Only real solution for getting away from pump whine is to remove the pump. I caved and went for the EKWB.

How did you manage to clean out the old thermal paste without nuking your card?

I'm usually not one that cares about a build's aesthetics much, but that is one sexy looking card/build, Thor.

Freaking beautiful man - than for the build log with pics. I very much enjoyed it and it does look really sweet with the block facing the case window
Cheers man. I had the idea as soon as ek posted about the block. Glad it turned out how it did.

I actually went at it the same I always do when cleaning cards. I used straight up tissue and alcohol. Nothing special. Did the best I could to get it clean.

Cheers man. The card with the water block really does nail the look.

Nice! Glad you got a good one. Looks like the embossed logo is definitely a good indicator. I haven't seen a user report yet that said the embossed version had any noise issue.

Thanks for the update!

Perhaps things have finally turned the corner with those bad batches...

"Trash talk[ing]" aside, I say it will whine THE WORST because there is a probability someone else had already returned it.

Good luck!

That reverse psychology worked! :D Newegg is reading my forum posts :p

Grats! I'm jelly you got a working pump before Corsair released their bracket :(

Why didn't you just get a GTX 980 Ti after this problem?

*Looks at sig*

Oh... you have both now....

Ok :(

Haha, I don't even look at people's sigs half the time.

If I could get the GF to let me buy both, I'd do it. But then I'd probably be all like "but I can get two of one type and go SLI/CFX."

And if I were going SLI/CFX I'd probably go Fury X (of course if the pumps are noiseless). Dat scaling!

AMD CF scaling is one of the reasons I still like it.
I could crossfire my 7950 even and get better performance than a single R9 290 in the games I'm playing. But I'd STILL be stuck at 1440p vsr.
Fury X CF would be nice. I originally wanted it. But without HDMI 2.0 I can't justify it. And you can't even downsample onto 4K? I don't get that. You can do that with SLI GTX 980 Ti right?

You should do that Railven.... just get a GTX 980 Ti for the GF, then when she isn't gaming you got SLI!

Seeing people with 8K VSR videos out on youtube with SLI GTX 980Ti while Fury X is stuck at 4K.... I mean didn't AMD release teaser shots of 8K Bioshock Infinite? What was that about?

Haha, that's sort of how I ended up with the second HD 7970. I sort of complained that I couldn't get 60 FPS in Bioshock Infinite, and she just caved. But then after getting CFX I couldn't stop complaining about microstutter and profile issues with the niche games I play, and she pretty much told me to go die in a fire. (Course then I ended up with SLI GTX 660 Tis and that was another mixed bag. Woof.)

But, she didn't even bat an eye when I had an identity crisis after the Fury X reviews and I came home with 2x 290X Ref refurbs and 2x Corsair water brackets. Haha.

I personally don't think I can go back to multi-GPU. The games I play too often don't have the right support. And I'm so sensitive to microstutter it seems that it just sets me off like a canon.

I remember when frame variance was all the hype around here and people were posting their logs. I posted mine and it was clear as day that microstutter was plaguing my system. Here is to hoping DX12 does actually address this issue.
