But with the popularity of expensive quiet fans (see this thread http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2031229) I wonder how practical fully utilizing a Tower really is for 24/7 OC.

Furthermore, I wonder what is a better heat exchanger (air or water) with lower and more realistic airflow totals.

If noise (at high airflow) wasn't a real problem there wouldn't be an aftermarket for the very pricey fans in that thread.

I have no idea what you mean about fans or the practicality...Mine is 100%loaded and OC'ed to 3.9 24/7, its quiet, and cool.

As for what is a better heat exchanger, most heatpipe coolers use a special fluid to transfer the heat, so actually, they both use fluids. And my fan is $10. I have no idea what you are talking about "pricey"

Well, my BIG air cooler uses virtually NO power. I have a 300 rpm 5 volt fan. Its almost fanless. Probably takes 1 watt or something > Bet less than the setup you are talking about. Just moving water takes power, even a little water.

I wonder how well these Tower coolers like Megahalems really do when people run the fans down low for 24/7. 300 rpm is far below the Corsair radiator capability.

OK, What is your point ????? I already said, it runs cool, and quiet, and its always OC'ed, and always loaded.

I should add tha its in an Antec 900, and the fan is blowing up, and the Antec case fan is also blowing up, so its close to push/pull.

I believe we will see official reviews next month.

At stock speeds I would say Core i5 750 will easily beat Core i3 530 in every benchmark. The Turbo mode and extra L3 cache will probably add quite a bit to scores.

Now as far as the "gaming market" goes where overclocking predominates things should be more interesting. In fact, I am thinking an Overclocked Core i3 could give Overclocked Phenom II/Athlon II a real run for the money.

Core i3 may do worse than Phenom II. In fact, it has less L3 cache than either Core i5 and Phenom II.

Furthermore Core i3 may not even Overclock as well as the other 32nm chip (Gulftown ES, 4.6 Ghz @ 1.344 volts) due to the fact it is a budget design.

In this review the picture is a little different. In fact, it seems Core i7 is beating Phenom II by quite a bit.

Xbitlabs is in the top 3 review sites list on the whole internet that horsebeats AMD in almost everything. If you digg further in the internet you will find much more balanced, technical, careful and superior reviews.

I looked that up. There is a fan for the radiator, and then a motor for the pump. This is more expensive than my megahalems cooler, and I venture to say from my watercooling knowledge that it won't cool as large a cpu. Why use it ? More expensive, doesn't work as well, and the same or noisier.

I agree. Watercooling is highly overrated IMHO. I used to run a custom made Petra's sourced quality watercooling setup with 3 times the radiator area of that setup.

Just looking at that radiator I can assure myself that there are many air coolers with greater surface area for heat dissipation. Sure the radiator is outside the case but they still need fans with high static pressure to operate effectively and those are noisy. With well thought out air flow in a case and a HS with spaced out fins like the megahalem could possibly beat a little WC kit like that and do it more quietly.

I just found the World Record database for Core i3 overclocks and things are not looking good for this small chip.

Granted there were only a a few entries using air....but the vcore needed to achieve anything over 4 Ghz looked ridiculous.

Hopefully it's just the ES, but I'm not surprised. The more and more you integrate things, the more chance there is for any one weak part to hold the whole shebang back.
