Notice 9:15-9:40 timeslot. If digitimes is correct and they're demoing at those expos then consumers may not be able to get their hands on the cards until a later time.

Edit: Debuted ~ Announce? != Launch. Might actually be consistent with Digitimes earlier post saying we won't get them until Nov?

From the digitimes article:

rumors about the new GPU's lower-than-expected performance and launch schedule have been circulating in the IT market

I must have been sleeping.

First of all, the date quoted in the OP is dead wrong. It is not October 18 and there will be information officially released on a different date (although it may remain under NDA for awhile) 😛

Someone explain to me why - if they cannot even get the dates right - why there is a thread devoted to this nonsense? Clearly the right information is very obvious but it is hidden in among the mis-info.

I agree with Mark. Oct. 18 is not launch day; nobody with a decent track record about these things has said so. At best, it is a delayed media day with launch to follow.

Edit: if we're starting a pool or something, put me down for Oct. 14 (media) and Oct. 25 (availability/launch). 🙂

All this GPU talk on an unreleased product is bull. I, for one, am going to wait for an Anandtech review before I believe anything.

Well, it has already elicited a snicker or two from Nvidia.
😀

Oct 18 is dead wrong for launch.

C-ya next week. i'll check back to see if anyone has the date right by then
😛

When is the launch date or are you under NDA?

Yes, well put. Looking forward to an objective and in detail review by none other than Anandtech and Ryan Smith.

Will also be reading the Hardocp review, they will for sure take an indepth look at the power/heat and noise characteristics.

We should know something for real in roughly two weeks time. I'm waiting for both Anandtech & HardOCP for benches.

Anandtech is still the reference standard, for sure. Nice to see others appreciate [H]ardOCP style of reviewing, too. I wish they could extend their tests to more game titles.

I like TechPowerUp for their performance summaries. Although some of the info on there is dated and Wizz is known for not updating his drivers for every review. Still useful for a quick reference, IMO.

Ummm... Is there anything else we might be able to talk about while we wait. 🙂 Damn we need some sort of official update :'(

They managed to keep eyefinity a secret, maybe this is what they're doing again. Don't want the competition knowing everything before people can start buying. It's better this way anyhow. You get all the benchies and info you want in a single day! It's like Christmas!

Now stop this banter and get gaming!

Well Nvidia has already tried to quiet the release up by releasing the GT430 and lowering prices on the same day. They know their beat. So it makes sense for AMD to play this particularly close, as they already have Nvidia doing what they want, and reacting to them.

I had enough of AMD drivers, this launch doesn't bother me one bit...🙂

We can't until the cards are launched :awe:

It's strange how it works and I'm not sure if it's the drivers or the mind playing tricks or what. When a launch is in the near future all video cards tend to slow down, framerates drop, features don't work as advertised, by the company releasing the new cards. But for the strangest reasoning the company that isn't releasing the new cards performance increases, framerates jump, temps go down, power consumption decreases, and the advertised features work out of the box the way they are meant to....Puzzling isn't it 🙂

Just another week or two or three and a couple of good reviews to compile the data and somehow things will get back to normal....If there is such a thing.

Good thing those Nvidia drivers are 100% perfect all the time. 😛

Much better than AMD's...🙂 (they actually work, lol)

You came, you added your thread-crap/flamebait, unfortunately members took the bait, and now you are back to add more thread-derail.

I'd rather have drivers with minor glitches than ones that fry your card, if it comes to that, lol.

Reference design had no issues and I always buy reference...🙂

I've been using ATI/AMD cards in my main PC for 5 years straight. Never had a driver issue or needed to RMA. And none of the cards burned out either, they all still work including the 12 year old ATI Rage Pro 2 in an old IBM PC I have on my shelf.

Both companies have their driver quirks; yet a big difference is that Nvidia bricked their own cards and was responsible for at least a third of all Vista crashes in the first year alone. To pretend that is one miles beyound the other is foolish.

Not only did my last Nvidia card have driver issues, I had to RMA it to EVGA. Never had to RMA an ATI card.

I never had to RMA a card period. (knock on wood) Anyway like I said, due to crappy drivers as of late, this launch doesn't turn me on at all...(and I always get latest and greatest)

I've had to RMA one ATI card and no NVIDIA so far. I still get whatever's best for my wallet.

I never had to RMA a card period. (knock on wood) Anyway like I said, due to my own bad experience as of late, this launch doesn't turn me on at all...(and I always get latest and greatest)

Come on, we really don't need four or five posts from you repeating the same thing in this thread about how you couldn't handle AMD's drivers. I would say make a thread, but you've made a couple threads about it here already.

Were you aware there were tons of issues with GTX 460, and particularly 460 SLI performance for lots of users ? Scaling performance, low gpu usage, crashes, black-screen at startup etc. There are tons of threads on nvidia's forums and many other forums including this one about these issues.

There is still only a beta driver from nvidia to attend to the issues and no WHQL. These people waited two months for the fixes the beta driver provided

Point being, there are always people with driver issues. You obviously had none with your new setup or else we would of seen posts here about it, the same way there are tons of users who have no issues with AMD drivers and we see no posts about it.

The general rule is for every satisfied customer you hear a positive comment from 1 in 10, for every customer who is not satisfied you hear from them all.

My 5870 CF setup was fine and had no major issues. My 480 SLI is the same.

I expect my 6970 CF setup to also be fairly hassle free

Folks, please stop indulging the thread-crap and thread-derail and get back to the topic. (not pointing fingers at anyone, but please no more posts relating to the thread-derailing instigated above)
