I can see quite a few reasons for and against both methods. If mobo pins are as durable as the Socket A pins (used 4-5 Socket A CPU's and no bent pins), then Id be happy to have a pinned mobo. In general, my boards last 2 cpu's so cpu cost outweighs motherboard cost. Much more hassle changing a mobo because of a broken pin but it would probably end up cheaper in the end.
Although.... what is the biggest cause of bent cpu pin syndrome (BCPS)? Id have thought that most BCPS cases would be caused by poor packaging/handling in transportation. Would putting the pins on the mobo be any better in that respect? Perhaps better methods of cpu pin protection should be implemented.
This suggestion is awful since I hated my Slot A Athlon and I hate the Slot 1 P3 Ive just got for heatsink reasons but.... the slot idea was rather cool. No risk of bent pins there. Apart from the obvious heatsink design reason, why didnt the Slot series of CPU make such an impact?
