After bad earnings (really bad: revenue -40%, unit shipment -43%, ASP +5%) from last quarter, AMD has finally made up their minds to officially drop their CPU prices

Old priceNew Price
5600X$299$159
5800X$449$249
5800X3D$449$329 -> $379
5900X$549$349
5950X$799$549 -> $499

In China, upcoming 11.11 shopping festival is the days you see biggest discount of whole year. AMD takes opportunity to offer great discounts on new CPU as well. Below is converted USD prices for future reference which AMD may make it permanent if sales keep on dropping😉

Official US Price
(Nov Price Cut)
7600$229
7600X$249
7700$329
7700X$349
7800X3D?
7900$429
7900X$474
7900X3D?
7950X$574
7950X3D?

>>Dude is either a "extreme value seeker", or has some kind of OCD price hang-up over $5 - $10.

Yep, I always try to use a coupon, always tried to go to a movie on 'half price' night, etc., and I found a grocery that has 'scratch & dent' stuff marked down about 40% on average.
Our local Aunt Millie's bakery outlet closed down during the pandemic, and now I have to pay regular price for bread, instead of 80 cents, ugh.
Or make your own for about 40 cents a loaf...

Clearly an example of self-depravation taught at an early age; very typical of so-called "Christian" families, as an example of false humility.

I was never allowed to eat marischino cherries on ice cream Sundays. Told that I would get cancer.

Now that I've grown up, I've adopted a more Hedonistic approach. If I can afford it, if I want it, and the price is "in the ball-park" I buy it and just enjoy it, rather than worry about yet another time to "prove" that you're a humble and therefore "worthy" person by choosing depravation.

Look at what the "depravation mindset" gets priests...
There is this "entity" in my head constantly urging me to upgrade to 5950X from 2700X even though I am perfectly happy with 2700X performance. I don't know how long I can contain this entity before it gets hold of me. :innocent::innocent::innocent:

Same, except I'm on a 2600X and thinking about a 5900X or a 5800X3D. I'd probably pick the 5900X for handbrake reasons and I don't play any newer titles.

That new 5700g price at Amazon is very tempting as an upgrade from my 2700x. It would free up an x16 slot in my server and bring better overall performance. $189 for a decent 8 core with a usable iGPU...
I have been impressed with my 5700G, and it is easy to keep cool. Even at stock settings.

Post it in Hot Deals!
Agree.

Antonline has some really good CPU pricing from time to time. The 7900X is also priced pretty good at $465.

Too bad Slickdeals won't allow any links to them (I think it has to do with the affiliate kickback they don't get).

AMD also has a deal going right now where you get a copy of `UNCHARTED™: Legacy of Thieves Collection!` with the purchase of a new 5000 series processor.

I actually didn't know about it until I received the key this morning in my email from Amazon.

Now we need cheaper motherboards and price drops for DDR5 and AM5 will vastly outsell AM4.

especially given how most of them from b650 line cut corners in features, in some aspects even downgraded compared to am4 counterparts.

- high idle power consumption compared to am4 and especially intel
- low end audio codecs
- low speed usb ports , only one 20Gbs port, no usb4 in sight.
- only about 6400 DDR5 speeds supported. We will see how future proof that mobo will be when zen 5 might double the cores creating bandwidth pressure and DDR5 sticks speeds will reach 8000 10000...

The DDR5 support also depends on the CPU. If new(er) Zen 4 and Zen 5 are validated for higher DDR5 speeds, it's possible that b650 boards might support those higher specced memory speeds.

Yeah of course it is possible. I was out of loop, Anyone care to remind how that aspect played out in earlier am4 boards and ddr4memory? Did agesa / newer ryzens unlocked higher supported ddr speeds for lets say earlier B series am4 boards egible for cpu upgrde ? roughly, whats was possible memory upgrade path with that? curious what is the precedent with that aspect.

Anyway boards are horrible overpriced given mentioned cut corners, even those few which skimped on pcie5. Personally, I would buy for maybe little more than half the price what they are asking.

They failed to see the increased revenue and profits of the past couple yrs as a temporary accidental bonus and began counting on it as the new reality. They will pay dearly for the hubris.

Some boards did get access to higher speeds as they became available for the 400 and 500 series boards. It was up to the motherboard manufacturer to allow those speeds. Which sometimes did come down to the board actually being able to handle those higher speeds. The motherboard makers typically have a list of supported rams and speeds. Using an unsupported speed may work fine, but your mileage may vary.

If a brand new board supports say 6400, but the fastest out right now is 7200 (just throwing out numbers), its possible the motherboard maker is purposely trying to segment their boards. If you want the higher speed to be officially supported, you need to pay up for the X-series board. But that doesn't mean the higher speed RAM won't work in the B-series if it allows you to manually configure the speeds.

Typo Fix: I wrote Z-Series, I meant X-Series. Not intel here 🙂

Got it. Your mileage may vary and better chance was with X series.

Glancing at current b650 offerings, 6400 is common "supported" speed. Wonder if currently supported by EXPO or what you see is what you get. Given how greedy mobo makers picked realtek 897 with only two audio jacks in these 200-300$ boards im not optymistic.

In this case, notion of am5 b650 (even x) practical upgradability gets muddy to me. Sure there will be cpu upgrades but how much will it be handicapped running with quite lowly 6400ddr in three years. I have a hunch that newer wider cpu with more cores and rumored accelerators will respond nicely to increased bandwidth. Projections put even ddr5 12000 speeds down the line. It would be pity to be stuck with around half of that paying 250+ for the board. Maybe that's exactly the plan looking at current "segmentation" 101.

Microcenter is matching Newegg prices... and throwing in 32GB of G.Skill FlareX DDR5-6000 memory on top.

Ryzen 9 7950X $574 (includes 32GB DDR5-6000)
Ryzen 9 7900X $474 (includes 32GB DDR5-6000)
Ryzen 7 7700X $349 (includes 32GB DDR5-6000)

Insane value for the new chips. Wish I had a Microcenter nearby.
