Not sure why but i got a feeling the voltage may be to high on this 3900x? Now that i have settled on a profile i was told by another member to consider a 0.1v drop at least. I am sitting at 88% cpu usage, 79cel but the cpu according to both Master and Cpu-z is hitting 1.35v at 4.041ghz.If i need adjusting what would be the best way to do it?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. ;-)

Yeah alright, i just wanted to make sure i was set. Thanks guys! :) Wise words and how i felt but figured some clocks or some tweaking was left on the table given how clocks are often effected by temps. Will leave it alone then!

This 3300X looks pretty interesting to me, for a budget build. One of my kids has been bugging me for something to game on, so it might be just the ticket.

Anyone else doing a budget build with one of these?

Make sure to watch the GamersNexus YT vid on those chips (3300X and 3100). GN was pretty bullish on them, especially the 3300X, which is a single CCX, no cross-CCX latency penalty, and performs like a 7700K, or slightly better.

Kyle from Bitwit wasn't so hot, even though the 3300X excelled in the gaming benchmarks, he still recommended the 1600 "AF" 6C/12T Zen+ CPU, IF you can find it for under $130.

I got a 2600 last year when the prices were down, for $108. Built a rig for a relative with it, games well for under $500 total. Now that they are back to $150ish that's kind of a non starter for a cheap build. At equal prices I think I'd take the 3300X over the 1600AF.

About to pause gpu folding momentarily and see how BF1 handles on this 3900x with a 40% load in BOINC. Should make for a good old fun time. I haven't played this game in a while and well its maybe the last good BF. Game has a minute and like 5 minutes of cut scenes before i could enjoy myself so this should be interesting! I would do 50% BOINC but between that things ram usage and BF4 i was maxing out and it caused minor hitching as things loaded into the pagefile but it was still damn playable at 130 min and 180+ fps avg on the 1080ti.

I need more ram before i could fully play with this as intended :( Adding pictures first of offline then will do some online like Amiens 64p :) This is at 1080p

Offline, the lowest fps i seen was like 156fps i think?

Offline

Amiens 64p Lowest i saw was 89fps and it was more or less constantly hanging over 100fps.

Edit: I guess my filters adjusted themselves, there is tons of NA servers, just full!

You should only be worried if you're running voltage like that in something like CBR20 or heavier. What application was running when you measured that voltage?

BOINC with 75% cpu usage and Folding@Home folding on a gpu were the only 2 major apps. I fixed up a TDDP of 105w and its running way cooler. Not all that much slower a good trade off.

Hmmm, I wouldn't be too worried with that voltage. What is your LLC setting? You can induce vdroop by dropping LLC and then try offsets, but you need to monitor actual performance when doing so. Don't just watch clockspeed.

LLC is set to normal, its been super solid and the above benchmarks in the game certainly show its got some power for sure. I gave up like 100mhz on the 3900x and its dropped my temps about 10 cel. Good trade off but gonna go back to default when i get my Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler. Might enable the PBO profile as i haven't tried it yet since i hear it roasts on the stock cooler. Like 90cel+ and i am like NOPE not on my new baby. Second most expensive cpu behind a i7 940.

Edit: actually for this load i currently got going on in BOINC, i actually am running the same exact speed before i adjusted my TDDP to 105. Its just a lighter load cause of memory usage and tasks in BOINC being a issue so now i got less tasks using up the cpu.

PBO often flat-out doesn't work. At least for me it doesn't.

Another one i never tried was the auto overclocking, i assume its like a lesser version of PBO? Never in my life would have i thought i would have seen software that would apply overclocks and stuff on the fly to a cpu. The days of a bios visit for that may be over if they can get it just right i think.

Yeah i am quickly finding out for this particular use case i need some serious memory, i got this kit currently sitting in a Gigabyte X570 Auros Elite

Now i wanna add this kit into the other 2 slots, i do sound noobish asking if this additional kit will cause issues given different timings on the kits but never in my 15 years of computers have i ever used 4 ram slots. I hear about various issues but i wouldn't know about them till i tried this. I do assume the entire set will have to run 3200mhz?

You will virtually never use more than 32 gig on a 12c/24t box. I would just double up the 8 gig sticks.

I was thinking this but saw BOINC/Rosetta momentarily hitting 2gb each on a handful of those tasks, then it sorta calmed down but i already had to drop cpu usage down to 55% so it wouldn't choke the current 16gb i got cause at prior settings of 75% some of the tasks ended up waiting on memory. Currently got 13 tasks as even ram nearly maxed out at 14 and i even got a task waiting when i hit 15 tasks......

yeah i will just double down on the 16gb kit and hope for the best thanks! I guess some of those tasks can be more demanding then others, one of the other members explained the spiked memory usage and i adjusted accordingly.

@mopardude87 The way these work ? I would not try PBO or any overclocking, they do just great stock.

Yeah its been my favorite profile so far the default one but this TDDP adjustment to 105 has been nice but going to revert it back to 127 or auto later when i get that new cpu cooler. Room is hotter then Hades cause my ac just quit working and i am loading at 60% odd cpu usage and i am only hitting 71cel. Room is at least 90f.

Edit: checked thermostat its 86 and my room easily a bit warmer

if it was me i would just use 2x16 sticks and not 4x8gb, also you will notice the ryzen 3000 chips seem to never idle you move your mouse and they will hit 70% cpu. def no need to overclock tho it wont do much good with out exotic cooling.

Yeah been thinking about a 2x32gb kit actually as i am about 90% sure i am dropping in at least a 32 thread 4000 series before end of year so yeah will be crunching BOINC/Rosetta. It will need that memory. 4000 would need to be a fail for me not to consider the upgrade. I doubt it will be. If they offer more cores or whatever at a reasonable price i am all over it especially if this cpu can be air cooled.

Not sure yet i got a few days to think about it, would need some testimony from dedicated BOINC/Roseetta members on ram usage with their 3950x. I assume the 4000 series may drop a 24 core chip i just got this feeling we are going past 16 and if so then i would want it if the thing cost $850 or less. Would be insane and awesome to double the cores again after just tripling them coming off a 7700k.

Ugh, I'm guessing you are exaggerating on the 70% bit. 4x8GB gives a bit higher bandwidth, for those who care. 2x16GB usually allows better timings, and more expansion for later if needed.

A pity. Around here, it's about 40F outside in the shade. And we're in the South . . .

If you have older dual-rank 16GB DIMMs, 2x16GB is going to be about the same as 4x8GB. There might be some differences between daisy chain and t-topology boards using those configurations.

You think that was toasty, i had a fan hitting me as i sat here and i was still sweating. My thermostat went right past 91f before we checked the filter and well it was beyond clogged. Changing that certainly has it blowing cold air again but its still got to be about 85f in my room now .Despite all the heat my cpu hit 80cel and the gpu hit 88cel. The temp in my room was where most people have to leave a room like worst case temps, i had to actually get out of here it got that bad and i came back to find those temps.

Yeah its fair to say this CM500P Mesh certainly has been the best purchase i ever made . I removed the front filters then put a 110cfm fan in the rear and removed the mesh covering that spot as well. REALLY helps with airflow.
