5 MHz gap between Sapphire / PowerColor and only 1 point difference in FSU GPU score, so it might well be above 2907 pts at 1050 MHz. I agree that's nitpicking at this point (margin of error %).

Still, I wonder where those WCCFTech results come from. If not 100% fake, maybe overclock results?

Before people with crazy overclocked GM200 start comparing, don't forget this:

Partners, SUCH AS ASUS, Colorful, EVGA, Galax, GigaByte, the MSI are the with the Preparing Custom Boards 2-3. 8-PIN Connectors. ACCORDING to our sources, reaching 2.5 GHz using a liquid cooling setup such as Corsair H115i or EK waterblocks should not be too much of a hassle.

Geforce GTX 1080 @ 2.5 GHz - 3DMark Scores:

Fire Strike: 31.286
Fire Strike Extreme: 15.280
Fire Strike Ultra 7.369

Double standard much ? But what to expect.. 😵

Not impressed with that cooler. Should be pretty easy to improve on that from the AIB's

Searching through my post history, interesting. Let's ignore the fact that there's plenty of material to pick from your posts as well. Don't worry, I don't intend to do thread crapping. 🙂

By the way, it was a rumour from VR-World posted all over different hardware forums:

Back to topic...

FWIW here's my stock Sapphire 390X Tri-X on Firestrike Ultra:

Nice, better than TweakTown. GPU score: 2969.

Yes, the 290X cooler sucked.

But people that have used the 480 cooler say it is quiet and works good.

Don't forget the 7970 reference cooler is pretty terrible as well. I doubt AMD will make the same mistake after the scolding they received for the 290/X.

If Gibbo from Overclockers UK says it's pretty great, then I imagine it is.

One would expect so though. The 290X had a much higher TDP so that cooler had to displace more heat.

You really need to wait until Vega drops before we can make a fair comparison.

The bolded part lost me.

Your saying we need to wait for Vega to be launched before we can see if the stock cooler on Polaris is good or not? Or did you mean we have to wait and see how the stock cooler on Vega performs before we can see if AMD learned their lesson?

hehe you catched him with pants down. only thing to get from aftermarket 1080s is downgraded efficiency. all aftermarket 1080s seem to be only 33% more efficient tham gtx980. or maybe nvidia sent highly binned review samples to all sites :sneaky:

Chance is, that you could put the "sucking" cooler from 290X on the RX480 and it would be quite and work good 🙂
It was just not sufficient for required thermal dissipation for 290x.

It is beyond me that NOBODY sees how 3dMark stats transfer into real world gaming performance, especially in DX12 titles.

I suggest confronting these scores with the scores from 3dMark benchmarks.

And then trying to draw any conclusions how will RX 480 perform.

Technically that's still the stock clock on my 390X. That's how Sapphire shipped it.

Nothing wrong with that. You linked the complete result, which also showed the clock frequency.
But if you are pulling out numbers from your link like Sweepr, both numbers needs to be quoted for reference.

Why is Titan X so much faster than 980ti in AotS DX12 test?

I think now that the wccf benchmarks have been debunked, and it looks like rx470 isn't way slower than rx480, it seems like the real question becomes (at least for me) why not buy two rx470's, overclock them to rx480'ish stock, and have a 300 USD solution with gtx1080ish perf (say up to 10% worse since the aots bench was probably cherry picked) except only 4gb vram?

The second part. 290X is a 250W TDP part, Polaris 10 is only 150W. The card should run more quietly and and at lower temps unless AMD really screwed the pooch. It would be more fair to compare it to the 270, which was also a 150W part.

I don't doubt that it's a better overall design, but the logic used to support that idea was suspect.

A simple Google search would save you some embarassment. 1055 MHz for the Tri-X, so only 5 MHz above AMD's 'stock' 1050 MHz. Not my fault that these specific Radeon RX 480 results can't match certain VGAs with updated drivers. Now please keep your personal attacks and OT out of my thread.

You mean the thread you started solely to bash on AMD?

The thread that started with a title of something similar to "NDA for Polaris not until June 29th"

That started with a single screenshot of the NDA paper, which now doesn't even exist in the OP?

The same thread that you almost immediately started talking about Pascal GP106 in?

Maybe take your own advice and stop bring up Nvidia everytime you post.

It's said that the stock reference blower design for Polaris is quite effective. We'll see in reviews I'm sure how well it performs.

As far as Vega goes it's too early to even worry about I'd imagine. For one we don't even know if it's going to use the same reference blower as Polaris.

Why do amd need that reference stuff anyway?

Look how successfull 390 launch was vs practicall all other stuff and thats even with something more rebranded than properly facelifted. I dont understand why they dont keep their dirty engineering hands off and let the aib do the work. Might even help on kyles temper 🙂
