chimaxi, I am curious what settings and options/performance you get in WoT with similar specs to me. Note I have a slightly greater resolution, and my crossfire setup isn't as high end as yours. I still get poor performance and FPS drops at times.

Device Manager shows a driver date of 2.15.13 but it shows version 12.100.17.0, which is Beta 5. I have already tried uninstalling and updating manually to no avail.

Anybody else seeing this?

I also got zero difference over 'Beta 5' in the benchmarks that I ran, including Valley. :\

Odd, Device Manager shows me the same thing. I know something's different under the hood over beta 3 as reflected in my Unigine Valley benchmark; I didn't install betas 4 or 5, but Valley was not noted in the release notes for those.

definitely a noticable difference in smoothness in skyrim for me. I'm not sure how much of that is my new 3570k though. Last week on my i5 750 and beta 5 it wasn't this smooth even though it was a constant 60fps.

Hey Shmee, well first off, the game doesn't support multi GPU right now. Test server says it supports SLI, nothing about Crossfire. That's not in the public build yet though. Also, the game only supports one thread. I've noticed almost all of my slowdowns coincide with CPU usage on that thread spiking to 100%, or close up smoke effects. My 3770K is currently at stock, just got a new cooler today though so I'll see if an overclock helps the slowdowns. I do have everything pretty much maxed out, other than FXAA set to low. Here are my settings:

It is your CPU, that was a big upgrade.

Huh. So no Unigine Heaven improvement specifically noted. I wonder why I got it, then?

anyone able to comment on the reduction of flickering? I am getting flickering intermittently in Borderlands 2. When it happens its pretty bad, but I cant reproduce the problem. It just happens sporadically. very rarely, actually. I can play for hours and not see it. I have an extremely mild overclock on my card (actually its just the "bios 2" for the sapphire card which is probably the spec its designed to run at) and it can benchmark for hours without failing so I dont think that is the reason for it.

also, I'll be installing the drivers tonight and gaming for hours to test it =)

edit: and by flickering I mean artifacting.

What drivers are you currently using?

Since when does a $400 card compete with a $900 one? Not sure that theory makes sense to be honest. Why would AMD have gimped their drivers since their poor driver performance is what forced them to cut prices on HD7970 when GTX680 launched? If their drivers were up to par back then, they wouldn't have been forced to drop prices so dramatically after 670/680 cards launched given where a 925mhz 7970 sits now.
http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/grafikkarten/2013/test-17-grafikkarten-im-vergleich/3/

Also, when HD7970 cards launched, CF performance was very poor and there were many other issues. I think that negatively impacts the user experience and tarnishes the reputation. I don't think AMD would do such a thing on purpose just for some 10,000 unit halo card.

You think AMD purposely held back performance on HD7000 cards? You think they are that sadistic to their customers?

Who the hell would be playing these newer games on RC11 drivers, when these games came out much later on? Also, new kinds of games usually need intensive driver optimization, so there's usually a much improved driver version that's already available even before the game is officially launched, thanks to the driver team working with the developer during beta process.

Not [H] at all to me.. :whiste:

Just tested Unigine Valley 1.0 with these new 13.2 Beta 6 and here's the results compared to the 13.2 Beta 5:

***Gigabyte HD 7950 WF3 3gb / Bios FZ1 / 1150/1450***

13.2 Beta 5
Valley 1.0 - ExtremeHD Preset

Score: 1672
FPS: 40.0
MIN: 20.0
MAX: 74.7
Temps (GPU/VRM1/VRM2): 64/80/84

13.2 Beta 6
Valley 1.0 - ExtremeHD Preset

Score: 1803 - +7.8%
FPS: 43.1 - +7.75%
MIN: 21.3 - +6.5%
MAX: 80.7 - +8%
Temps (GPU/VRM1/VRM2): 66/80/85

Not bad I say!

I also found that Valley 1.0 ExtremeHD performs better with 13.2 beta 6. I was on 13.1 previously, and my score jumped from 30.9 to 34.0, or exactly 10%, on my HD7870@1150/1400. Haven't tested any games yet.

Rhezuss - interesting to compare our cards, basically clock-for-clock. Yours scores 27% faster. Are you using extra voltage? I'm really curious what the power draw is with that type of OC. It surprises me that AMD released the HD7950 at such a low clock (800MHz) - it was far too close to the HD7870 at that setting, but clearly had more potential.

Big increase in Unigine Valley 1.0 confirmed!

1920x1080, High, 8xAA

13.2 WHQL:

Score: 1959
Avg: 46.8
Min: 17.8
Max: 89.3

13.2 Beta 6:

Score: 2178 (11.2%)
Avg: 52.1 (11.3%)
Min: 25.0 (40.4%) <-- This likely due to stuttering in 13.2 WHQL
Max: 101.2 (13.3%)

So an overall increase of about 11% in score and avg fps. Very nice.

So I just installed this after running 12.11 almost since I purchased the card in Dec, and noticed a bit of a bump in Unigine Valley on my 7950 @ 1020 / 1400 .

More noticeable was the GPU temp. With 12.11 it would get up to 60c rather quickly and stay there, but now it only gets up to 57c at scene 16 or 17 out of 18 and stays there. Was there some change in the drivers along the way that lowered temps across the board? Is 57c the max the GPU will get to now, where as before it was 60c?

OK, so I answered the question myself by bumping going from 1020/1400 to 1050/1450. I saw 58c by the end, but the score went down a tiny bit.

So I went up to 1100/1450 and again only saw 58c by the last few scenes, and the score increased a tiny bit again.

Valley 1.0 Ultra @ 1080p

12.11 beta 8 @ 1020/1400

FPS: 40.0
Score: 1672
Min FPS: 20.4
Max FPS: 75.2

13.2 beta 6 @ 1020/1400

FPS: 41.2
Score: 1724
Min FPS: 16.2
Max FPS: 78.2

13.2 beta 6 @ 1050/1450

FPS: 40.8
Score: 1706
Min FPS: 20.6
Max FPS: 75.1

13.2 beta 6 @ 1100/1450

FPS: 41.2
Score: 1722
Min FPS: 20.0
Max FPS: 73.7

Is the FPS really dropping the higher I clock the card?

Ran a couple more in Extreme HD

13.2 beta 6 @ 1020/1400

FPS: 34.9
Score: 1459
Min FPS: 16.9
Max FPS: 65.9

13.2 beta 6 @ 1100/1400

FPS: 35.3
Score: 1479
Min FPS: 17.0
Max FPS: 65.7

13.2 beta 6 @ 1150/1400

FPS: 35.2
Score: 1471
Min FPS: 17.0
Max FPS: 65.6
