizeable BAR support was added to ASRock B450/M Pro4 lineup with AGESA 1.2.0.0 on 3/18/2021, which is usually one of the last to get features. So I'd imagine most of the B450/X470 lineup now have it.

On another note, 1.2.0.0 allows stable operation of DDR4-4000 and IF at 2000, which is nice. Now I have to go through and tune it all again!

Good to know about that improvement of 1.2.0.0. Also, an update here for my system, I am currently RMAing the 5900X. Dropped it off to ship to AMD yesterday afternoon. Reason was it was getting occasional random WHEA errors, event ID 18 and BSODs with the bugcheck 124. This was all stock, not even XMP loaded. So I am back on the 5800X for now.
