Retail shots of a Chinese AIB 6970. Launch is the week of Dec 13-17th. Badass looking card, I still prefer the look of the GTX 480, the heatpipes look cool, but I bet this sucker is much cooler and faster ;)

Pricing of the 6970/6950 converted from Chinese Yuan to US Dollar is $600/$450. For perspective the 6970 price matches what a GTX 580 sells for in China currently.

Take what you will from the pricepoints these cards are said to be coming in at ():)

That can't be the 6970 with only one CF connector. Looks like a 6870 to me.

So, if it's going to cost the same as the 580, then it better be faster.

Why couldn't it trade blows? Particularly if it has 2GB of memory and offers single-card three-monitor support.

Either way, frustrating with the lack of leaks or hints at performance leading up to release.

Well generally Nvidia has commanded a slight premium for their top tier chips from a price/performance perspective. Considering the official MSRP of the 580 is $500, I would expect a $600 dollar 6970 to be a decent amount faster.

I really hope this card is indeed $600 dollars as that would mean there is a significant performance improvement.

*edit* Apparently I'm wrong, See below.

Well they're saying that a GTX 580 currently sells for about $600.00 USD in China. So I would expect the 6970 to sell for $500.00 here in the States, with the 6950 going for $350.00. And the GTX 570 will likely also debut at $350.00 as well.

Makes me wonder how rediculously expensive the 6990 is going to cost. $899.99?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but the OP states the $600 figure is Chinese pricing, and the 580 is also $600 in their equivalent, so they are actually identical.

I'd think AMD would be far more forthcoming about potential performance if it was ready to beat the 580, but would be an interesting switch to see ATI with the single GPU crown. Still expecting them to trade blows at this point, at best--it's just too quiet in AMD's camp.

Yes, it looks exactly like my VisionTek 6870.

At any rate, if those prices are accurate (give or take $50), I'm glad I settled for the 6870. It was much cheaper and performs well in everything I throw at it.

So, the card pictured in the OP is in fact "not" a 69series card?
Groover, you're going to have to start placing disclaimers on your posts, something like:

"Caution, products in photos may differ from products being discussed."
:D

Can anyone confirm that this card would need two Crossfire connectors to be a 6970?

TIA.

There is one crossfire slot on top the card. A bit confused with this picture here.

people the 69xx are coming soon, can we just agree to this and get past the point of asking whether a photo is real???? Jeesh AMD needs this to survive, so unless something major is happening, it's coming!!

Now all I care about is how does the 6970 stack up against the 580, because at equal prices and equal performance figures, the 580 will wax the 6970 all day long to the bank. NV cards have always command a little premium (whether AMD fanboys like it or not or how hard they try to justify the opposite case), so the 6970 better beat the 580 by 10% average at the same price! Personally, I would still go with NV due to the fact that NV has superior software (drivers) team because they're more willing to spend.

edit:
btw, hopefully with this release, prices of the 460 and 6850 can be pushed down further so that I can finally get one without going through stupid rebates like black friday

The OP talks about the 6950/6970 release and instead puts pictures up that may not be that card. Thats intentionally misleading. This is a valid discussion.

Sounds expensive to me. So AMD will have no cards priced between $250 and $450? That sounds odd to me based on their normal pricing practices.

Still no performance reviews...

As previously stated in the thread, the article specifies that this is Chinese pricing that corresponds to curring prices for the GTX580, so it will probably be lower in the U.S.

I'm guessing ~339-369 for the 6950 and probably ~469-499 for the 6970

If you look you can see that in one of the shots that it definitely looks like it says "6970". If you want to disagree with the fact that the cards are HD6970s, don't blame Grooveriding for posting up the pictures which a site claims are HD6970's and which have a label on them saying HD6970.

Caution, keysplayer may be being keysplayer.

if they're priced similarly but have 2gb ram I'd expect them to trade blows but be faster at highest res (2560x1600 and eyefinity, 8xAA especially, etc).

You could have warned me that Groover had you on retainer.
