Boom!

New Ryzen CPUs for AM4 may be back on the menu as AMD considers reintroducing select SKUs:

McAfee stated that AMD "[is] certainly looking at everything that [it] can do to bring more supply and kind of reintroduce products back into the [AM4] ecosystem to satisfy the demands of gamers that maybe want that significant upgrade in their AM4 platform without having to rebuild their entire system", further adding that he thinks this is "definitely something [AMD is] very actively working on."

If they talk of gamers that means X3D CPUs because otherwise the 5800/5800XT/5700G would be enough for non specificaly gaming usages upgarades.

That's the problem. Reviving the 5800X3D would mean it would have to be anything but short term.
One full year sales would be enough, they have the dies and IOD in current production and is dirt cheap, why bother to validate a hybrid solution with a non V-cache Zen 4, the 5800X3D cost nothing to get back on production, read again what AMD stated :

We are certainly looking at everything that we can do to bring more supply and kind of reintroduce products back into the [AM4] ecosystem to satisfy the demands of gamers that maybe want that significant upgrade in their AM4 platform without having to rebuild their entire system. [...] Definitely something [AMD is] very actively working on.

It s obvious that they are not talking of new products but of old ones who had been discontinued.

The amount of demand right now for AM4 x3d chips is crazy. AliExpress making a killing while US retailers are left out. I’m kicking myself for not buying one back when Microcenter was giving them away for $180 in 2024…but I didn’t *need* one then. I just bought the 5800xt for the same price last week.

Yes, it’s 2026 and here I am about to build an AM4 rig.

Yes indeed. X3D is not only competitive with the latest platforms, for gaming, it is more forgiving of slow ram. LGA 1700 takes a big performance hit with DDR4. I picked up a 12600kf DDR4 4000MT/s combo here on our forums recently for a great price. It is a good gamer, and I have no complaints. However, looking at how much it would cost to buy new (no MC near me) I would not seriously consider it. I'd be building AMD 5000, same as you.

Right on. AM4Life 🍷:p

Revisit is up. TLDW = The Ryzen branch prediction optimizations in windows and chonker cache created AMD rare vintage :wineglass:. But vanilla 5000 is getting the job done over 5 years later, and will drive the vid cards reasonable to pair them with. If you bought 5000 when prices were dirt cheap, you are the real winner. $115 tray 5700X3D from AliExpress was the CPU deal of the decade for anyone not near a MicroCenter. Even at $180ish on Amazon, it was a great buy.

Summary: Nothing has changed since the last revisit.

Personally? I'd buy a single 16GB stick of DDR5 5600 for $175 and build AM5. If I could not find a killer deal on used DDR4.

Side note: He thought for a hot second his 14600k degraded, but it was the 7200 ram kit. I'd prefer it was the CPU right now LOL. The expert kit I bought for $90 is currently $440 from the vendor. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C4NM8NMC

9950X and 9850X3D are the same price. Which one would you choose? Assume that you do not "need" either of them. :D

When I put together my upgrade order in Oct 2025, I mistakenly ordered 2 64GB ddr4 kit. And I returned the extra kit. I check the price today, I would have gotten the CPU and cooler free if I kept the extra memory kit and sold it now.

9950X easily. But then again I don't have any games after 2020. I did play Doom TDA but that was on Gamepass which I no longer have. Waiting on a Steam sale to get that as I just missed out on the Winter sale.
