Has AMD commented about availability of the new 5000 series processors? Should it be better than the last time?

Here in Czechia at launch only 1 retailer had them in stock, 5950X and 5900X went quickly, 5800X and 5600X held a little bit longer but in about half an hour all were gone. None to be seen anywhere now.

P.S. My youngest son has a 9900K, which is basically a halo chip for his Z390 motherboard, and thank goodness for that; I'm tired of installing CPUs!

haha, yes! He'll just have to make due with that, right?

I received a 8700k here over the weekend which my son is getting. He has a b365 board which won't really let this CPU breathe with more than 2666mhz ram and probably has weaker power delivery systems, but is it worth all the hassle? I keep telling my self no. He has a mATX case and z370/Z390 boards in mATX are worth a *mint* right now on eBay. So I'd have to trade the case out and now we are replacing the CPU, board and case? WHAT AM I EVEN CONSIDERING?!? ha.

So I think I'll just install the CPU. Poor dude.

I built the Z390 system with a 9400F and 32GB of XMP Kingston 2666Mhz I had left over from my 5820K upgrade to my current B550 system. Basically threw together a cheap system for him to do Online school through COVID. Micro Center had a $300 fire sale on the 9900K at some point, which was a nice upgrade and I figure will last him a few years. For gaming, it's pretty close to my rig when paired with a RTX 3080.

I got my 5950X, my oldest son got my 5800X , my step-son got his 5600X, my file server got his 3700X, and my 3600 is going up for sale soon. :D

To your point, I got the 5800X on black friday last year when any and all 5000 series were next to impossible to find. If I didn't have other systems to upgrade, I'd be all "Got my 5950X, need to sell this 5800X" as well.

Lies, one can never be tired of installing CPU's, because then one would be dead :p

Is it just me or does it seem like availability of the 5950x is improving? I'm seeing them come up more frequently in stock and was able to snag one for myself last week. Might just be coincidence that I was paying attention to my in stock alerts more closely, or perhaps supply/demand is very slowly equalizing...

5950X is easy to get locally at Overland Park Micro Center. Stock just went to 25 yesterday and only one CPU has been sold today so far (current stock of 24). So yes, I think demand is being met currently, as they are staying in stock for weeks at a time now.

Man, you guys are right, there are cheap (comparatively speaking) 5800x floating on the used market here too. I briefly entertained idea of upgrading my wife's 3700x to 5800x, unfortunately 3700x aren't fetching much used, it would take me more than $100 to upgrade from 3700x to 5800x and I just don't think it's worth it. Great deal for someone who has an older system and wants fastest 8c16t CPU though.

I keep seeing the 5800x for $419 retail at the usual reputable places and the only retailer with the 5950x in stock at retail continues to be MC in store only.

Looks like Microcenter enabled in store pickup option for AMD's newest offerings. Not sure how long they'll keep it active? Hopefully it's permanent.

I would guess that means there is a 20+ day inventory at the main warehouse; I can ask in the MC Discord chat, there are employee's there.

Being in store only makes it hard for scalpers to snatch up all the stock. Honestly, no retailer has managed to sell these chips properly online yet at this point. If I had the financial resources to buy a bunch of CPUs/GPUs, I would definitely roll out a store that stops scalpers and bots and allows legit purchases.

Try “each store”. I have been to 3 and all 3 had 20+ in stock. I bought one.

I just checked the Marietta stock level and its dropped to 6 for the 5950x so somebody is buying them. I almost set sail there early this morning but changed my mind as its a 5 hour ride each way.

My monitor started going out and since I'm not made of money I had to choose between replacing it or the cpu so I cancelled my order and spent the money on a new monitor instead. Maybe in the future I'll be able to get one.

Curiosity, is there a way to tell when your chip was made based on the serial number or other info? I picked up another 5800x from Amazon for $397, but I'm curious if it's newer than my other 5800x and 5950x. Not that it matters, but I like to be educated and I'd love to learn more.

It will have the year and week of production laser scribed on the IHS. This link explains how to read it though the batch number prefix I believe is different for Zen3.

Thanks, that is exactly what I needed! I asked because I noticed the new 5800x had a copyright of 2020 on the CPU. Depending on how they do their copyright, it could mean it was produced in 2020 and not 2021, which would surprise me. We update our copyright based on the year, but I'm not sure how CPU manufactures work. So I'm curious if this is when this was produced. I appreciate the link and info!

Yeah the copyright years on CPUs have never reflected production dates...
