Get AMD TB1000 and a ABIT KT7A-100 board and how much does that cost. Now it's a fact that TB1000 kicks P3-1000's ass in most applications.
And if you wanna talk P4 with me, then consider the cost for upgrading and then consider what happens at the end of this year when your motherboard is phased out. There will be a "second phase" of P4's around Q3 this year and they use different socket.
Now..to put in a final word, you just have to check this review..and this particular page. I know it doens't say everything, but it says enough already:

They pay me big time with rock solid performance and great support. if you knew what I had in this setup you would throw your T-Bird away. I have 580 total cost in the upgrade thats CPU, 128 megs Rdram and Asus P$T motherboard LOL!!!!!!!! It will smoke any T-bird period.
NOS: i have to agree with you on that point you. To upgrade to a decent tbird system you would be spending $175 for the KT7A-Raid and another $330 for your 255mhz 1.2ghz tbird, hmm i think we may need some ram there. So lets say another $75 for some of that Mosel CAS2 thats rated to 143mhz. It comes up to $580, now why in my right mind whould I pay $580 for something that underperforms a P4? Hmm 1.2ghz tbird or P4 1.4ghz for same price....hmmmm
And please don't anyone give me the crap about having to upgrade your power supply and your case,etc..etc..blah..blah

I would like someone can show me a 3dmark score higher that 9200 using a non-ultra card and then factor in the fact that 3dMark 2000 isn't designed for DirectX 8, just imagine what it can do. Then again who knows what AMD new cpu will/can do? But thats how many months away?
I would like to make this offer to everyone. You tell me what programs to use to benchmark my system. What we need is a damn standard around here.

JoeDaddy thats a smokin setup you have there do I smell raid ???? You got me beat your memory can clock higher than my NEC. But the USPS is bringing me some of that Samsung tomorrow so this will all change. I think my CPU is a jewel beause slowing the memory allows me 1708 and maybe more with good memory and a descent cooler you wouldn't believe this bony one I have now. I'm gonna wait for the good cooler companies to bring out there cooler like maybe a Alpha or something this one cost me a whopping $9 LOL!!!!!!!!

I don't see how its even CLOSE to being the same price. The 1.5Ghz is listed at $755 on pricewatch, add that with the board, RAMBUS ram and a new powersupply. I can purchase two 1.2Ghz Tbird, motherboard & ram combos with some money left over to get some quality sound cards.
Its simply the fact that these 1.5 P4's aren't extremely attractive nor do they really outpreform the Tbird even with their high clock speed. Granted that you get nice results in Sisoft Sandra, but most real hardware enthusiasts know that Sisoft Sandra isn't a reliable nor a real rendition of the performance. Real world applications is what counts. The fact is, the Tbird FPU is still much more powerful than any Intel alternative.
What a dork who said I bought it off pricewatch !!!!!!!! Who cares you could offer me 2 full t-bird systems for my P-4 and I would say no way get thats flaky sh!t outta here. Also why are you talking about a 1.4 and quoting a 1.5 you are so full of sh!t !!!!!

Damn it Dexion, I told you that you don't have to buy a new power supply or case. I'm using my old 300 watt Sparkle PS and it works just fine.
