Question AMD Rembrandt/Zen 3+ APU Speculation and Discussion

Alright, so we've had some leaks so far. I don't know if any of it's been confirmed yet, as it's pretty early, but here is what I've surmised so far (massive grain of salt of course):

• Zen 3 "enhanced"
• DDR5 and LPDDR5 support
• PCIE4
• 6nm
• CVML
• Navi 2/RDNA/RDNA 2
• 12 CU
• Socket FP7/AM5
• Possible USB4
• 2021(unlikely) -2022 (more likely) release date

If if turns out to have RDNA 2 and 12 CU, I could see iGPU performance potentially almost doubling over Cezanne.

If I've made any mistakes or gotten anything wrong, please let me know. I'd also love to hear more knowledgeable people weigh in on their expectations.

I'm honestly surprised AMD didn't launch desktop Rembrandt (on AM5) and B650 alongside the high-end stuff. It seems like it would have been an easy way to appease the budget conscious consumer.

DDR5 launched mid 2020. In a usual environment (no human malware, better performing competition) DDR5 would have been more widespread and cheaper by now and an earlier platform launch with Rembrandt would have made perfect sense. Now the platform first starts as a premium product, just like new Zen gens do since Zen 3.

It's probably just amd copying intel and releasing the halo parts a few months before the mainstream parts, both motherboards and cpus, hopefully, I know the zen3desktop "few months" was 20 months.
That and amd really doesn't need much stock to launch a high end diy solution while mainstream they need to be able to supply oems and walmart tier buyers.

As for waiting for a 6800 laptop with the design/spec I want it's just not appearing. Maybe the lenovo t14 but the price too high from what I saw last time.
I've given up and just bought a steam deck for now.
Phoenix cpus will have better designs and availability right?

I just got a Lenovo ThinkPad T16 AMD (16") - Black for $1,138.05 Its a 6850H I think ? Power brick says 65watt max, and it is charged through a USB 4 port. Directly from Lenovo. My 6800U was 3 months OOS. I think they are very close, but the 6800U was a few hundred less.

phoenix will likely cost significantly more than rembrandt and i have not seen anything which would indicate that it will have improved availability. maybe by the time it is launched those of of waiting for a 6800U will finally be able to purchase one at a reasonable price.

You would think it would have better availability simply based on its expected sheer technical domination. On the other hand, it's not a drop in replacement for OEMs so alignment with design refreshes could play a large role. That said, regardless of availability, we'll likely see a shift towards premium devices. Sucks if you want a budget powerhouse and don't care as much about the display. Great news if you want an XPS, Spectre, Yoga, etc.

because zen4 is on a new die while rembrandt is based on zen3 which has been around for a few years makes it likely that phoenix will have less availability.

Will you be able to check out your 6800U laptop as well? Or did you already decide to return that one and keep this 6850H one?

It comes Friday, but I think its a 6800H. The original 6800U is still OOS, so I cancelled the order. I may be happier with the 6850H anyway.

Interesting how the drawn out Lenovo delivery drama finally came to a wonderful conclusion. Instead of 6800U, you ended up with two powerful 6850U (not H i think) and 6800H laptops!

A mini review with some benchmarks (GB5 and Rapydmark High using High Performance power plan please!) and comparison of both with pictures would be really nice!

For those outside the US, Lenovo is shipping (as in immediately) a 14" Yoga 2-in-1 G7 with the 6800U. CNC'ed aluminum body. Screen available in 60Hz 1440p IPS (300 nits, 100% sRGB) or 90Hz 1800p OLED (400 nits, 100% DCI-P3). Up to 32GB LPDDR5-6400.

Price for the maxed version is around 1600 euro/dollars (a bit more in the UK). The extra 16GB RAM is $200 and the 512GB->1TB SSD another $100. You can save $100 by stepping down to a 6600U, but you might lose the ability to order 32GB RAM.

The displays are pretty much identical in price. The are reports of issues with the digitizer being visible under certain conditions with the OLED variant, as appears to be the case with most OLED touch screens for laptops, from all major OEMs. Other displays might be available in retail.

This model had some significant BIOS issues initially, but they appear to have been fixed.

Not one I would personally buy without seeing and handling one, but it seems like possibly the best 6800U laptop right now, if you live in the "right" place.

Linux support is pretty bad out of the box, but everything except for the bass speakers and integrated mic apparently works with patches and should be mainlined fairly soon. Personally, that's a bit too bleeding edge for be, so I would hold off until everything I need is in place.

Yeah, I was just including the u series since it's been fairly elusive. On a side note how do you like your G15? I've thought about getting one.

The first one they sent me died after 3 days. That was disappointing to say the least. Took them 2 weeks to send a replacement. But this one has been solid. It's pretty heavy. Runs every game I've thrown at it just fine, though on demanding titles it gets hot and noisy.

i already have a 4500U so the igpu is the reason i am looking for a new laptop as a 6800U will run games far better than a 5800.

Supposedly, the 6600u should be slightly better than Vega8. I've seen a couple of those for almost reasonable prices.

it's not worth the upgrade from vega though. personally cost wise it would be better to go with a 5800U over a 6600u so really the 6800U is the sweet spot as far as prcie & performance for laptops imo.
