How do you confirm FCLK stability? Friend's new 3600X build has infrequent crashes in gaming. Temps good. Crucial Micron E-Die at XMP 3600 16-18-18-38, MSI B450 Gaming Plus MAX. Memtest passes with flying colors. No info in eventlog. My light reading and instinct says FCLK issue, voltage issue, or some core driver somewhere having a fit. Thinking We downclock to 3200 mem or play with voltages and see what happens but I'll need to help him with that.

I kept crashing randomly, it ended up being LLC settings. May wanna look into this as well. Oddly enough the higher mine were the more i crashed. My mobo defaulted to Auto which caused MANY crashes. Once i was set to normal not a damn crash yet. Its a odd fix but it worked at least for me.

From there i wouldn't know what to say, just going by recent experience.

Edit: read on others having issues with CSM and even XMP being trash with this board , i manually set memory and applied a 1.37v voltae then shut off CSM. Got my best Cinebench R20 yet which was 7100. Got 69 more then i did just using XMP here. Willing to bet its this stupid ass motherboard not playing nice with XMP, why even have this function if its gonna be this busted?

I assume its a XMP issue cause the score has never been this high, i could be wrong and crash again in a few days when i least expect it. Did another run of Cinebenchr20 and shot right up to 7161. Oh yeah i think it was the XMP profile causing all the crashing too. Prob a mix of LLC and XMP. I My best prior score was 7031 prior to the memory manually being set.

Might start overclocking my cpu this week, i just ordered 4 of these. Oh i had my doubts about these things cause of the noise but meh, i finally said heck with it. 2 in the front, one on the cooler then one in the rear.

Hmm, anyone ever have various settings in their bios just reset themselves? I had a 105w TDDP in place and oddly enough how it happened idk but the Bios reset a few settings just by itself. Went back to the stock 147w TDDP i guess. I been hitting 80cel and that seemed off from various reports assuming the 105w TDDP stayed in place.

Odd that it reset, i enabled a 126w TDDP as i remember some incredible clocks with such wattage. Looks like clocks are holding 3950mhz now. My room prob close to 85f.

Did you have a hard lock due to GPU drivers or memOC or anything like that?

Oh nothing but solid performance since you helped me on that LLC issue. Figured it out on the next post. Yeah its a weird issue involving TDDP. Gonna leave it stock for now.

This combination of parts is the strangest damn thing i ever put together, any adjustments besides stock auto TDDP results in a hang on reboot without post. I had to fidget with it a few times to post again. I heard this was a issue with AM4 so i thought it was a norm. This happened earlier this week, but didn't catch the reset i guess till yesteday and like before i guess for whatever reason the only setting that goes back to auto is TDDP. I just caught it resetting AGAIN So yeah, this 3900x is insistent on the auto or 145w TDDP. Fine by me, about to install 4 new fans anyways. Hoping i could at least overclock without it throwing a fit.

I just added 2 140mm 3,000 rpm Noctua fans in the front and one in the rear of this build. Gonna install one maybe on the cpu cooler as well, appears i can only fit a 120mm without going with something to rig it on there.

I need some flight simulator games and the simulation of a 727 is complete, but looks like the cores are boosting slightly higher and my room is hotter then Hades and yet i am only seeing at 76 cel as the highest temp. Hotter then its ever been this year, i had a fan hitting my face at max speed and i still had sweat rolling down my face but i wanted to get that number in for stress testing purposes.My previous highest temp was 80cel prior with default TDDP on the 3900x.

Almost every single time i reboot, i deal with a hang on post and the computer resetting quite a few times last few days.

Edit: may have been speed of kit, i adjusted it down to 3200mhz. Been not doing the same stuff as usual suddenly.

Is this reset bug a common issue? I seen reports of it, but almost guaranteed on a reboot it will hang, not post. Then reset a few times and post. Most times it just posts as normal after it has a fit but this time the bios resets completely. So tempted to wash my hands of this platform and hit Intel. I have distinctively had a issue EVERY single time i put anything AMD in my build, including now.
Not cool man. Like you, I've overclocked, and tweaked the sheet out of my rig, and I paid the price. I get hard-freezes occasionally every few weeks. Or the monitor fails to wake from sleep. Or the system starts bogging down for no good reason. I keep it under 100% load, 24/7, on the CPU, and both GPUs. Yeah, I'm mixing AMD and NV on the same PC, and the AMD card is an RX 5700 reference. Drivers are still working out the kinks.

