Any idea why the 8600G is beating the 8700G in several benchmarks in AT's review? Thermal throttling or not enough power available for the extra cores to work properly?

My bad! My bad! They made the new APUs for me. They know how much I love APUs. Everyone is like "What the hell would you use if for?!?" I'm like - "Gaming on something smaller than a Rubik's Cube!"

You guys keep doing your Ferengi math, I'll keep having fun. BTW, Storage review got pretty good overclock results, so there's that too. I'll spend many hours gaming on APU. You will be complaining about how bad PC gaming is, and acting like someone whizzed in your Cheerios. Good luck with that.

Guess that all reviews use a comparable set up as Computerbase, that s good to remove any limitation to check the perfs.

At the same time MBs that could cost more than even the 8700G are pointless in respect of the APUs segmentation wich is to provide a relatively low price point, would be usefull to have reviews with some bottom of the barrel 620 chipset MBs.

Computerbase has the same idle power for the 5x00G and 8x00G when used with only the iGPU, obviously most of the idle power is drained by the MB components.

Also the 8500G is missing in all reviews unless i missed the good one.

You know that AMD APUs are the top sold AMD CPUs in many countries right? They definately are in Latin America and even that German site shows the 5600G as the 3rd one in sales.

In Germany, and more precisely at Mindfactory, the 5600G sales increased hugely because they sold it for 99€ during the week of this report, before it was selling decently but no more, same for the 5700X/5800X wich were sold at 149 and 159€ respectively during this week, to the point that they exhausted the latter s inventory.

At this point the 8600G/8700G are not listed in any shop but likely that they wont sell as hugely if the price is the announced one.

8500g is low-end. That's why.
The simple answer here is that the 8500G do not look good vs the 5600G/3400G/2400G in IGP or vs Intel I3 in CPU why you would want to show that?
Otherwise they would have showed it.

Altrough, i want to see the reviews to be sure.

Wierd, they were clearing stock of the 5600G ahead of the 5500GT/5600GT launch?

The 5500GT/5600GT are supposed to have slightly better perfs, so it make sense to get rid of the 5600G as it s surely destined to be EOL.

About the 8500G iGPU it could eventually match the 5700G, or be quite close, because the 8CUs 8600G/5200Mhz RAM has 49/57% better average/min FPs than the 5700G.

Yeah but thats exactly the problem, even if it matches the 5700G, and thats a big if, remember that the 5600G/3400G performs about the same, so we are talking about 3400G/5600G/5700G igp perf at $180 in 2024 in a more expensive platform and the MT perf may not look that good(vs the 5700G/14100/13100) with those low clocked Zen4C cores. This is not something you want to show.

Then they ll have do adjust the price accordingly, from what we know of Zen 4c PHX2 is not meant for DT since it seems to scale horribly past 30W CPU power, that could make a decent everyday low power mini PC if price is right, MT perfs should be in the vicinity of a 5600G but at about half the power.

It's just a 7 mobile cpu upgraded to desktop form factor. Nothing new, unfortunately. Could get from minisforum a minipc with the mobile variant of it set to 65W... Yes, for desktop is the best integrated GPU, but still not at external GPU perf. Need Strix Halo for that

Is it only me that I find the review coverage of 8700G/8600G lackluster ???
Except that the R5 8500G is being ignored for now, not really.

If it was tested by Hardware Unboxed, then the Klingons are probably happy too. :grinning:

Computerbase, classic detailed test as always.

Steve talks too much or grinds, even the crows on the branch know that.

Seems fine to me, it's a niche product that got more than dozen reviews before launch day. Everyone else is probably busy testing their 4080S
If you look back the 2200G/2400G were a huge thing back in the day. so did the 3200G/3400G.

It started with the 4000 series being mia, and the 5000 series being meh. And im still conviced that back in the day AMD didnt like the 5600G/5700G to be compared to the older APUs.
