Gateway - Laptop / AMD C-Series Processor / 15.6" Display / 3GB Memory / 320GB Hard Drive

Just got this. Two reasons...

1) dual gigahertz cpus probably isn't that much slower vs e350. It was cheap. 15.6 screen is the right size for me. Not too big yet not too small to surf the web. Runs @ 9 watts should stay cool and has a dvd player.

2) when I stop traveling, I can get a real desk top with a 24/32" screen, I'll reformat it and install linux with XBMC and use it to play 1080P via HDMI.

If anyone wants me to test something on it. Let me know... It's still in the box, but I'll probably look at it tomorrow and start selling off my main rig. Next week sometime. I'm gonna miss my Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24 inch sigh.

I was surprised that the dm1z doesn't seem available to third parties (eg: amazon/bestbuy)... I've got a stupid $400 amex gift card that I'd love to burn

The keyboard is not backlit for the Vaio YB.

you might be right about the vaio yb, or you might be wrong
here is a horrible terrible bad review of the yb by jazz. after reviewing the yb he responds to comments and says it has a backlit keyboard

http://mobilityupdate.com/netbooks/sony-vaio-yb-review/

here is the tigerdirect sales link of the yb, and in the description it lists backlit keyboard

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...615&CatId=4013

then again, if you check out the sales links for the yb from newegg in the original post in this thread, no mention of the backlit keyboard in the description, but it might be there in a buyer review
if all the yb models have backlit keyboard, it is rarely marketed

i hopefully say all the yb laptops have backlit

You can get it from Amazon Direct price looks like $600 from them, but you can get it for $550 if you look at one of the resellers on that page (unless they're charging $50 for shipping!).

I could only find the BZ-499 from Canadian retailers so I assume that they're different models based on region? Maybe?

OMG on the lenovo EPP site, there is an optoion to get "thinkpad PC dos" with your X120e.

it subtracts $127 from the price!!!!!

so an x120e, with e-350 , 2gb, ram and 250gb is $299.

that's sad, I don't see any such option on the non-EPP site. would probably tip the scales for me in lenovo's favor over HP (where I do get an EPP discount and a same-spec'd dm1z ends up being like $100+ cheaper)

yeah i tried the borders thing for the HP and could only get liek $22 off.

i just ordered my windows OS less x120e. $329 and change, after tax!!! i hope they ship it, on the emplloyee site, there is no option to remove windows on anything but the x120e so i'm not holding my breath

I came here to post that, really hot deal when you subtract the Windows license. I picked up an X120e with E-350 and 6-cell battery for like $360 after taxes and everything (also had a 5% off coupon USXFEBSAVINGS2011 and ordered it through lenovo.com/visa). Just going to load an MSDN AA copy of Win 7 on it.

it wouldn't let me check out with the usxfebsavings2011 code.

seems that is really just for the X201,

i have msdn also so i was going to do that as well. how did you get the 5% off to work? at both sites, whenever i add it it says
"Cannot order cart that has invalid prices."

UPDATE: weird, for some reason it just says invalid prices on the config i ordered. if you go with anything over the bare minimum like say adding a bluetooth dongle, you can get the 5% off.

It's not EPP only. When you go to customize, select the cheaper base model. It should have the option for the PC Dos license. It seems that the one that starts at $450 doesn't have this option, though.

edit: Odd, it doesn't work when you order through lenovo.com. But ordering through lenovo.com/visa the PC DOS license option showed up for me. No need for an EPP account unless this was a mistake or something (hopefully not).

Yeah there might be a minimum requirement for the price, $300 before taxes or something like that.

yeah i figured that.

like the config i did was e-350, 2gb , 250gb. so really the only worthwhile things to add over that are either the battery or the bluetooth.

everything else is overpriced.

but im too lazy to cancel my order and really draw attention to this deal just to get bluetooth for $5 (which is basically the cost difference if i add it and then use the discount). lets cross our fingers and hope this ships.

it works on the visa / epp sites.

but if you go to the normal main site, there no way to put PC DOS. at least i havent figuredit out.

ig uess its all the sites on the i2.com domain have the PC DOS. lenovo.com doesnt.

/confirmed

shoplenovo.i2.com to buy it sans OS

edit: I went in on the X120e... $389.91 after tax with no OS, but I threw in a sleeve and an extra power cord (I like having two cords so I can leave one at my desk at work full-time)

This sucks...I ordered my HP DM1z thinking I'd have to wait until March 8th for this then they release it early and coincidentally they ship my DM1z on the same day...I could've saved some money. Oh well. Either way, I know the HP will make me happy.
