Interesting. I am looking forward to getting my 5900X in from preorder. Though I mainly care about game performance, so I figure whatever gives me the best sustained boosts?

Are you upgrading the machine in your sig or this is for another computer?

I Just joined the Zen 3 club picked up a 5800X for $650 CAD this morning. Going to sell my 3800X for $400 so cost of the upgrade will be $250

Congrats on the 5800X. At launch, I was on the fence between the 5900X and 5800X. By the time reviews had been read, there were no 5900X available. So I settled for a 5800X for now, when I finally get the 5900X I will sell the 5800X to a friend.

Cool I haven't seen stock anywhere for the 5900X or 5950X in Canada so far. Only the 5600X and 5800X show up and disappear quickly.

Yeah I was able to pre order the 5900X very recently on shopblt, with ETA of 1/29. So I will find out soon if it will be delayed or not.

So, I have my 5950x finally. I replaced my 5800x with it. Is there a definitive tuning guide for curve optimizer anywhere? I haven’t gone through all 34 pages of this thread yet.

There's a guide written by someone somewhere in this thread. I don't recall what page, though. It's a step-by-step and pretty thorough.

How are the CPU package temperatures during full load on your 5950x compared to your 5800x? I bought a 5800x 2 weeks ago and it's hitting 84C in Cinebench R20, R11.5, and OCCT (5-minute run) and usually 65-72C during gaming. It idles at around 33-34C and this is with the default CPU power management settings in the BIOS and Windows set to HIgh Performance power plan. I'm thinking that those CPU temps during Cinebench are too high for that CPU but I could be wrong. I'm using a Noctua U12A cooler on my CPU with the stock thermal paste.

Is that the Noctua thermal paste ?
Or the stuff AMD gave with the purchase ?

The Noctua paste - it's Ok.

I use Artic Silver 5.
( for ... years ... since it came out )
Beware of Artic Silver 3 - it's contents separate inside it's tube over time.

I never use the white paste stuff

It's the stock Noctua paste that came with my Noctua U12A. The 5800x does not come with thermal paste or a CPU cooler.

You might get 4 applications from the Noctua tube supplied.
( not much in those long skinny tubes )

Highly recommend a couple tubes of AC5.
( running out of thermal paste is never a good moment )

You might want to let some others give suggestions ..
... my favorite AC5 .. might be outdated now

Artic Silver 5
( not the same company as " Artic " )

So here is where I am hardware wise:

ASUS Prime Pro x570, Bios 3402 AGESA 1.2.0.0
5950X
Crucial Ballistix RGB 3600 MHz DDR4 DRAM Desktop Gaming Memory Kit 32GB (16GBx2) CL16 BL2K16G36C16U4WL (White) Run at DOCP
Arctic Freezer II 360MM Radiator. (MX4 Thermal Compound)
2TB HP EX950
EVGA RTX 3080 XC3 Ultra
Corsair RM850x PSU, White
Metallic Gear Neo Qube, White

Bios is currently set to DOCP, and all PBO settings are set to auto.

With fan profile set at high, OCCT running for 15 minutes, my CPU package temps are MIN39C MAX64C Current58C. All core turbo appears to be locked in at 4525 at default setting.

Will probably play some more after work.

I just scored Ryzen 5 5600X for my son. It will replace my first Ryzen CPU I bought, a trusty Ryzen 7 1700 which now will go to my home server.
I think 5600X will give my boy a few extra frames over his current CPU :)
Should arrive on Saturday, so busy weekend rebuilding 2 PC's in one go.

PS. Bought in UK where there is plenty of 5600X and 5800X, everything else is MIA.

Interesting so on my board when I was on Zen 2 that Fmax option would boost my scores however with Zen 3 my scores are lower with it on. If I leave that set to auto I get higher scores in the Cpu Z Bench. Will have alot to test tonight.

Fmax on single score of like 620-630 with it off 660-670

On multi 6300 to 6600 with it off.

But looking good so far hitting 4.85Ghz boost with every just set to auto and no tweaking so far. Just D.O.C.P for memory and not a Ryzen dram fast profile yet.

Asus specifies that feature does not work with Zen 3.

That shopblt preorder isn't coming anytime soon. They are allowing 50 units per customer of both Zen 3 and Ampere...not sure what the game is since they don't even charge before shipment so it's not like they can count it as revenue accrued...

This was about the curve optimizer scaling..
There is a upto ~650mhz difference between stock (PBO) settings and CO @ -30 at the same temperature.
At -15 CO the difference is upto ~500mhz compared to stock

--> diminishing returns with curve optimizer.

Did you already know that ? I found it interesting at least.
Know what? That someone at reddit with 5900X draw a nice graph that compares his CPU at stock with PBO tuned? Then what it has to do with CO scaling? Actually I'm glad you find it interesting, but have to note that it was not about CO scaling but PBO2 tuning, where using CO at least implies substantial increase of PBO limits. Here is what my "CB R23 MT curve" :) looks like, for example, for working temp. range 68-75°C:

CPU at 24/7 settings and CO is basically -15 ( its per core tuned indeed):
table.png

For "PBO auto" I choose not to run a bunch of tests, since they mostly following the common pattern. Comparing fully stock CPU with PBO2 tuned is uselees, since CPU Fmax limited to 4650 and always hit the PPT limit of 78W.
You may see some 80-100Mhz bump for 73°С for the tuned CO, 375Mhz boost override and etc. So, yes, "free" performance is nice but nothing outstanding or unexpectable.

Lazy me has just set the PBO to + 175 Mhz on my 5800x/ASUS x570 and tweaked the RAM timings a bit, I am getting old and cannot be arsed with all the hours of tweaking for a couple of extra % performance.
Turns out I spoke too soon, my timespy cpu score is atrocious and per this thread it's all in the RAM timings. Need to do some tuning..

Have you verified you are 1:1 ratio with your DDR setting ?
You will need to post more info.
Attach memory tab info from CPU-Z. Ok?
Your going to want to use IF1900 - if possible

Well I got tired of waiting for my 5950x order

bh photo 5950x order.JPG

I used paypal so I already fully paid for it. B&H sent out a recent update that merchants, which includes them, won't likely get stock until July for this chip. I just replied I'll continue to wait for now. Still I saw AMD direct had the 5600x and 5800x for sale yesterday. Snag one of each before they instantly sold out again. I'll probably let me wife use the 5600x for now and I'll use the 5800x. When the 5950x comes in I'll pass the 5800x to the wife and do something with the 1700x, 5600x, and 3950x at some point.
