AMD Raven Ridge 'Zen APU' Thread

15W APU? Holy hell. Throw in fast RAM, SSD, and you get very capable, basic computer, that can be cooled passively!

Interesting that it has 10CU's - 640 GCN cores, and full design has 11 CU's. Thermal constraints, or simply leaving something for "higher-end" designs?

The compettition for this is the usual core i3 i5 i7 ultrabook stuff.
Man this is nearly twice as fast in the same tdp for both gpu and cpu.

I expected Raven Ridge to rule the roost, but @ 15w? I did not see that coming. AMD is not messing around.

The use of 3DMark Time Spy is suspicious. It's not a good benchmark when compared to games. Firestrike would have been better, or 3DMark11.

From Overwatch and DOTA 2, the results seem comparable to Iris 540/640(15W). That's actually fantastic considering Iris needs an expensive eDRAM to do so.

The CPU is performing really well. Single thread performance is within 10% of Intel CPUs, and multi-thread performance kills the Coffeelake U part. Although the success of beating a 15W part would be dependent on whether 2700U is running at 15W or close to 30W to do so, the fact is it beats it soundly so there's a chance its competitive at 15W too. 2700U Cinbench MT scores are on par with 45W Intel quad core chips.

maybe that's good considering it achieves that without the edram, but I still find disappointing that an AMD GPU with 10 CUs is only at this level of performance.
3dmark often looked better than gaming with APUs, looking less affected by the low memory bandwidth and so on.

indeed the CPU side is looking good.

and that chip alone likely has the same or more TDP then the entire zen soc ( i expect U to be ultrabook chip so, 17-25 watt kind of range).

we need to see real world power usage while running these games, but also the IGP clock and so on,
but I find really low to only get that framerate at what is something like 600P low
while it might look decent in terms of performance/W, performance/$ is going to be far behind the MX150 for gaming.

And people contest that Zen (or even Vega) aren't extremely efficient CPU's. The more the restrictive the power envelope the more they are going to shine. Vega suffers because AMD has to clock it to the moon to keep up at the high end.

First of these that ends up in a Tablet (preferably with a good keyboard attachment) gets my purchase next year.

Agree. We all asumed it was like 25-35w. This crusade in this thread comparing it to 45w iris edram parts barely available and expensive like crazy. And yet still a bit faster.

What kind of pricing are we talking about? Want something with at least 8GB DDR4-2400 (and a second free slot!), and an SSD, preferably an M.2 PCI-E drive with 256GB-class storage, but a 128GB would be usable, in a pinch. Think I could get that, with a 1080P IPS screen, for $500?

At least for HP one, it uses the same platform as A12 lappy.

Amd apu is not for your budget any more.
You will have to do with an Intel i5.

Soldered RAM, on Ryzen Mobile? Is it considered that much of a low-end platform by OEMs? Heck, half of my Atom-based laptops, don't even have soldered RAM... :|
