Could be worse, My 6 month old 940 can't even touch 3.6, it needs 1.5v just to hit 3.5, and even with my giant Sunbeam CCF 120 hits 70* under Prime at 3.5

My Phenom II X4 940 does 3.4Ghz @ 1.325V, 3.5Ghz @ 1.375, 3.6Ghz @ 1.425, 3.7 can't get into Windows under 1.5V and even 1.55V crashes Prime95 in under a minute.

I've been thinking of replacing an Athlon II with a Phenom II, but with so many higher clocked Phenoms out I've been wondering how well the 955 clocks, but it seems to be just as good as a 970 which is promising.

What was that sticky thread about overclocking the Phenom !!s? Maybe it's because I'm tired but search doesn't find it for me. A link would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Nice OC, i ran my 955 at 3.8 for a while until my 4800x2 gave out in the kid's PC and forced an early house hold upgrade cycle :) to the 1055 in my sig.

My 965 X4 runs at 4.0GHz on air, cool as a cucumber.

Nice! I have a feeling that some of the current 955's are just down-binned 965's or even 970's. They've been at this Fab process for awhile now. I have to think there's some really good OCers out there still for sale. This chip will hold me for awhile. Quad core at 4GHz is a nice piece.

Mine is pretty similar to your's. I run 1.4x volts and 3.6GHz is rock solid. I have a massive copper cooler, but even at 1.5+ volts anything above 3.6GHz is just a no-go.

I could get a newer chip, but I figure the cost and trouble for a few hundred more MHz really isn't worth it. I'm still running an AM2+ board and DDR2. I really can't complain, while it's not speed demon compared to the current stuff, especially the Intel stuff, I have got my money's worth and then some. This board has seen three different video cards and then a fourth for Crossfire. It has also seen two different CPU's and went happily from 4GB to 8GB of memory.

I'll probably recycle it for HTPC use with a downclock and drop in voltage, or for my son. Sometimes there is worth and value beyond pure speed.
