Ok, so maybe you got a bad motherboard, try returning it or RMA is or something and get a MSI board.

BTW buesinesses do not use AMD because they are DELL zealots which in turn are INTEL zealots.

This is just BS, just because you cannot get your setup right, does that mean that no one can ever build a stable AMD/VIA setup?? Nope, it means that: either your mobo is flawed or you just do not know how to get it right.

I still think that the problem is crap behind the keyboard.

another vote for user error/defective board mine is every bit as solid as my compaq deskpro workstation running an 815 board w/ p3 733. When I had windows ME on it, it was a joke, but its a rock running windowss 2000.
 
No problems with Via chipsets here...I'm runnin a Asus P3V4X, but with a P3 700 @ 980. Granted it took some tweaking and messing around to get it working properly, but once you get it set up properly it is just as stable as any Intel board.

Come on, you bust in here and say to everybody that AMD sucks, let's not buy it, Intel all the way, when in fact you only try one motherboard, out of tens (and may even be defective, on both parts, you know what I'm talking about), and you have the gall to even assume that one crappy motherboard defines all motherboards? I'm working fine with a Duron and a K7T Pro.

Just because one of your turds doesn't look right doesn't mean that your anus has problems, God damn it.

Correct. I like AMD to play around with but I cannot afford downtime to &quot;get things just right&quot;. I run a Compaq house but we have quite a few clones and absolutely NO AMD in our 600 computer network nor will we. I spec them and ultimately it's my choice. Love tweaking at home but I have FAR better things to do at work.

Budman: that's nice...I see Dual Xeon's running all the major stuff...interesting. Anything can be made into a web server...even a pizza box (I'd link it if I could)

Notice the forum you're posting on right now? You know there is a server behind this right? Well guess what? It's based on the MSI K7T Pro motherboard with AMD solution.

And i just finished off the last user policy settings on a 150+ net, all running Linux, all running AMD/VIA and all stable...

If you were to do the same tweaking with your office machine it would probable be just as stable as your home computer...

AMD/VIA is just as stable as any Intel/Intel setup, you just have to know how to do it right.

Unstable AMD/Via systems only occurs when you have flawed HW or bad techies. If you want a really good techie, contact me, i will get you a AMD/Via or AMD/pcres setup that will run rock stable(Hey, never knock free advertising, right).

You just gave the best explanation why AMD systems aren't widely used in the businesses. It's the people making the decisons that are the real problem, not the hardware.:disgust:
 
No, in a business you don't screw around with inferior hardware just to be &quot;cool&quot; by not running the mainstream stuff. Get a job doing this, and you'd find out REAL quick that you'd rather be supporting Intel stuff.

That's all beside the point though. Fact is, I DO know what I'm doing, and I'm quite tired of and surprised by the overwhelmingly rude response this has gotten. If it makes you feel better to think an AMD solution is just as good as Intel, go right ahead. Not one of you has actually been able to diagnose the problem, despite what amazing hardware guros you all are 🙄 . No, it must be my fault. I'm tired of this thread.

heh, I'm not the one who's not able to set up an AMD system. I've built a few recently and they all worked perfectly from the start.(heck, it has to be luck, because ALL AMD systems are crap right?) And as for not being able to fix your problems, I honestly don't care, but if you want it fixed, just send it to me and I'll set it up properly for you, with all that luck I have...🙂

And I do agree with one thing Robotnik said: why do I bother with this thread? Let it die people, he's already convinced.

Well then, i guess that i'm real stupid, cause i mainly deliver AMD systems for offices. Funny thing though, i can get them stable too... Maybe i'm not the stupid one...

I never had an AMD system before. I always had intel. Well... my AMD duron system works great! Ir is better than my intel ever was. I ahve built 4 for friends and now I am doing a fifth. I have not had any problems so far. I am sorry to see that you have had a bad experience. There are a lot of people with intel systems that have bad experiences too. It might not be AMD. Ir could be your ram (was it AMD tested), it could be your power supply (is it on the AMD approved list) or it could be a bad motherboard. I have mushkin AMD tested ram, an AMD approved power supply and an abit kt7. All the systems I have built have been the exact same. I really am sorry to hear yours is not to your liking but it may not be the fault of AMD.
