Why is amd making there new cpu's with pins intel is not. i think no pins is betr because it is less likely of being damaged.

I know amd want it to be compatible with older mobos but they can make 2 difrent kinds one with pins one with not.

that would be nice, but ive never had an issue with damaging a cpu my bending pins or something. you just have to be careful. sorry to hear what happened to you screensavers.

Why is Intel making processors that take so much power and so much heat? AMD is making cool and quiet processors, so why can't Intel make 2 kinds of Pentium 4s? Hot and power consuming and Cool and quiet?

on a ten speed bike there are the ten speeds, the lowest speed you can pedal like a madman but you dont get very far and on the highest speed you pedal like the same madman but you get alot farther, AMD is like the higher speed

intel may be very fast but AMD gets more done (in a shrter amount of time)

If you are sitting in front of your computer with a great big bowl of your favorite ice cream, you dont want a teaspoon, you want somthing a little bit bigger to shovel it in.
I hope that this makes some sort of sence

You realize there are still pins, right? They're just in the motherboard socket now...which means they can still be bent.

LGA 775 is more fragile than any other socket type used by intel or amd, if a pin is bent or broken, you have to replace your motherboard, thats a much bigger pain that just replacing or repairing a cpu. read through anandtech's earily articles on skt 775, and you'll see how fragile it is., so the processor is a bit tougher, I'm personaly more worried about the motherboard (hell my motherboard cost more than my processor lol)

It is less likely of being bent on the mobo scince ur hand is not rapping around it or in ur whole entire hand. And its not removeable. so again it is less likely to be bent on the mobo then on the cpu.

While the pins are now on the motherboard rather than the CPU for LGA775..the pins on the motherboard are a lot more fragile than the pins that were actualy on the CPU, and they tend to break off rather than bend..I liked it better having the pins on the CPU. Some of the pins broke on my LGA775 motherboard after only the 3rd installation, I've never had a pin break off of a cpu. Doesn't really matter now though, cause my water cooling sprung a leak and fried the motherboard :( Even an XP-120 couldn't keep the freakin thing from throttling, so I pretty much had to water cool it. Oh well, my X2 is faster anyway.

Not that I'm an Intel fan (definately not), but one advantage to having the pins in the socket and using high end processors is: If you do fvck up the pins, your only replacing a $150 mobo not a $1000 CPU

Which would you rather send back, a motherboard, or a CPU?
CPU is cheaper to send back for YOU.
CPU is easier to send back, for YOU (ie: mobo needs to be removed from the case and everything taken off it and unplugged, CPU is much simpler to remove).
TBH, there's no real advantage of LGA processors, if you are careful (as you should be when dealing with something smaller than your hand and probably worth easily $100+), and if you are careless, then it's easier to send back the CPU.

Only problem is that Intel's 1000 dollar CPU is a peice of crap while AMD's is a pile of gold.

Wow are you trying to put a 478 in a Slot 1 or something? Whole hand rapping around it? :Q Why not just use a darn hammer.

Largely because they haven't been able to gear up for a move to LGA, I'd think. Suprisingly, the LGA sockets have proven quite durable (for on thing, they arent' straight, ZIF-like pins, and you won't do much more than push straight down on them), and cuts down on CPU cost...but I doubt AMD will be able to implement something like that without at least a year or two of work--if they do it at all.