But that's the price to pay for overclocking and tweaking. You can't just do it with impunity, and expect that everything will stay perfect, fine, what have you.

How many people that DON'T OC their AMD rig, from day one, but stick with stock. How many of THEM are having constant boot problems, etc.? Not many.

You want an Intel platform? Sure, push it to 5.4Ghz, at an untenable long-term voltage. Then get back to us after six months, how your system is failing to POST, how it's unstable, runs hot, etc.

Have some responsibility for your own actions.

And maybe run your next system bone-stock (except for XMP, and watch out for MCE and PL2).

Hoping i could at least overclock without it throwing a fit.

As I learned (the hard way), Zen2 / AM4 is not meant to be meaningfully manually OC'ed. Even PBO is basically a bust. (*)

(*) Edit: I'm actually going to walk that statement back. That original statement, was based on my initial-release R5 3600 CPU, which, although it would settle at ALMOST 4.0Ghz during an all-core load, at stock/auto settings (no PBO, just standard CPB), I could not, seemingly, stabilize it with a manual all-core OC to 4.00Ghz at any sane (below 1.40V) voltage. (With a PrimeGrid load.)

I just dropped in my newly-minted 3600 (fresh batch), and now I'm running, seemingly problem-free for a few hours, at 4.20Ghz all-core, CPB disabled, Trident RGB DDR4-3600 @ XMP 3600 (all DIMM slots filled), FCLK 1800, at 1.28125V fixed voltage. (I have no idea on LLC, if this board supports it, or what it is set to other than default. It's an Asus B450-F ROG STRIX Gaming ATX, that's been through a lot.) (Haven't tried PrimeGrid yet on these settings. Maybe I will after a full system backup.)

Um i left the computer 100% completely stock, i enabled XMP after another hang up. This time i just adjusted kit to 3200mhz .I left TDDP stock . LLC is at normal. I never overclocked nothing, decided not to bother. Never touched a single voltage, i prefer stability over sheer speed.

Honestly not sure how much more i could leave stock assuming adjusting my kit to 3200mhz doesn't help the situation.

Edit: rebooted twice more without a issue, yeah no more being stuck on reboots so it seems. May have been the speed of the kit, so it seems if the new behavior is anything to go on.

If the RAM that you're trying to use, is 3200 or 3600, and NOT on the QVL, then it can be very hit-or-miss if your board will POST reliably, especially if the BIOS doesn't have that model stick in the "RAM tables".

Then again, sometimes, boards and/or CPUs can act...differently.

I have this Gigabyte X370 Gaming board, with GSkill DDR4-3000 16GB kit RAM, and I'm running it just fine @ XMP in BIOS. Just peachy.

I sold a friend the same board, and the same model kit of RAM (it was my other kit),. and his board, after he enabled XMP after I showed him how, well, NO-GO. It beeps three times trying to init the RAM, does another boot / PSU, and beeps, and boots into Windows, but the DRAM frequency is reset to stock DDR4-2133 JEDEC.

Don't know whether it's the board, the RAM, or the CPU. He's using a 1200, I've got a 1600 in my board. That might be the difference, maybe there's a difference in silicon quality between the too, or he just "un-lucked out" on his stuff.

I felt bad, too, because I'm the one that hooked him up with the parts.

I've been trying to get a hold of him recently, to get him to do an overnight Memtest86, and if that fails, to get him another RAM kit. (I bought some 16GB Team Group kits. I would have had some 16GB GSkill kits too, but they turned out to be single 16GB DIMMs. Whoops!)

Well this board is supposed to work with these particular sticks at this speed, but i guess QVL means not guarantee. That is alright, it seems from what i gathered larger ram kits like mine prob do need to be lowered down to 3200mhz. Mark mentioned something about this to me, but i was dealing with the annoying LLC issue at that time which got resolved.

Yeah i stumbled for a while to make sure i picked the right kit, i knew coming into 3000 series it would be picky. I made absolute sure i got something that was working off the QVL list. The reboot issue was SUPER annoying, it would go on for quite a while. Desktop was solid as a rock.

