you should move to the US, everything is cheaper in volume!

Except the healthcare!

I think part of the reason there's been minimal price drops is obviously the 40nm issue (we're still on it).
Most of the price wiggle will come from things like better yields and dropping RAM prices.

Ah, a new card launch. Nothing brings out the venom quite like it.

Thats rubbish!

I have 6950 and 6970 stock shipping and I've paid for it.

I can tell you now the pricing will be:-

6950 @ £270 - £300 Inc. VAT
6970 @ £360 - £400 inc. VAT

I have lots en-route.

Now the 5870's are sub £200, thats £100 cheaper than a 6950 and same price as a 6870.

People will and are buying 5870's now they are sub £200 because at sub £200 there is no faster card.
smile.gif

5870 won't be going £150 or lower, what would be the point, as then 6850/6870 would not sell.

Plus if you think 69xx cards are gonna be £200 then think again and look at my pricing above, again use common sense, why would 6950 be same price as a 6870?

6950 competes with GTX 570/480 and is priced similar.
6970 competes with GTX 580 and is priced similar.

Besically =

the 6950 will be priced equal or lower than the 570/480.
the 6970 will be priced equal or lower than the 580.

Which in short is what we always specualated was gonna happend.

$400 for a 6970 would be quite welcome, demand-level markups aside, but I still believe that (assuming it's 2GB standard) we're not going to be that lucky.

Hehe sometimes I think to myself "you know, life can't be that bad, when what it is we are arguing and fighting with each other about is a video card" :)

Not sure how accurate this info is:
http://www.nordichardware.com/news/...es-struggling-to-stay-in-2010-for-launch.html

"Big brorther Radeon HD 6970 is more uncertain though and according to reliable sources we should actually be very happy if it does launch this year - and be prepared that it may very well be moved into 2011, which will be needed to see any kind of supply in stores. Radeon HD 6950 is said to be in better shape, but AMD will not launch the Cayman series before Radeon HD 6970 is ready and fit for fight."

A good "high end card" for $250.00

I kinda laughed out loud

Don't get me wrong, a $250 card can be a great card, but I wouldn't call it high end.

High end is 350+ and has been for a while

A used 5970 still goes for $425-440 on eBay!

I can't see it at 400. I think it will be 550+

you dont consider the 5870 a highend card? It can be gotten for under 250$.

Its solidly between the 470 and 480 in performance, which means only 2 cards are faster than it, 1 the 580 and 2 the 480.

This is odd info.. Charlie from S/A is saying something differnt.

http://www.semiaccurate.com/2010/12/03/ati-cuts-6950-allocation/

IT LOOKS LIKE AMD is having difficulties with their ability to supply 6950s, they just cut AIB allocations. Luckily that is not the only news about the 6900 series today. Short story, 6950 board allocations were cut and probably delayed a little bit from actual shipments. While it wasn't stated explicitly by our source, word on the street says it is due to a last minute BIOS tweak. This is not unusual for product introductions, and there are zero reports of any hardware problems on any Cayman based board.
The upside to all of this is that the allocation of 6970s just went up, a lot. Some were hinting that numbers are really close to that of the 6950 drop. If you know anything about semiconductor production, that should give you a bit of insight about yields and bin splits.S|A
Says the amount of 6950s they went back on, they upped the amount of 6970s made.
Besically yeilds are so good/components limited, and they had no reason not to make mostly 6970s.
Which could mean we ll see them price the 6970 very aggressively (at 570 instead of 580 levels).

No, it's a gut feeling. 3DMark11 and the GTX570 are both coming on the 7th. Plus we already know reviewers have the cards.

But AMD officially said they would be here on the 13th or at least announced?

I missed the official release (or announcement of an announcement) statement of the 13th? I recall apoppin posting an NDA expiration of the 13th. Have I missed something?

There was another pic with the reviewer from Lab501.ro holding up 2 Cayman cards. One (or both?) had a backplate, and I assume it's the 6970.

I would find it but the Beyond3d site isn't even loading for me.
