Question AMD Ryzen 5000 - AVAILABILITY

Has AMD commented about availability of the new 5000 series processors? Should it be better than the last time?

Here in Czechia at launch only 1 retailer had them in stock, 5950X and 5900X went quickly, 5800X and 5600X held a little bit longer but in about half an hour all were gone. None to be seen anywhere now.

This is the first time I see the 5950X below the MSRP of € 810,67
Especially the 5800X is now €67 below the MSRP of € 455,56

(The € MSRP are comparable with the $ MSRP)

There is no way of knowing what those two guys decided to get. They could have gone for 11th gen. Back in the day before the chip shortage my local Microcenter used to have steady supply of open box CPUs, both Intel and AMD alike. In fact that's how I got my 3700X for around $270 shortly after release and 3900X for $425 which is less than what they're going now on eBay a year later.

I'm not going to list ANY specific auctions or even hint at one by mentioning the prices for auctions that are still outstanding, but I think I saw a 5800x sell for $170??? And there were two of them before the auction went away?

The only CPU holding its price is 5900x, which sells for about as much as a 5950x on eBay right now.

It looks like the new availability of Vermeer CPUs is forcing the scalpers to dump inventory. They're cutting their losses. Used and even new-in-box Vermeer CPUs are going for insane prices right now.

I sell my used items locally on OfferUp and haven't had any issues yet. I just pad my price a little as everybody likes to haggle in the end.

I think most people use the apps these days. OfferUp works best for me in my local area. I haven't really posted anything on Craigslist lately, but look from time to time to see if there's anything interesting to me.

Honestly I didn't think to look until after the auction was gone. But I was seeing price action at $300, not $400, for the 5800x. At least half a dozen at that price level. There were 5600x CPUs going for ~$220. It was nuts. Prices were dropping like Bitcoin.

You can look at just recently sold items to check what the going rates are. It looks like prices have continued to fall a bit and now a 5800x goes for between $350 to $400. There are a few cheaper ones sprinkled in, but they are from accounts with very little or no feedback which means they are most likely scams. There have been a ton of scammers pushing cheap fake Zen 3 listings to take advantage of the crazy demand. It's not as bad as the GPU side, but there's still quite a bit of them. The 5600x is going for below MSRP as well. The 5900x and 5950x are still going for above retail, but not by as nearly as much as they were and not enough for someone trying to flip them after a retail purchase to make much of a profit. Hopefully in the next few weeks they'll all be readily available without having to pay over MSRP.

My experience locally is the 5900X is the only CPU selling out quickly. 5600X and 5800X have been in stock for months now. 5950X stays in stock pretty regularly over the last month or so, probably because it's simply pretty expensive.

I got tired of waiting for a 5900x and picked up a 5950x instead. Zero stock everywhere except fleabay and Amazon scalpers and zero luck on newegg's daily shuffle. Not exactly what I wanted but MicroCenter had the 5950x in stock today at Tustin so I made the trip out.

As long as you have good mobo compatibility I'd go with a 5000 series chip if bothering to upgrade. A 3600 is hovering around its original MSRP of $200 up to $220 if in stock. At that price I'd just jump to a 5600 if you're itching to upgrade.

That's a really nice motherboard and you have plenty of RAM. Unless your budget can't stretch enough for the 5600X, I'd go with the 5600X.

I never thought I would buy more than the 5600x, but I've bought two 5800x's second hand now. Not at that great of pricing, of course, but I love second hand CPUs because they either work when you get them or they don't. Moving parts being zero is a huge plus.

Anyway, just encouraging deal shoppers to consider checking their local listings for what's likely a short term 5800x dump. It's a solid CPU, it might just take a tad more setting up than the others due to the wonk power settings they get out of the box.

No chance I would buy a new Zen 2 CPU now outside of some crazy deal. You can get decent money out of a Zen+ and get all the way to the final AM4 CPU iteration.

I got my 5950X, my oldest son got my 5800X , my step-son got his 5600X, my file server got his 3700X, and my 3600 is going up for sale soon.

To your point, I got the 5800X on black friday last year when any and all 5000 series were next to impossible to find. If I didn't have other systems to upgrade, I'd be all "Got my 5950X, need to sell this 5800X" as well.

P.S. My youngest son has a 9900K, which is basically a halo chip for his Z390 motherboard, and thank goodness for that; I'm tired of installing CPUs!

My wife got my 3600 and I put the 2700x back on the forums here for what I paid for it. I get plenty of solid deals, I hope that this helped put my deal karma back towards balanced!