I've joined Zen 2 club 2 days ago.
MSI MEG X570 Unify + Ryzen 5 3600 stock cooler (waiting for my custom loop to ship). I had my GSkill Tident Z (B-die) 3600 CL16 kit (4x8GB), Radeon VII and 2x1TB NVMe + 2x 4TB HDD left from my Threadripper rig.

After some tweaking I'm quite pleased with my Ryzen sample produced week 48 of 2019. I can run it stock where it boost CB20 all core load to 3900MHz and drops down to 3800MHz during the render using 165W from the wall, or do all core OC to 4200MHz at 1.225V and get higer score + lower power usage at 150W at the wall.
This CPU on that dinky cooler can sustain 4300MHz 1.35V with temp during long Blender test hovering close to 95C limit but always just below it, and for short runs of CB20 I can do 4350MHz at 1.35V.
Now the best part is, all these test are done with InfinityFabric at 1900MHz and 4x8GB memory at 3800MHz CL16-16-16-32-50 1T and some secondary timings tweaked as well ;)

My whole PC idles at 75W compared to 125W when I was running TR1920 + X399 Taichi, so not too bad of a saving, load power is way way better, but this temporary R5 3600 is quite a bit slower in heavily threaded tasks compared to 12C24T TR.

This is my fun CPU to play with and tie me over till 3900XT if good or Zen3 processors launch.
I might not have the golden sample of recent hitting 4.4GHz+ all core at 1.3V, but still a decent clocker.

Finally, for anyone saying it's not worth OC Zen2, I must disagree. There are probably samples which are very hard or not worth overclocking, but if you get a decent unit like mine, with a bit of tweaking you can gain decent speed in all cases. My CPU after 4.2GHz or 4.3GHz all core OC is faster than stock + PBO in EVERY TASK, while using less power.

Remember that the 3600 we had on these forums that hit 4.5 GHz was on water. You're using the stock cooler. The performance you're getting out of that chip with no investment in cooling is actually very good.

I've got another recently-purchased 3600, is there a way to tell the mfg date from just the box?

Remember that the 3600 we had on these forums that hit 4.5 GHz was on water. You're using the stock cooler. The performance you're getting out of that chip with no investment in cooling is actually very good.
Well, dropped in the "new" 3600 CPU. During the process, I found out that my bottom mount for my WC pump/heatsink, wasn't fully tightened. Also, I blew a bunch of dust out of my rig, especially the top-mounted rad., and the magnetic dust filter, that had a pattern caked onto it from the rad.

Temps haven't surpassed 69-70C (before, they were hitting 85C), and instead of stock (~4.0Ghz all-core loaded), I immediately OCed to 4.20Ghz all-core, forgot to disable Core Performance Boost initially, also, chose 1.225V vcore initially. Booted Windows 10 OK, but stuff started to get wonky, and stop loading. Stuff that had already loaded, was still running, but Task Manager hung upon loading.

So, RESET button, couldn't get into BIOS, Power-off, power-on, disable CPB, bump vcore to 1.28125V.

So far, so good. Cruising at a 4.20Ghz (actually, showing 4.199Ghz), 69C max, 70W package power (71W max), 100% CPU load (most of the time, it shows 99%), mining on RX 5700 and GTX 1660 ti 'Gaming X', doing WCG on 12 threads 100% CPU load on CPU.

Haven't tried PrimeGrid yet. :p

Edit: Forgot to add, I couldn't even get a 4.0Ghz all-core OC to stick, with my initial-release 3600 CPU, no matter what (sane) voltage I pumped into it, including up to 1.38625V, which resulted in some pretty high temps (with PrimeGrid).

Yes, without opening box you can read manufacturing date from the CPU itself as it sits in a window on the side of the package. 2nd line next to QR code, mine reads BF 1948PGS, where 19 is the year and 48 is the week.

Have you tested your board to see if it's sending falls current readings from its sensors?
I assume you mean "false". I downloaded and installed the newest AMD AM4 B450 chipset drivers for Win10. Installed, Rebooted, had also downloaded the newest HWInfo64 beta and prior stable ZIP releases. Unzipped the Beta, and ran it, after loading my GPU mining, and starting up BOINC with WCG taking 100% CPU time. (Also have Process Lasso running, boosting Firefox Nightly to "Above Normal", to improve web-browser responsiveness while mining.)

HWInfo reports 120%. That's with a 4.2Ghz fixed-clock OC, with a fixed vcore of 1.28125V, and a Vsoc of 1.1V.
