despite the photographs on review sites, the X120e battery *is* flush with the back of the case. at least mine is.

unfortunately, that's all the reviewing I can do because my usb cdrom shipment got delayed ><

The 3 cell battery (32w/h) is a flush fit as to where the 6 cell battery (56w/h) sticks out.

Isn't the 3-cell 40Whr, something like that?

Anyway, just installed Win 7 on mine X120e, really nice little machine. The E-350 is brilliant, feels quite a bit snappier than the N450 in my previous netbook. :)

the order page says 40kwh but apparently the real units are 32

Interestingly my wife won me a Sony 11.6" laptop with an AMD E-350. I have an Acer 1410 (Core Solo SU3500--snappy little machine) so it may be redundant. I have been shopping for a Tablet PC (HP Smart Touch, Dell Duo) that will function in portrait mode so when I receive my Sony I will likely offer a good deal. I will post a link to the W/S/T forum when this happens.

Do you have a usb flash drive? You easily load windows 7 from a flash drive, if that is holding up your testing.
that's what I ended up doing.

loving my x120e so far, it's doing exactly what I need it to without complaining (whereas my previous netbook would grind to a halt while loading iTunes or something).

on a side-note, though, the sleeve that IBM sells for it is garbage. it's easily like 3" too big and my netbook just kinda flops around inside of it. I can fit my netbook, power cable, and a usb cdrom all inside the sleeve and still comfortably zip it shut :|

i'm thinking of getting the sling case for it.

You have the 3-cell, though, right? I was hoping since the 6-cell sticks out and adds a bit of extra length it might be more snug, but sounds like it will still be pretty roomy inside there. Hopefully it isn't too loose.

So, MSI and Sony's Brazos laptops reviewed.. Still looks like the DM1Z or the Asus 1215B will be a better buy. Although; I was pretty set on one of those two but looking closer I now feel the only reason not to go with the "last gen" Asus U30Jc is ~1 LB heavier and about $200 more. That's certainly not insignificant, but performance is much better, and battery life almost the same.

Or am I missing something here? Especially that the battery life is so close seems strange, since the U30Jc is not even a ULV. If Sandy Bridge ULVs come out soon maybe the last gen "affordable thin & light" will drop some in price?

edit before anyone say it; yes I know, apples, oranges etc. But I feel for my use these are both ok, and reasonably comparable, so it's just down to whether the price is worth it the better performance. And I'm increasingly starting to think it might be.

It's simply the form factor. I find a standard 13" laptop too bulky for what I need... basically web access on the go. I don't need to do anything intensive, I just want portability. And I want it for cheap or else I'd get a better balance, for me, w/ an 11" macbook air.

I'm hoping Sandy Bridge ULV's can drive the E350 systems down in price. Or if priced well, and are slim 13", I'll trade take the tradeoff and go sandy bridge ULV. Now waiting to see what dell supposedly has planned for April, heh.

ASUS 12" Fusion ultraportable (1215B) is now listed on NewEgg, Amazon, and other stores. Not in stock yet, but hopefully it will be soon for those who have been waiting for this. :)

I read quite a few stories about bad/flimsy power plug on the old Asus 1215N, and the 1215B seems to be the same design so I decided to stop waiting for the asus and go with the dm1z instead. Ordered one earlier.

Right now coupon code NB5751 takes $50 off which brings it to $399 before tax on HP's site! http://www.techbargains.com/news_displayItem.cfm/247398
Pretty good deal if you ask me! Expected build date is April 15th though:(

Wow. I can't believe ASUS hasn't improved the power jack (if they really haven't). If that's true, that's just pathetic. I know the jack on the 1015PEM is bad too. Perhaps every ASUS is that way. Surely they've gotten enough complaints on it.

Just to be clear I don't actually know that the power plug is bad/flimsy. I (and others) are basing that on the reports from the 1215n, and the similarities in design between the "N" and "B" models. But it should be available now right so maybe some reviews can check this for us? Or it might be a while until people use these for a while and we start to see problems.

In any case personally I ordered a HP dm1z for $425 with the code from techbargins.com, so I'll never know:D

Check the EEEUser forums....all of them complain of the 1215N and I'm pretty sure the chassis is the same for all of the general laptops that are 12 inches.

Got the Lenovo x120e here last week. Ordered it through CDW which had the model or configuration I wanted in-stock. The 10-day estimates on Lenovo just didn't work for me since I'm leaving on vacation this week.

After getting all the updates installed, and changing a few settings in regards to the touchpad, this lappy is working great for me. Was waiting for the x220s, but after seeing the pricing, I couldn't rationalize spending that amount of money for what I was going to do with it.

anyojne notice that the x120e runs the fan all the time. it is a lot noisier than my desktop pc. i mean its not horribly noisy, but if you have it in a pretty quiet room its obvious it is on from even like 10 feet away.

Mine doesn't seem to ramp up too bad just with basic web browsing, but on more flash heavy sites or doing other stuff that really loads the CPU or GPU, it definitely does. Like you said it's not terrible, but not silent either. It's kind of silly because I've never seen the APU temps in HWMonitor get above like 60*C, I'm sure they could easily get away with making the fan run a bit slower. Would be nice if Lenovo had a utility like on the dm1z that allowed you to choose between different fan profiles.

One other thing I just recently noticed with mine was stuttering audio after resuming from sleep. If anybody is having this issue, try updating to the latest BIOS. Lenovo released one a few days ago that seems to have fixed the problem.
