The requirement of an all AMD rig will probably make it pretty useless to most of us though.

I am not so sure about what you mean by most. 90%? 51%? Or a 'Clinton' definition meaning 40%?

I was rather dubious when AMD and ATI 'merged', but we are already starting to see the benefits to gaming with the 790GX chipset and the Hybrid Crossfire concept. But of course, this will mean nothing the the Intel-only-fanboys, since they already refuse to buy AMD products and now will also refuse to buy ATI products. My next major upgrade will be a 790GX motherboard or whatever follows it, depends on how soon I decide to upgrade my video card. Unless some Hot Deals come along, I might be lazy and just wait until the next crop of games run poorly on my current setup which may be a long time from now.

I like the ability it has to shut down background processes with one button. I could really use something like that but I have an AMD CPU/Nvidia GPU rig. Blah.

I think the problem is that peeps like me who are getting Intel Procs and ATi cards, will be most screwed over when it comes to this.

Couldn't someone just find out what processes get shut down and make a list somewhere then post it for the rest to see? I think Radified had something like this.

i think the idea is that you shut down the processes while gaming and then you can turn them back on with one click

"Most of us", meaning the majority that either do not have an AMD cpu OR an ATI video card.

According to the Steam hardware survey, video driver name "nv4_disp.dll" outnumbers "ati2dvag.dll" 48.21% to 27.10%, and "GenuineIntel" outnumbers "AuthenticAMD" 58.58% to 41.41%.

According to GPU-Z statistics, NVIDIA gpus outnumber ATI 61% to 35%.

It has nothing to do with fanboys, just a simple fact that Intel and NVIDIA have more market share in their respective areas than AMD or ATI. So, it stands to reason that if the requirement is both an AMD GPU AND CPU, the amount of consumers actually being able to take advantage of the software will be in the minority.

Which is strange how exactly?

I myself wonder what the reason behind the AMD platforum requirement is. Is it because it won't work otherwise? Or is it just a way to keep intel/nvidia users out? If so, it can be hacked :p

There's nothing at all wrong with it. Although Derek makes some good arguments for AMD broadening the Fusion tool work with Intel/NVIDIA hardware.

I've briefly looked around but haven't found any other tool like this out there. AMD has the opportunity to really fill a niche here. If they position themselves as the standard for this type of software, they stand to benefit quite a bit from it. We do understand the platform focus, but there is a major branding opportunity here if they open up a cut down version of the software to all gamers. Imagine if every Intel + NVIDIA system had an AMD button sitting on the desktop. That wouldn't be a bad move for AMD by a long shot.

Looks almost worthless to me. It shuts down processes that don't need to be shut down, then overclocks via software. I don't trust software overclocking, and will only do that when necessary(gfx card). Overclocking is best done through BIOS, and if you don't understand the principles you shouldn't be doing with software or BIOS tweaks.

Um...so you would suggest they should be improving their competitors' products? Please explain why that makes sense.

Intelians and nvidians want to put this tool into use already and is in beta lol... Dont think AMD is going to do them that favor at all...
