Also I will be getting rid of the backplate, I am mounting my ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme IV as soon as I get it.

A little overkill? I may pull the Arctic Twin Turbo II off of my old GTX 570 and use it on an RX 480 if I pick one up. I bet the Twin Turbo can keep a card with that power draw in the 50s for temps, so I don't know what a Xtreme IV would be needed for. It costs almost 1/3 the price of the card.

Hm... Two new Hardware Schedulers. These units did not show up on previous GCN block diagrams. Perhaps this suggests better DX11 performance relative to older GCN cards?

Already covered in post above... and I found my old post on this:

Basically HWS is present in Fiji already. It's an improved 2x ACEs => 1x HWS unit that can perform the roles of 2x ACEs as well as new enhanced functions.

If you guys are looking for enhance DX11 function, it's this:

Refer to the wave instruction cache/buffer.

AMD's GCN currently lack a deep buffer so the wavefront instructions have to constantly come in to keep the shaders running. If the CPU becomes bottlenecked (in DX11, single threaded renderin), it stalls.

This change should result in improved DX11 performance in those scenarios of either:

1. Weak CPU or poor single thread IPC CPU in demanding games.
2. Games that hammer a single thread, such as PhysX heavy titles running on AMD DX11.
3. Improve minimum FPS in DX11 IF the bottleneck is the CPU.

I think you're right but Xtreme IV is what I have.

Ah, I see. Good info.

Is the RX 470 even launching tomorrow? Fry's isn't going to have them. I'm going to be pissed if it's not on sale tomorrow because everyone and their mom has said the 470 is launching tomorrow. I didn't sell my GPU 1 week before the 29th just to wait 2 more weeks for the 470.

rx470 was never supposed to launch tomorrow. If you listen to Lisa Su during PC Gamer presentation when the card was first shown, she specifically emphasised the 29th was for rx480 only.

THEN WHY did everyone and their MOM report the 29th for all 3??? Do reporters NOT HAVE EARS OR EYES? Can these websites please hire fully functioning human beings? Jesus now I will never believe anyone but AMD's direct reports ever again. [Redacted] the internet.

I only see 480 boxes being shown, no 470, no 460.
It was always said that the 480's launch date was June 29th, nothing official from AMD on the other cards.

Sorry dude, shouldn't be too long, it will probably be out within weeks. Also it looks like they will be AIB designs so you get lucky in that regard.

Some PC stores here have RX 480s on sale already. Well it is the 29th here. From my brief observation of the RX480 being displayed in some sort of glass case in one store I went to, seems to be pretty quiet, dunno about temperatures. Was hooked up to a 21:9 display showing Overwatch (they let customers play the game), but no idea about the performance besides it looks smooth.

Looking forward to the reviews finally. Months of speculation can finally end and be replaced by more months of speculation or rumors. 😛

Yes... they did that for all launches that I recall. Either a OOS, or auto-notify.
Then, they flip the switch, and they are all in stock.
I wonder if they will all go out of stock tomorrow before we even get reviews in. As much as I don't want a reference card I do need a new one.

But there was no official price either, so, how do you know it would have been best value?
Heck, it might have been $189.

well, I'm considering the rumored $150, if it's a lot more than that, forget about it... but I don't see how it would make any sense to be $190, that would mean what, RX460 for $150? with 1024SPs at best? sounds bad.
