I'm waiting for price gouging to stop and for AT's 6850 roundup to decide, even though my GPU is slower than a GTX260's. If AMD wasn't lying, then the price gouging should be over soon as stockpiles flood North America.
I dont see any gouging on newegg but tigerdirect sure did not go by the msrp for the 6850.

well yeah but they may not get any lower anytime soon either.

That is true.

It also depends on NVIDIA be willing to lower prices on the GTX460 768 and 1GB and if there are enough GTX470 (and is it possible for the GTX470 go down further in price?) and OC GTX460 to hinder 6870 sales. Alternatively those GF104 384sps could materialize.

Most likely thing to happen is the 6870 price to adjust a tiny bit.

I'm in the same situation. Paying $200+ for a card that is only 40% faster is IMO ridiculous.

Maybe I should be happy that I'm getting so much out of my gtx 260? :awe: I've never had a video card for this long before D:

There is a very good For Sale section on the forum. Not sure what GTX 260's are going for but if you got $90 for it, you'd only be paying $90 for the extra 40%. Not bad in my book.

will 6850 work with corsair vx450? maybe minimum requirement is 500w?

Yes it will work without any problems. VX450 is a very, very good power supply.

Edit:

I cannot reply to your PM Samrat. It won't let me. However, yes your power supply can handle both an HD 6850 (or GTX 460) and a core i5 760 without any problems.

I understand that but I want a nice upgrade to my 2 year old now without having to get a loud power hungry card. remember people said wait on the 5870/5850 to go down in price and it only went up.

I hear ya

I sold that GTX 460 (768MB) and am using a GT 240 right now. GaiaHunter is right about it being a different era. But we will still see some drops but you have to be reasonable. With a $180 msrp I think we could see something up to 20% off fairly soon (a month or so?) if you watch slickdeals/fatwallet. Set up a deal alert at slickdeals for 6850.

I wrote earlier that I would pay up to $145 for a GTX 460 1GB and I still would but I'd kind of like to try an AMD card since I haven't had one for so long. I'd be willing to pay up to $150 for the 6850.

Amazon's prices are way above MSRP as well. I've got a ton of Amazon reward cards and I'd like to put them towards a new card, but they're anywhere from $30 to $60 over MSRP for the 6800s right now. At this rate, the 6950 and 6970 might be released before the gouging subsides.

Of course, I just saw they have the EVGA GTC 470 Superclocked for $270, which is really tempting too.

Put me in the disappointed category. The 6870 should be named the 5850pe. That said I will buy one in a couple of weeks if the early adopters don't have dying cards.

I know I should be more excited about having several monitors, 3d and better crossfire, but none of that stuff appeals.

looks like it should be a nice upgrade from my msi 5770, just have to decide between the 6850 or the 6870.

Im leaning towards the 6850. Oc'd it should offer a better bang for buck then the 6870.
Am i right? What would you guys get. I mostly play tf2, starcraft2, and Bad Company2 @1920x1200

I saw that earlier. The XFX is $265. Is it worth going for the XFX over the VisionTek?

I am not sure about that company, but I can vouch for XFX and its double life time warranty.

I personally would not buy a VisionTek.

Do any of you guys think that AMD letting 3rd parties offer kit for 3D will cause competition and reduce prices for 3D kit?

And will some AIBs bundle kits with some cards?

Yes, currently there are two 3rd party vendors IZ3D and DDD, that offer 3D support for AMD cards. You need to purchase a 3D software, active shutter glasses and 3D monitors separately, there are no bundles I guess, but we can expect some time later, unfortunately there was a bug in 10.10 driver that prevented reviewers from testing out some supported 3D games. More info here and here.

Just ordered this... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150506 I'm ordering all kind of stuff Never enough video cards!

Great no more price gouging from XFX, awesome.

nope ncix links are weird and often default from sale price to the we don't sell any price.

My point was $240 at newegg us, generally means $280 canada. So I would expect $205 us at this time.
