I would love to talk a friend of mine into a Bristol Ridge desktop. He watches a lot of internet-based video, and has an Athlon II X4 currently, with a GT610.
What would your friend gain with this ?

Yeah we all have been waiting!! Whats the deal here, where are they?Jeez AMD release something and let us give you our money already..![]()
No reason a 880k should be still selling for $100.00 and same goes for A10-7890k and there FX line. AMD's the ones shooting them self in there own foot.
Once Zen and Bristol Ridge, really AM4, is out, these products will basically be un-sellable.
The problem is, once Zen is out, Bristol Ridge will be a lot less attractive. Raven Ridge is supposed to arrive a few months after Zen, right? People who want an APU will think twice about buying Bristol Ridge when Raven Ridge is around the corner. Meanwhile, people who want an APU now will think twice about buying current ones when Bristol Ridge is already on the market, just not available for DIY builders.
So AMD's strategy in the APU market seems to be anti-DIY. That may be either from assuming that's it's a small market, or because AMD doesn't believe that Bristol Ridge is truly attractive. Of course it's also possible that the problem is just getting the motherboards out.
Sure, but when is Bristol Ridge DIY? November? December? January? AMD has already been teaching us to be patient. If Bristol Ridge DIY is released in January, do you think people will rush to buy it, wait for Raven Ridge, or just buy a low power Summit Ridge with a low power discrete GPU?Raven is 2H 2017, so Q3 at the earliest, Q4 possible.
What would your friend gain with this ?
Lower power consumption
Better video-decoding support
Better platform features (M.2 PCI-E, SATA6G)
Upgradability
(not necessarily in that order)
For video watching, he's better off with an android tv box. It will cost fraction of the price of such build and will consume 10-20x less power while doing the same thing.
Many DIY buyers have turned against APUs to the point that they will never buy them.
I wonder if they are canceling the DIY stuff as it might have been to confusing for the consumers that are wanting to upgrade to Zen? Like maybe AMD is worried that people would confuse Bristol Ridge for Zen and maybe it would give them a bad rep for the AM4 socket since Bristol Ridge would not be that next Gen upgrade everyone is looking for? God I hope that's not the case? I don't know maybe I'm just being to paranoid. But you never can tell with AMD,they always keep ya guessing.
Well, they havent released something better than Kaveri for 2 years. Kaveri was fine in 2014, not in the end of 2016. And BristolRidge is not going to bring anything more than 10-20% faster graphics, that also is not enough for 1080p gaming. So its only natural people doesnt care that much for APUs today if they dont bring a substantial performance increase over the 2.5 year old Kaveri.
If they would release AM4 + BristolRidge in June 2016 they wouldnt have to worry about people mistake BR with ZEN.
